Kerala University of Fisheries (KUFOS) PG Admissions 2018

Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) is the first university in India exclusively dedicated to studies in fisheries and allied disciplines. The university offers the following Post-Graduate (PG), PG Diploma and Doctoral programmes to its students every year:

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.)
  • Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.)
  • Master of Technology (M.Tech.)
  • L.L.M. in Maritime Law (Evening Course)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
  • P.G. Diploma
  • Diploma

Only candidates with the relevant qualifying degree can register for the above mentioned PG/ PG Diploma/ Ph.D. programmes. Eligible candidates can apply for the programme by downloading the prescribed application form and challan through the official university website. 

Candidates can submit the prescribed application fee through the downloaded challan at any branch of State Bank of Travancore. To register successfully for any of the above mentioned programmes, duly filled-in applications along with the challan receipt should reach the university office before March 31, 2018.

The following section contains detailed eligibility criteria for different programmes offered by KUFOS.

M.Sc

Master in Science (M.Sc.) – 2 years

M.Sc.  Physical Oceanography and Ocean Modelling – 10 seats

Candidate should possess B.Sc. degree with 50% aggregate or 5.5/10.0 or 2.2/4.0 marks in any of the following subject combinations:

  1. Physics main with Mathematics and Chemistry as subsidiaries
  2. Physics main with Mathematics and Statistics as Subsidiaries
  3. Physics main with Mathematics and Computer Science/Computer applications as subsidiaries.
  4. Physics main with Mathematics and Electronics as Subsidiaries
  5. Physics main with Mathematics and Geography as subsidiaries
  6. Mathematics main with Physics and Statistics as subsidiaries
  7. Mathematics main with Physics and Computer Science / Computer Applications as       subsidiaries.
  8. All three main with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry

M.Sc. Biological Oceanography and Biodiversity – 25 seats

Candidate should possess B.Sc. degree with 50% aggregate or 6.5/10.0 or 2.2/4.0 marks in any of the following subject combinations:

M.Sc. Applied Geo Sciences – 10 seats

Candidate should possess a University degree with 50% or 6.5/10.00 or 2.2/4.0 marks in any of the following subject combinations:

Degree in Geology/ Geophysics/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Environmental Sciences with Geology or GIS/ Degree in Electronics/ Civil Engineering/ Coastal Engineering/ Degree in Nautical Sciences

M.Sc. Statistics – 10 seats

Candidate should possess Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics / Statistics as main subject with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) or equivalent OGPA

M.Sc. Ocean Remote Sensing and GIS – 10 seats

Candidate should possess a University degree with 50% or 5.5/10.00 or 2.2/4.0 marks in any of the following subject combinations:

Degree in Physics/ Geophysics / Geology /Mathematics/ Environmental Sciences with GIS /BE/ B.Tech in Civil Engineering/   Natural Sciences/Fishery and life Sciences 

Graduates with (10+2 level Mathematics and Physics) /Biology/B.Sc Environmental Sciences/B.Sc Natural Sciences can also be considered for admission

M.Sc. Food Science and Technology – 15 seats

Candidate should possess a Science degree with 50% marks or 5.5/10.0 OGPA or 2.2/4.0 OGPA in any of the following subject combinations:

  1. B.Sc (food science and /or technology) 
  2. B.Sc (Food Engineering)            
  3. B.F.Sc.            
  4. B.Sc. (Agriculture/ Horticulture/other allied agricultural sciences)            
  5. B.V.Sc

M.Sc. Disaster Management - 10 seats

Candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Science or B.Tech./BE Degree of any discipline with 50% marks or equivalent OGPA.

M.Sc. Biotechnology and Bio-informatics – 15 seats

Candidate should possess a Science degree with 50% marks or 5.5/10.0 OGPA or 2.2/4.0 OGPA (50% for SC/ST candidates) in any of the following subject combinations: 

  1. B.Sc Life Science
  2. B.Sc. (Biotechnology)      
  3. B.Sc. (Microbiology)

M.Sc. Climate Science – 10 seats

Candidate should possess University degree with 50% or 5.5/10.00 or 2.2/4.0 marks in BSc. Physics/Maths

M.Sc. Marine Microbiology and Marine Drugs – 15 seats

Candidate should possess Science degree with 50% marks or 5.5/10.0 OGPA or 2.2/4.0 OGPA (50% for SC/ST candidates) in any of the following subject combinations:                

  1. B.Sc. (Biotechnology/Microbiology)
  2. B.Sc. (Food Science & Technology) 
  3. B.Sc. (Chemistry/Zoology/Botony/Biochemistry/Life Science)
  4. B.Sc. (Aquaculture/Fisheries Science)
  5. B.F.Sc.         

M.Sc. Marine Chemistry

Candidate should possess a Science graduate with Chemistry either as main or subsidiary. 

MBA/PGDM

Master in Business Administration (M.B.A.) – 2 years

M.B.A. with Specialization in Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Rural Management and Fisheries Business Management – 35 seats in each discipline

Candidate should be Graduate/Post Graduates in Science, Arts, Commerce or professional graduates from Indian/Foreign Universities recognized by AICTE/UGC/KUFOS with at least 55% marks in aggregate in optional subjects under the system (10+2+3). For SC /ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% in the minimum required aggregate

All professional graduates of State Agricultural Universities/Deemed Universities under the ICAR system with a minimum OGPA of 6.0/10.0 (5.5/10.0 for SC /ST Candidates).

M.B.A. in Energy Management – 20 seats

Candidate should have passed B.Tech./B.E. examination with at least 50% marks in aggregate preferably in Mechanical / Chemical / Electrical / Electronics / Petroleum / Automobile / Marine Engineering / Polymer Technology / Production and Industrial Engineering.

ME/M.Tech

Master of Technology (M.Tech.) – 2 years

M.Tech. in Integrated Coastal Zone Management – 6 seats

Candidate should possess B.Tech/BE degree in Integrated Coastal Zone management/ Civil Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Environmental Engineering/ Harbour Engineering/ Coastal Engineering. Candidate must have secured at least 50% aggregate in his/her qualifying degree.  

Law graduates, M.Sc., in Marine geology/Geo Science, Geo Physics, Marine biology and Oceanography, B.F.Sc. are also eligible to apply for M.Tech. programme

M.Tech. in Ocean and Coastal Safety Engineering – 10 seats

Candidate should possess a B.Tech. degree in Marine Engineering / Civil / Mechanical / Safety & Fire / EEE / Naval Arch.

Candidate should have obtained 60% aggregate preferably with GATE/NET  

M.Tech. in Coastal and Harbour Engineering – 10 seats

Candidate should possess a B.Tech. degree in Civil / Mechanical / Marine / Naval Arch. 

Candidate should have obtained 60% aggregate preferably with GATE/NET

M.Tech. in Fisheries Engineering – 6 seats  

Candidate should possess B.F.Sc. degree or B.E./B.Tech. degree in Mechanical / Civil / Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering

LLM

Master of Law (LL.M.)

LL.M. in Maritime Law (Evening Course) – 10 seats

Candidates should have passed the LL.B. Degree Examination of any University in the State of Kerala or of any other University recognized as equivalent there to with 55% marks in the aggregate (50% for SC/ST Students). 

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Doctoral degree programmes leading to Ph.D. are being offered by the following 5 faculties of KUFOS:

  1. Faculties of Fisheries
  2. Faculty of Ocean Studies and Technology
  3. Faculty of Ocean Engineering
  4. Faculty of Climate Variability and Aquatic Ecosystem
  5. Faculty of Management, Humanities and Social Sciences

Eligibility:

General stream: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination, or a minimum CGPA of 5.0/10. For SC/ST candidates, a relaxation of 10% marks in the minimum eligibility marks is applicable. 

ICAR stream: Candidate should possess Master’s degree (M.F.Sc.) in the respective discipline / related discipline with an OGPA of 7.0/10 or equivalent percentage of marks. For SC/ST candidates, an OGPA of 6.5/10 or equivalent percentage of marks at Master’s degree is sufficient. 

PG Diploma in Science & PG Diploma in Law

P.G. Diploma – 1 year

PG Diploma in Aquarium Science and Technology – 20 seats

Candidate should possess graduate degree in any science discipline. 

PG Diploma in Industrial Aquaculture – 20 seats

Candidate should possess B.Sc. degree any Biological subjects including Botony, Zoology, Fisheries, Biotechnology etc.

PG Diploma in Maritime Law (Evening Course) 

Candidate should have passed the L.L.B. Degree Examination of any University in the state of Kerala or of any other University recognised as equivalent thereto.

Diploma in Science

Diploma in Brackish Water and Marine Aquaculture – 20 seats

Candidate should have passed 10+2 or VHSE with Biology as one of the subject.

Master of Fisheries Science [MFSc] (Aquatic Environment Management) , Master of Fisheries Science [MFSc] (Aquaculture) & Master of Fisheries Science [MFSc] (Aquatic Animal Health Management)

Candidate should possess minimum OGPA of 6.5/10.0 in his/her Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science recognized by Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies. For SC/ST candidates, an OGPA of 5.5/10.0 is sufficient

Diploma in Brackish Water and Marine Aquaculture , M.Sc & MBA/PGDM

Candidates seeking admission to PG/ PG Diploma/ Ph.D. programmes can download the application form available at the official university website.

Along with the application form, candidate should also download the Challan and pay the required application fee through it in favour of “The Finance Officer, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Panangad” and payable at SBT Vyttila.

  • Application fee for General candidates: INR 1000             
  • Application fee for SC/ST candidates (native of Kerala only): INR 500

Enclosures:

Along with duly filled-in applications, candidate should attach the following supporting documents:

  1. Community Certificate obtained from a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Village Officer (in case of SC/ST candidates)
  2. No Objection Certificate and experience certificate obtained from the controlling officer concerned (in the case of in-service candidates)
  3. Self-attested copies of certificates in proof of age, qualifications, mark list of qualifying examination, experience, sports activities and nativity certificate (in case of candidates from outside Kerala)

Note: The originals of all the relevant certificates and documents should be produced at the time of interview/ admission to the programme. 


Admission/ Selection Process

The following section contains information about the selection procedure for different programmes offered by KUFOS.

M.Sc

Candidates will be admitted to the M.Sc. programme through common entrance examination (CEE) and interview conducted by KUFOS.

MBA/PGDM

Selection of the candidate to the MBA programme will be based on the performance of the candidate in the qualifying degree (30%), MAT/CAT/CMAT/KUFOS MAT entrance examination (50%), Group Discussion (10%) and Interview (10%).

ME/M.Tech

Candidates will be admitted to the programme through common entrance examination (CEE) and interview conducted by KUFOS.

LLM

Admission to the course shall be made only on the basis of an Entrance Test. The test shall be of 2 hour duration and consist of 100 objective type questions, carrying one mark each.

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

Candidate will be selected for admission to Ph.D. Programme on the basis of their performance in School Admission Test (SAT) and Interview conducted by KUFOS.

The following candidates are exempted from SAT: 

  • Candidates who possess National / Kerala State research fellowships with valid score, with committed financial assistance at the time of seeking admission, in any of the National / State level eligibility tests conducted by the agencies or by industries recognized by the University for the purpose. 
  • Candidates who have qualified UGC/NET Lectureship examination or GATE/ICAR/KSCSTE /CSIR/ NBHM/ICSSR. 
  • Candidates who have been awarded research fellowships by the Government of India for pursuing a Ph.D. program in India. 
  • Foreign students who have been sponsored under a scholarship scheme by the Government of India for pursuing the Ph.D. Program in India. 
  • Teachers of Universities / Aided Colleges in Kerala, teachers who are working in Government institutions / Quasi Government recognized by KUFOS and Scientists in National Level Research Laboratories, with a minimum continuous service of five years as permanent employees.

PG Diploma in Science & PG Diploma in Law

Candidates will be selected on the basis of qualifying marks and the marks obtained in the interview.

Diploma in Science

Selection of the candidate will be done on the basis of his/her performance in qualifying examination.


Reservation Criteria

The reservation norms prescribed by the Government of Kerala will be applicable for admission to all courses offered by KUFOS. List of communities to be considered under the SC/ST category will be as per the list approved by the Govt. of Kerala.
