IGNOU B.Ed, M.Ed Admissions 2017

One of the largest open universities in the world, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers a wide range of academic programmes, both short-term as well as long-term, leading to Undergraduate Degrees, Postgraduate Degrees and Doctoral Degrees. The School of Education (SOE), IGNOU offers Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed) at UG and PG level, respectively, along with several other diploma, certificate, professional courses.

The online admission procedure for B.Ed and M.Ed courses usually commences in the month of May/June and ends in mid-July every year. Candidates will be required to submit the filled-in application form along with the attested copies of documents as specified in Entrance-cum Admission Form. Foreign students residing in India who have valid student visa for the minimum duration of the programme are also eligible for admission to IGNOU programme.   

For admission to B.Ed and M.Ed courses, candidates are shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test, conducted by IGNOU Delhi and usually held in the month of August every year. As for the semester examinations, the University conducts Term-end Examination twice a year in the months of June & December. The University provides reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, non-creamy layer of OBC, War Widows, Kashmiri Migrants and Physically Handicapped learners, as per the Government of India rules, for admission to its various programmes.

Eligibility Criteria

B.Ed

  • Candidates should have obtained at least minimum 50% aggregate of marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/Commerce/Humanity (OR) Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto
  • Candidates must be Trained in-service teachers in elementary education or should have completed a NCTE recognized teacher education programme through face-to-face mode

M.Ed

  • Candidate should possess B.Ed degree with at least 55% aggregate of marks
  • Candidate should have two years’ teaching/professional experience after completion of B.Ed programme in a Government/Government recognized school/NCTE recognized teacher education/research institution in education
  • Only working teachers are eligible for admission to M.Ed programme

Note: Only those candidates whose results are declared and are qualified at the time of submitting the entrance cum application form are eligible.


How to Apply

M.Ed & B.Ed

Candidates will be required to submit the filled-in application form available in the official university brochure along with the attested copies of documents as specified in Entrance-cum Admission Form.

The original documents along with the programme fee should be submitted at the time of admission for verification, upon receiving offer letter for admission.

The programme fee must be paid only by way of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of “IGNOU”, payable at the city where the Regional Centre of the candidate is situated.

Registration Fee For B.Ed courses:

  • Application forms are submitted at the university office counter – Rs.1000/-  
  • Application forms are submitted through post – Rs. 1050/-

Note: Students who are not able to clear their programme within the maximum duration can take re-admission for additional period in continuation of the earlier period


Selection Process

M.Ed & B.Ed

Admission of eligible candidates to B.Ed/ M.Ed programme shall be done Regional Centre-wise/State-wise on the basis of the score obtained in the entrance test, conducted by IGNOU all over India.

The Entrance Test is usually held in the month of August every year. Hall tickets are dispatched to appearing candidates ten days before the Entrance Test. In case of non-receipt of Hall Tickets three days before the date of Entrance Test, candidates can download the same from IGNOU website and report to the Examination Centre for appearing in the Entrance Test.

Result cards for the Entrance tests indicating the qualifying/non qualifying status would be dispatched to all the candidates who appear for the examination.

Note: The final admission to the programme shall be subject to their rank in the merit list in the Entrance Test and production of proof of their eligibility at the time of last date of submission of application along the with original certificates and programme fee.
