Kerala University LL.B. and LL.M. Admissions 2017

University of Kerala, one of the first 16 Universities in India, offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in various fields having 150 Govt. run/Private Aided and Private Unaided colleges affiliated to it. 

Kerala University is one of the first universities whichoffers L.L.B, Integrated L.L.B and L.L.M. courses. While the candidate can complete the L.L.B course within a period of 3 years, the Integrated L.L.B. and LL.M. course have the duration of 5 years and 2 years respectively.

Admission of candidates to the above mentioned courses will be done on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Exam. Those seeking admission can register themselves by submitting the online application form, along with the required processing fee.

Eligibility Criteria

LLB & LLM

The following section contains information regarding eligibility criteria for different courses offered by Kerala University.

LLB

For LLB, you require 45% marks in your Bachelor’s degree

For LLB Integrated course, you require 10+2 with minimum marks of 45% and you should be more than 17 years of age.

For LLM, you should have passed LLB with a minimum score of 50%.

LLB (3 years)

  • Candidate should be a citizen of India and must have graduated in any college of the University of Kerala or an equivalent college.
  • Candidates should have passed their Bachelor’s examination with a minimum of 45%. Although candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe need 40 % score to be eligible to apply for this course.
  • Candidates who are appearing for the final exams of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for this course.

Integrated LLB Program (5 Years)

Candidates who have passed 10+2 with a minimum score of 45% and 40% (in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe) are eligible to apply for this programme if they have completed the age of 17 on December 31, 2015.

LLM

Candidate should have passed L.L.B (either a 3 year course or a 5 year integrated course) with a minimum score of 50% from either the University of Kerala or an equivalent University.

How to Apply

LLB & LLM

  • Candidates must log on to Kerala entrance examinations website to register themselves and generate the application number and password
  • Candidates should log in to apply online and fill the application form with all the relevant information
  • Upon successful submission of completed applications, candidate should take the print out of the application form and Bank Challan to deposit the processing fee
  • Candidate must submit the fee through the Bank Challan at the assigned State Bank of Travancore
  • Along with the printout of the application form, candidate must attach copies of the following documents:
  1. Original challan
  2. Self attested copy of SSLC or any equivalent school records / birth certificate/ other valid document to prove date of birth
  3. True copy of the pass certificate mark list of all parts of the qualifying examination (if passed).
  4. Non Creamy Layer Certificate in support of claim for communal reservation for SEBC in original.
  5. Community Certificate in support of claim for communal reservation for SC/ST in original.
  6. Inter-Caste marriage Certificate, in which one of the parent belongs to SC/ST if applicable (original).
  7. Original certificate in support of special reservation, if applicable (in the prescribed format).
  8. Attested copy of Certificate from the Medical Board for Persons with Disabilities.
  9. Any other documents mentioned in the Notification of the Entrance Examination
  • Candidate should post the application form and the copy of the Bank challan to the following address:

Admission Process

The following section contains information regarding selection process for LL.B./LL.M. offered by Kerala University.

LLB

LL.B. (3 years) / Integrated LL.B. (5 years)

Admission of candidates will be done on the basis of their performance and rank in the Entrance Exam. The entrance exam will be held for a duration of 3 hours and consist of 200 objective type questions based on the following topics:

  • General English (65 Questions)
  • General knowledge and  (65 Questions)
  • Aptitude for legal studies (70 Questions)

For each correct answer, candidate will be awarded 1 mark while one mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer.

  • In case of a tie with respect to the total marks scored in the entrance examination, the candidate who secure higher marks in the part ‘Aptitude for legal Studies’ of the Entrance Examination will be placed higher in the ranking.
  • If the tie still exists, candidate with higher marks in the part ‘English’ of the Entrance Examination will be placed higher in the ranking.
  • If the tie persists, the age of the candidate will be taken into consideration and the elder will be placed higher than the younger candidate.

To qualify for admission to LL.B Course, general category candidates should get at least 10% of total marks in the Entrance Examination. SC/ST candidates should score a minimum of 5% of total marks.

LLM

Admission of candidates will be done on the basis of their performance and rank in the Entrance Exam.The Entrance Examination will consist of two papers, each of 90 minutes duration.

Paper I will be of 100 Marks and shall constitute of the following subjects:

  • Jurisprudence (25 Marks)
  • Constitutional Law (25 Marks)
  • Law of Crimes (25 Marks)
  • Law of Contracts (25 Marks)

Paper II will be of 100 Marks and will constitute of the following subjects at its core:

  • Public International Law (20 Marks)
  • Administrative Law (20 Marks)
  • Law of Property (20 Marks)
  • Company Law (20 Marks)
  • Interpretation  of Statutes (10 Marks)
  • Law of Torts (10 Marks)

Special reservation criteria for 5-year Integrated LL.B. programme:

In addition to the 80 seats in each Govt. Law College, 1 seat each in the four Govt. Law Colleges will be reserved for the following categories

  1. Ex-service men/Children of Ex-Servicemen.
  2. Blind Candidates.
  3. Candidates under Sports quota.
  4. The Ex-Paramilitary personnel/Children of Ex-Paramilitary personnel

Note: One seat in Govt. Law College, Ernakulam will be reserved for a candidate from Lakshadweep
