Anna University M. Tech. Admissions 2017

Anna University is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. It was accredited with a five-star status by the UGC in 2012. The main university campus is located in Guindy, Chennai. The university offers 31 undergraduate, 64 post-graduate and 3 research courses in various disciplines.

Anna University conducts the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) exam for the admissions to the PG programmes including M.E/M. Tech. in the various colleges of Tamil Nadu. The entrance test is usually conducted in May every year with the registration process beginning in April.

Candidates who have cleared the GATE exam in the same year will be exempted from appearing in the TANCET exam. You may also check the complete selection procedure for more.

Merit list for admission will be prepared based on the marks obtained and rank secured in the TANCET exam or the GATE score.

Last Date for Application for TANCET 2017 is April 22, 2017 (tentative) and the Exam Date for TANCET is  May 16, 2017 (tentative).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (M. TECH.)

  • Candidate must have a recognised Bachelor’s degree B.E. / B. Tech. with minimum 50% marks (45 % in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidate must have appeared for TANCET exam conducted by Anna University.
  • GATE 2016 qualified candidates in Engineering / Technology are exempted from TANCET 2016 exam though candidates who have a valid GATE 2016 score in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers should appear for TANCET 2016 also.


Application Process

ME/M.Tech

Candidates can apply online or offline, briefing for both the methods is mentioned below:

Online Method:

  • Candidates can visit official website of Anna University i.e. https://www.annauniv.edu  in order to download the application the form.
  • Candidates are then required to click on TANCET 2015 and Online application form.
  • Candidates will receive a unique registration number and password.
  • Fill in the required details in the form.
  • Upload a photograph and take the printout of the Application Form after submission
  • Send the hard copy along with the required documents and the Demand Draft.

Offline Method:

  • Candidates can obtain the Application form from the specified Co-ordinating Centres**, by submitting a copy of the required documents.
  • The TANCET 2016 Application Fees must be paid in cash or Demand Draft.
  • Candidates are issued the TANCET hall ticket if their Registration is successful and their TANCET application is in order.

NOTE:Demand Draft of Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates) should be in favour of ‘The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University,’ payable at Chennai, obtained from any Nationalised bank.

  • Attested copies of certificates pertaining to age, educational qualifications and community certificates.


Selection Process

ME/M.Tech

Selection is done on the basis of any one of the following:

  • Candidates having a valid TANCET Score are selected for admission to M. Tech/M.E.
  • If candidates have the required GATE score with qualifying marks for Assistant-ship in the appropriate discipline of engineering, they are admitted to M. Tech./M.E programmes.
  • A limited number of seats are available for the candidates (Sponsored candidates) working in government organizations, government aided learning institutes.
  • The selection of candidates will be through counselling, following the rules of reservation of Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • If two or more candidates achieve same marks in the qualifying examination, preference will be given to those candidates who have passed the all the subjects in pre final /Semester/ Year and have higher average percentage of marks up to pre final/Semester/Year of the qualifying exam.

TANCET Exam Pattern

  • The question paper will have three parts with Part 1 & 2 being compulsory and Part 3 as per the discipline chosen by the candidates while filling the TANCET Application Form.
  • The questions will be set at undergraduate level.
  • Part 1 & 2 will have 30 questions with 1 mark for each correct answer
  • Part 3: Candidates must answer 40 Questions in the chosen field with 1 mark for each correct answer
  • Negative marking of 1/3 for every wrong answer.

 

TANCET Counselling Process 

  • The counselling and Admissions is held through a separate process.
  • Candidates who have qualified in GATE or TANCET will be required to apply separately for TANCA. (Score is valid for the current year only)
  • Separate Rank Lists will be prepared for the candidates on the basis of the entrance exam – GATE or TANCET
  • Seat allotment is on the basis of the rank of the candidate and the options entered by candidates.
