TANUVAS PG Admission 2017

Established by the government of Tamil nadu in 1989, Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) was the first veterinary and animal sciences university to be established in Asia. Realizing the importance of education research in animal and fisheries sciences, the university thrives to increase its productivity towards better income generation for the resource poor farmer by offering undergraduate, post graduate as well as doctoral programmes to its students. 

The university has 6 constituent colleges which offer the following Masters and Doctoral programmes every year:

  • Master in Veterinary Sciences (M.V.Sc.)
  • Master in Technology (M.Tech. in Food Technology)
  • Master in Business Management (MBA in Food & Livestock Business Management)
  • Master in Science (M.Sc. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics)
  • Doctor in Philosophy (Ph.D. in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Food Technology)
  • Master in Philosophy (M.Phil. in Biotechnology)

Only candidates with the relevant qualifying degree can register for admission to the postgraduate and research programmes through online application process available at the official university website. Selection of candidates for these programmes will be done on the basis of qualifying degree examination as well as Common Entrance Examination (CEE), which will be conducted by the university on September 1, 2017 (tentative).

Upon submitting completed applications along with the prescribed application fee and supporting documents on or before August 12, 2017 (tentative), the applicants can appear for Common Entrance Examination (CEE).

Eligibility

The following section contains detailed information about eligibility for different programmes offered by TANUVAS.

MVSc

M.V.Sc. in 22 disciplines
 
  • Candidates should possess a BVSc / BVSc & Animal Husbandry degree of TANUVAS or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto            
  • Candidates should have completed their degree from colleges recognized by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) with a minimum of 55% marks. For candidates belonging to SC/ST category, a minimum pass is sufficient
  • Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester pattern alone are also eligible to apply

ME/M.Tech

M.Tech. in Food Technology

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of 55% marks in B.Tech. (Food Processing Technology / Food Technology) degree of TANUVAS (or) a 4-year degree programme in equivalent Engineering or Technology course from a recognized University. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient
  • Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester pattern alone are also eligible to apply

M.Sc

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics

Duration of the Programme: 2 years

  • The candidate should possess a BVSc, BVSc & AH, MBBS, BDS, or BSc degree in any branch of Agriculture/Life Sciences/Genetics/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Microbiology/ Pharmacology from a recognized university
  • The candidate should possess an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or 50% in conventional system in the qualifying degree. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient

M.Sc. in Biostatistics

Duration of the Programme: 2 years

  • The candidate should possess a BSc(Ag) / BSc(Hort) / BTech(FPT) / BTech(Dairy Tech) or any degree in life/biological sciences
  • The candidate should possess an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or 50% in conventional system in the qualifying degree examination. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient

MBA/PGDM

MBA in Food and Livestock Business Management

Duration of the Programme: 2 years

  • Candidates should possess a BVSc, BVSc & AH, B.Tech (Food Technology / Dairy Technology / Poultry Technology), BFSc, BSc (Ag/Hort), B.Tech (Food Engineering / Agri. Engineering)
  • Graduates of State Veterinary Universities / Agricultural Universities / Deemed Universities under ICAR system with a minimum of 6.00/10.00 or equivalent percentage are also eligible to apply

Ph.D in Veterinary Science

  • Candidates should have secured an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 under semester system or 65% marks in the masters degree alone. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient
  • Candidates should possess a BVSc & AH degree and masters degree in the relevant field of specialization from a recognised University are eligible to apply for the 20 disciplines of the PhD programme in Veterinary & Animal Sciences (Except Animal Biotechnology and Livestock Products Technology) 

For Ph.D. in Animal Biotechnology, candidates must possess MVSc degree in any field of specialization (except Animal Husbandry Economics, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension and Animal Husbandry Statistics) or M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology with basic BVSc & AH degree recognised as equivalent thereto.

For Ph.D. in Livestock Products Technology, candidates should possess MVSc degree in Dairy Science (or) Meat Science and Technology (or) Livestock Products Technology with a basic BVSc & AH degree recognised as equivalent thereto

For Ph.D. in Food Technology, candidates with M.Sc. in Food Technology, Food Science and Technology, Post-Harvest Technology, Food Processing Technology, Food Process Engineering, Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Biochemistry/Food Chemistry are eligible to apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering

M.Phil in Biotechnology

Duration of the Programme: 1 year

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent OGPA in their Masters degree in the relevant field from a recognised university. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.
 


How to Apply

ME/M.Tech , M.Sc & MBA/PGDM

Candidate can download the prospectus along with the application form, available on the official university website

Candidates are requested to fill-in all the relevant details in the application form and affix their recent passport size photograph in both, the application form as well as hall ticket

A registration fee of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST candidates) should also be sent along with completed applications. The fee should be sent in the form of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of “Finance Officer, TANUVAS, Chennai-51”, payable at Chennai

Completed applications, along with the supporting documents and registration fee should be delivered by August 12, 2017 (tentative) to the following address:

  • The following supporting documents should be attached along with the completed applications:
    1. Nativity Certificate in the prescribed format (if applicable).
    2. Attested copy of the SSLC / HSC mark sheet or First page of Service Register in proof of date of birth.
    3. Attested copy of the Community Certificate.
    4. Attested copy of the Provisional / Degree Certificate of Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree.
    5. Attested copies of Statement of Marks / Report cards / Transcript card showing the details of courses underwent and the marks/OGPA obtained in the degree course concerned.
    6. Attested copy of the conduct certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
    7. Duly filled hall ticket 
    8. Attested copy of the Service Certificate showing the details of service / experience.
    9. Copies of Research article, Popular article, Book, Manual, Booklet published, Proof for Medals / Awards etc., (for PhD, MSc, MPhil candidates only) need to be enclosed.
  • The following original documents should be presented at the time of counselling for admission:

    2. Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate
    3. Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied

Admission Process

The following section contains detailed selection process for different programmes offered by TANUVAS.

MVSc

Candidates will be selected for admission on the basis of the marks obtained in the CEE(50%) and the qualifying degree examination (50%)

In case of equal total marks, ranking will be done on the basis of marks scored in the Common Entrance Examination alone. In case of further tie, the date of birth of candidates will be considered and older candidate shall be given priority over the younger candidate 

Common Entrance Examination Details: The examination for M.V.Sc admission will be of undergraduate level and consist of 200 objective type questions. Each question will carry 0.5 mark and the examination will be of 3 hours duration.

Counselling Procedure: The eligible candidates will be called for counselling as per the merit list. Minimum required aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counselling is:-

  • For General candidates: 50%
  • For SC/ST candidates: 40%

ME/M.Tech

Candidates will be selected for admission on the basis of the marks obtained in the CEE (50%) and the marks obtained in the qualifying degree examination (50%)

In case of equal total marks, ranking will be done on the basis of marks scored in the Common Entrance Examination alone. In case of further tie, the date of birth of candidates will be considered and older candidate shall be given priority over the younger candidate 

Common Entrance Examination: The examination for M.Tech admission will be of undergraduate level and consist of 200 objective type questions. Each question will carry 0.5 mark and the examination will be of 3 hours duration.

Counselling Procedure: The eligible candidates will be called for counselling as per the merit list. Minimum required aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counselling is:-

  • For General candidates: 50%
  • For SC/ST candidates: 40%

M.Sc

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics

Candidates will be selected for M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) programme on the basis of marks obtained in CEE and the qualifying degree examination.

Common Entrance Examination: The examination will comprise of 75 objective type questions covering the broad areas of Molecular Genetics, Microbiology, Cell Biology and Biotechnology etc. Each question will carry 1 mark and the exam duration will be 1½ hours.

Counselling Procedure: The eligible candidates will be called for counselling as per the merit list. Minimum required aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counselling is:-

  • For General candidates: 40%
  • For SC/ST candidates: 35%

M.Sc. in Biostatistics

Candidates will be selected for M.Sc. (Biostatistics) programme on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination and the qualifying degree examinations.

Common Entrance Examination: The entrance examination will comprise of 75 objective type questions covering the broad areas of Descriptive Statistics, Probability theory, Sampling techniques etc. Each question will carry 1 mark and the time duration for the exam will be 1½ hours.

Counselling Procedure: The eligible candidates will be called for counselling as per the merit list. Minimum required aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counselling is:-

  • For General candidates: 40%
  • For SC/ST candidates: 35%

MBA/PGDM

MBA in Food and Livestock Business Management

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in Entrance Test, GroupDiscussion and Personal Interview.

Ph.D in Veterinary Science

Candidates will be selected for the programme as per the following qualifying components:

Common Entrance Examination:

  • Examination will be conducted in the concerned subject studied at masters degree level. It will consist of 75 objective type questions and each question will carry 1 mark. The duration of the exam will be 1 ½ hours
  • The candidates qualified for Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR are exempted from appearing for entrance examination

Counselling Procedure: The eligible candidates will be called for counselling as per the merit list. Minimum required aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counselling is:-

  • For General candidates: 50%
  • For SC/ST candidates: 40%

M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering

Candidates will be selected for M.Phil degree programme as per the qualifying components listed below:

Common Entrance Examination: The examination will comprise of 75 objective type questions covering the broad areas of Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology etc. Each question will carry 1 mark and the time duration for the exam will be 1½ hours.

Counselling Procedure: The eligible candidates will be called for counselling as per the merit list. Minimum required aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counselling is:-

  • For General candidates: 40%
  • For SC/ST candidates: 35%
 


Reservation Criteria

75% of the total seats are reserved for the natives of Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% filled by candidates from other states who are admitted through Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). 

If case of unfilled seats in state quota, the same will be filled with candidates from other states who have appeared for the CEE.
