Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (AVV) is a well-known university established to provide higher education in the areas of Engineering, Medicine, Management, Science, Education, Mass Communication and Social Work. The AVV University has five campuses at Amritapuri (Kollam), Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Mysore and around 15000 students studying in various disciplines.

Amrita School of Communication (ASCOM) which is a part of AVV University, Coimbatore campus conducts a Communication Aptitude Test (CAP Test) every year at the for its B.A Mass Communication programme, M.A Communication programme and Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (PGDJ) offered at its Ettimadai (Coimbatore) campus.

CAP Test is the communication aptitude test which is designed to address students from distinctive backgrounds based on their interest, aptitude and potential for adapting to a professional communication course. The main topics covered in CAP test are Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning and English Grammar.

Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Mass Communication)

Duration:

  • Full time: Min-3 years, Max-6 years
  • Part time: 3 years, Max-6 years

B.A with specialization in Mass Communication covers study and knowledge about print media, broadcasting, film production, public relations and advertising.

Eligibility:

  • Student must pass out 10+2 or equivalent examination with an aggregate minimum of 50% marks from a recognized university or board.
  • Candidate from the foreign universities should obtain an Equivalence Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Visit www.aiuweb.org (link is external), for applying online for Equivalence Certificate.
  • Student must clear Communication Aptitude Test - CAPTEST (Entrance Exam)

Master of Arts [MA] (Mass Communication)

Duration:

Full time: Min-2 years, Max-3 years

  • Part time: 2 years, Max-3 years

The Master of Arts with specialization in Communication focuses on practice and application of advance communication technologies.

Eligibility:

  • Student must pass out bachelor’s degree or equivalent examination with an aggregate minimum of 50% marks from a recognized university or board.

  • Prior industry experience will be added as plus point to the admission.
  • Student must clear Communication Aptitude Test - CAPTEST (Entrance Exam)

Ph.D. (Mass Communication)

Duration:

  • Full time: Min-3 years, Max-6 years
  • Part time: 4 years, Max-7 years

The Ph. D. in Communication Studies provide deep knowledge and research in media industry including print media, broadcast media, new media, film studies.

Eligilility:

  • The student must pass out Master’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized University/ Institution with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Student must clear Graduate Aptitude Testssuch as GATE or GRE.

Important Note:

  • Students scoring more than 70% aggregate marks during the first two years of their degree are exempted from appearing for the CAPTEST.
  • Students having awaited results for 10+2 can apply for CAP Test on the basis of 11th Mark sheets. And later on at the time of joining, they have to produce their 12th results.


Application Process

Online Mode:

  • First you have to log in to the official website of Amrita University and navigate to the admission link then click on Apply online link.
  • Fill the necessary details in online form for example name, date of birth, contact number, e-mail ID, temporary address and permanent address.
  • Attach your necessary documents like ID proof, address proof and certificate of graduation. After this your authorized login-ID & password will be created.
  • Select the appropriate campus and college name.
  • Application fee of INR 500/- can be submitted online through credit card/debit card and net banking of all banks.

Offline Mode

Students can download physical form from the official website of the AVV University and can submit duly filled and signed form along with the demand draft of INR 500/- in favor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham” payable at:

Admission Process

Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Mass Communication) , Master of Arts [MA] (Mass Communication) & Ph.D. (Mass Communication)

  • Selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in CAP Test conducted at AVV University and GATE entrance test in case of Ph.D.
  • Students who have cleared entrance examination will be shortlisted for group discussion on the basis of marks scored.
  • After that they will be called for personal interview on the basis of which personal abilities and skills will be assessed and mapped out.

Important Note:

In some special cases, AVV University has an arrangement of SKYPEevaluation process subject to the discretion of the department. In such cases, candidate is advised to attach a request letter (mentioning their SKYPE ID) to the admissions coordinator.
