Madras University Distance UG & PG Courses Admission 2017

Madras University invites students to join their Distance Learning Programs which are available throughout the year for the Academic Session(June to May) as well as for Calendar Year Session(January to December).

In south India, Madras University’s Institute of Distance Education (UNOM IDE) is very famous for its various UG & PG programmes in distance mode & teaching methodologies. The Institute of Distance Education at present offers 97 Degree Programs: Undergraduate 27, Postgraduate 21, Professional 18, Diploma 21, and Certificate 10. Professional and job oriented programs are now offered in collaboration with the different relevant industries time to time.

Eligibility Criteria

BA , B.Sc & B.Com

Students must have passed 10th Standard and Three Year Diploma Course in Music recognized by the authorities, University of Madras.

Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Tamil Literature) , Bachelor of Animation and Multimedia Technology & Bachelor of Music

Students must have passed 10th Standard and Three Year Diploma Course in Music recognized by the authorities, University of Madras.

BBA/BBM & BCA

The Admission is open to any student who has passed any of the following exams:

  • The Pre-University Examination conducted previously by the University of Madras or any other University accepted as equivalent.
  • The Higher Secondary Examination or equivalent exam will be considered.
  • The Senior School Certificate Examination [XII Standard] conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education in not less than 5 subjects of which ENGLISH shall be one.
  • The Indian School Certificate Examination conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination in not less than 5 subjects of which ENGLISH shall be one.
  • Students must have passed Plus two examinations of the National Open School, New Delhi.
  • Pre-Technical Examination conducted after 11 years of study by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Chennai.
  • Students must have passed Intermediate Examination [2 years] of Andhra Pradesh, Pre-Degree Examination [2 Years] of Kerala and Pre-University Examination [2 Years] of Karnataka under the 10+2 pattern.
  • 12 or 13 years of education in any State in India or Abroad under 11+1 or 10+2 or 11+2 pattern
  •  Two Years Foundation Course Examination of Annamalai and Madurai Kamaraj Universities
  •  Three Year Diploma Examinations conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Chennai
  • Students qualified with G.C.E. [Advanced Level / Principal Level] with not less than 3 subjects in the ‘A’ Level with ENGLISH in the ‘O’ Level / SUBSIDIARY Level.
  • Students must have Diploma in Commercial Practice Certificate or Modern office practice.
  • Students must have Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering.
  • Candidates who have already undergone their First Year and Second Year Undergraduate Degree Courses and passed or discontinued their studies through the Institute of Distance Education.

Master of Arts [MA] (Christian Studies)

Students must have passed B.Th. or B.Ph. or B.A. Christian Studies or B.A. Indian Religion or B.A. Philosophy.

Master of Arts [MA] (Economics)

Students must have passed B.A. Economics or Corporate Secretaryship or B.Sc. Mathematics or Statistics or B.Com. or B.B.A. or B.B.M. or any Undergraduate Social Sciences Degree.

Master of Arts [MA] (English)

Students must have passed B.A. Degree Examination offering English as the Main Subject of study under Part-III Core Course or B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examinations under Part-I [or] Part-II Foundation Courses

Master of Arts [MA] (Hindi)

Students must have passed B.A. Degree Examination offering Hindi as the Main Subject of study under Part-III Core Course or B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examinations under Part-I [or] Part-II Foundation Courses

Master of Arts [MA] (History)

Students must have passed B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. Degree

Master of Arts [MA] (Human Rights and Duties Education)

Students must have passed Bachelor Degree in Arts, Science [or] Commerce

Master of Arts [MA] (Political Science)

Students must have passed B.A. Degree Examination of this University [REGULAR STREAM] with Political Science as the Main Subject of study or in any faculty [viz.] Arts, Science, Commerce, Languages, Law, Engineering

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Counselling Psychology)

Students must have passed B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examination with Psychology as Main Subject.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Information Security and Cyber Forensics)

Degree in Computer Science / Computer Applications, Information Technology / Any other equivalent Degree in Information Technology and Computer Science.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics)

B.Sc. (Regular Stream (10 + 2 + 3) Pattern) Degree Examination in Mathematics or B.Sc. Applied Sciences

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Psychology)

B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examination with Psychology as the Main Subject of study (Regular Stream (10 + 2 + 3) Pattern) or Graduate in any degree.

Master of Music

B. Music [or] B.A. Indian Music [or] B.A. [or] B.Sc. with any subject as one of the main subjects [or] any other Degree.

MCA

B.C.A. / B.E.S. / B.Sc. in Computer Science / Mathematics / Physics / Statistics / Applied Sciences, or B.Com / Bachelor of Bank Management / B.B.A. / B.L.M. / B.A. Corporate Secretaryship / B.A. Economics / any other Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with Business Mathematics and Statistics or Mathematics / Statistics in Main / Allied level, or B.Sc. Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as allied subject, or B.E. / B.Tech / M.B.A., or A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with Mathematics as one of the subject at the Higher Secondary level.

Master of Science [M.Sc.] (Information Technology)

Any Bachelor’s degree of not less than three years duration under 10+2+3 pattern having studied Mathematics or Statistics or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics or Mathematical Physics as Main or Allied subject.


Application Process

BA , B.Sc & BMM

  • The students can collect the prospectus and application form from the Institute / Study Centers / Spot Admission Centers / Participatory Institutions / Twinning Program Centers for Rs. 100, or by post by sending a demand draft of Rs. 150 to The Director, IDE., University of Madras, or through the official website for by paying INR 200 through online payment.
  • Detach the Application Form, Computer Coding Sheet, and Address Slip from the prospectus.
  • The Application form must be accompanied by All the Original Certificates and the Registration Fee of Rs.100/- for UG, Rs.150/- for PG, Rs.400 for M.B.A. (Executive), and Rs. 1000 for Professional courses.
  • After filling the form carefully, students have to send the form along with the original certificated mentioned below:
  1. Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the applicant last studied
  2. Statement of Marks of the Qualifying examination
  3. Provisional Pass Certificate / Diploma Certificate
  4. Authenticated translation in English duly attested by a Gazetted Officer, if certificates are in a language other than ENGLISH / TAMIL
  5. Equivalence Certificate” issued by the Association of Indian Universities, for students who studied abroad
  6. One photograph each on  Application Form, Address Slip, and reverse side of the Coding Sheet

Admission Process

Selection will be done on first cum first serve basis with respect to the number of available seats. 

Admission centre has been set up by the Madras University at Institute of Distance Education (IDE) Building Chepauk. Students have to follow these steps to get admission.

  1. First of all you have to apply for distance courses through any of the three modes as mentioned in the application process.
  2. After submission of the application form, you can collect the token from admission desk.
  3. After that you have to submit the attested photocopies of marks sheet & original documents for verification. After verification originals will be returned to the student.
  4. Once your documents will be cross checked, a provisional admission letter will be issued.
  5. After obtaining the provisional letter, you have to visit to any branch of Indian Overseas Bank (OBC) or Indian Bank for submission of the balance fee.

You need to download the application form, fill all the required information & submit it online. Students can also visit to the spot centres located all over India for spot admissions.

Scholarships Available:

SC/ST students are eligible for reimbursement of fees and annual allowance of Rs. 500 for books.

Visually impaired or otherwise physically challenged candidates can avail themselves of the State Government Scholarship for the Disabled.

Notes:

  • All the courses of the Institute are offered to the residents of India and also to foreign countries as per the discretion of the authorities
  • Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right and the Institute reserves the right of admission
  • The admission of the defaulters will automatically stand cancelled. They may, however, be readmitted to the same course on payment of  Rs. 500/- subject to approval by the authorities
  • Candidates are not permitted to remit the fees in installments.
