Mumbai University BE/B.Tech and B.Arch. Admissions 2017

Mumbai University (MU) is the oldest University which was established in 1857 and located at Mumbai, Maharashtra and one of the first three universities in India.  Several private colleges in and around Mumbai are affiliated to MU. It has established its name in industrial & International collaborations and runs various professional courses. At national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and out-reach activities. The University was accorded 5 star status in 2001 & 'A' grade status in April 2012 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has been granted University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) status by UGC and PURSE Scheme by DST.

In the last five years it has seen 104% increase in under-graduate students. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of students. More than eighty of its teachers are on various professional bodies. Moreover, eighteen National/International awards have been won by the teachers in the last five years. The University also maintains a faculty-student ratio of 1:15.

Faculty of Engineering, Mumbai University offers the following programmes: the B.E. (Full Time), B.E. (Part Time), B. Tech., B. Chem. Tech., B. Chem. Engineering Programmes. The B.E. (Part Time) Programme is for a duration of two years and the remaining Engineering programmes are 4-year i.e., 8 semester programmes. The B. Arch Programme is a 5-year programme and is offered by the various affiliated colleges of Mumbai University.

The University invites applications for admission to the above mentioned programmes for the academic year 2017-18. The admission to the engineering programmes is through the Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) 2017 to be held on May 5th, 2017 (tentative). While the admission to B.Arch. Programme is through the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) 2017 to be held on various dates.

Eligibility Criteria

BE/B.Tech & B.Arch

For Biomedical Engineering / Bio-Tech Engineering: You must have passed subject of Biology at the qualifying examination, in addition to fulfilling the above criteria.

For all courses except Biomedical Engineering / Bio-Tech Engineering:

  • You should have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate, HSC (Class 12th) examination of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or CBSE (Std. 12) examination or any other equivalent examination of a Council, Board or University outside the state of Maharashtra with subjects English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a minimum of 45 % marks for general category and minimum 40 % marks for Backward class categories (belonging only to Maharashtra State) in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics added together

For admission directly to Sem- III of Second year engineering course:​

  • You should have passed Post-SSC or Post-HSC Diploma Course in Engineering / Technology with at least 50% marks and 45% marks in case of backward class categories (belonging only to Maharashtra State) in appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology from an AICTE approved Institution with English as the medium of instruction at Diploma level.
  • You should have passed B.Sc. Degree from a UGC / Association of Indian Universities recognized University with at least 50% marks and 45% marks in case of backward class categories (belonging only to Maharashtra State) and passed Class 12th examination with Mathematics as the subject and with English as the medium of instruction at B.Sc. level.
  • You should have passed the Diploma course in Engineering / Technology with minimum of 50 % marks and medium of instruction as English from the Polytechnics affiliated to MSBTE or AICTE approved autonomous Polytechnics in Maharashtra State ( for Maharashtra State Candidates) or such polytechnics situated inside / outside the State of Maharashtra ( for Outside Maharashtra State Candidates).

How to apply?


For all courses:

Step 1: You should register for MHT-CET online on the official website. You will find the Application under the “MHT-CET-2017 Registration” link.

Step 2: You should fill in the Application form with the personal details with a valid email id, mobile No. and a password on the first login.

Step 3: You should upload a recent colour passport size photograph and signature in JPEG format only. The file size of each of them should not be more than 50 KB per file. The file name of Photograph and signature should preferably be photo.jpeg and sign.jpeg respectively. The picture should be taken against a light/white background. The signature should be on a white paper with a black ink pen. Scan the signature in 200 dpi (dots per inch) scanner resolution settings.

Step 4: You must then download and print the MHT-CET bank challan on an A4 size paper on a single page. Make the payment through the Bank Challan from any branch of SBI Bank for:

  • Rs 800.00 + Rs 60.00 Bank Commission - Open Candidates
  • Rs 600.00 + Rs 60.00 Bank Commission - Reservation Category Candidates

Step 5: You should log in to MHT-CET-2017 registration using your MHT-CET-2017 Registration No and password after 24 hours of making the payment and confirm if the Bank transaction ID No. and date of payment have been updated. This completes the registration process. You should take a print out of the Registration Confirmation page.



You should register on the NATA website with a valid email ID. Appointments for the exam are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. You should register well in advance to get your preferred test date.

You should then fill the form with the required personal and educational details.

Application Fee: You should pay the Application fee of Rs. 1250 either through credit card / debit card / net banking or you can generate the challan for depositing the payment through cash in any of the branches of the ICICI Bank all over India.

You shall be required to pay additional charges as “processing charges” for the following:- 

  • Domestic Credit Card:- 1.25% of the NATA Fee plus service tax as applicable
  • Domestic Debit Card:- 0.75% of the NATA Fees plus service tax as applicable
  • Domestic Multiple Bank Net Banking Payment Gateway:- Rs.15 per transaction
  • Collection through PAN India ICICI Branches in cash (through challan) :- Rs.30 per transaction

You should select your preferred test centre from the given list.

You must then submit the Application online only. Your registration is now complete.

Selection Process


Your selection will be on the basis of MHT – CET 2017 Examination. The MHT-CET-2017 for engineering admissions will consist of two question papers (Paper 1 and Paper 3). Each paper is of 100 marks and one and a half hours duration. The questions will be multiple choice type and all questions have to be answered.

Paper 1 consists of Physics and Chemistry with 50 questions each carrying one marks for every correct answer. Paper 3 comprises of Mathematics with 50 questions with 2 marks for every correct answer. There shall be no negative marking for wrong answers. The syllabus for every subject will be the same as for the current year for HSC Examination (i.e., March 2017) of HSC Board of Maharashtra.


You will be selected on the basis of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) 2017 conducted by the Council of Architecture. You must be able to secure 40% score in NATA, i.e. at least 80/200.

The test is in two parts, a paper based drawing test and computer based online aesthetic sensitivity test. The test measures your aptitude through two sections - a paper based section for drawing and computer based section for aesthetic sensitivity.

Drawing Section: This is a two hour paper where you have to attempt three questions. The primary emphasis in scoring the drawing section is on your drawing, imagination and observation skills. Your sense of proportion & perspective is also evaluated together with sense for colour and composition.

Aesthetic Sensitivity Test: This is computer based test where you have to answer 40 multiple choice questions. The aesthetic sensitivity test measures perception, imagination and observation, creativity and communication along with architectural awareness

Reservation Criteria

The reservation criteria will be as per the norms prescribed by the Government of Maharashtra.

Hi Avinash, you can get admission in this college for which you have to fill the application form. The application procedure had begun from 03 March 2017 and will end on 28 March 2017.  As you have not mentioned the course in which you wants to get admission, you can check the eligibility and admission procedure for all the courses provided by this university  by the given link
