Mumbai University (MU) is the oldest University which was established in 1857 and located at Mumbai, Maharashtra and one of the first three universities in India.  Several private colleges in and around Mumbai are affiliated to MU. It has established its name in industrial & International collaborations and runs various professional courses. At national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and out-reach activities. The University was accorded 5 star status in 2001 & 'A' grade status in April 2012 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has been granted University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) status by UGC and PURSE Scheme by DST.

In the last five years it has seen 104% increase in under-graduate students. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of students. More than eighty of its teachers are on various professional bodies. Moreover, eighteen National/International awards have been won by the teachers in the last five years.

The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) is a part of Mumbai University offering various courses under the Distance Learning Programme. University of Mumbai is the 7th University in the country which started Distance Education Program in a conventional set up.

IDOL invites applications for BA Programme, B.Com. Programme, B.Sc. Programme and B.Sc. (Nautical Science) Programme among the undergraduate courses and MA, MA (Education) Programme, M.Com. Programme, M.Sc. /MA (Mathematics) Programme, MCA Programme, PGDFM (PG Diploma in Financial Management) and PGDORM (PG Diploma in Operations Research for Management) Programme among postgraduate programmes for the academic year 2017-18. The admission for MCA is through an Entrance Exam and for the rest of the courses is based on merit.

Eligibility Criteria

BA

You should fulfil any of the following criteria:

  • You should have passed H.S.C. (Class 12th) or Equivalent Exam
  • You should have passed for admission to F.Y.B.A (First year BA) course

B.Com

You should fulfil any of the following criteria:

  • You should have passed H.S.C. (Class 12th) or Equivalent Exam with Commerce.
  • You should have passed for admission to F.Y.B.Com.

B.Sc

You must have passed the higher secondary examination. If you have passed the three year technical diploma examination, then also you are eligible for admission.

MA

You should have any Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University.

M.Com

You should have a B.Com./BMS Degree from any recognised University.

MCA

You should be a graduate in any faculty of a recognized University by UGC with minimum 45% marks (minimum 40% for reserved category) and Mathematics as a subject at Class 12th or higher level.

Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Nautical Technology)

You should fulfil any of the following criteria:

  • You must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent (Class 12th) examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education, Mumbai or an examination of any other body recognized as equivalent thereto, with the following subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

If you have passed Standard 11th before 1978, with the following subjects: English, Science, and Mathematics, you are also eligible for admission.

  • You should have been sponsored by a shipping company through the respective Associations as an officer trainee in the Nautical Department of a sea-going ship for a minimum of twenty-four months of practical shipboard training as approved sea-going service.
  • You should have already performed a minimum of twenty-four months of practical shipboard training as approved sea-going service as an officer trainee in the Nautical Department of a sea-going ship (You will have to submit a Testimonial as proof in the form of “Sea-time Certificate” from the shipping company or Attest a copy of continuous Discharge Certificate or the certificate of competency as Navigating Officer on completion of such training).

Master of Arts [MA] (Education)

You should have a B.Ed. or B.A. (Education) Degree from any recognised University.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics) & Master of Arts [MA] (Mathematics)

You should have a B.A. or B.Sc. Degree with minimum 2 papers in Maths of University of Mumbai or at least 3 papers in Maths from other University.

Master of Science [M.Sc.] (Information Technology) & Master of Science [M.Sc] (Computer Science)

You should have any Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized University.

Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management

You must hold a University degree in any faculty with 2 years working experience in any Organization or must have recognized professional qualifications and at least five year’s professional experience.

Nationality: You should be an Indian national only.


How to apply?

Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Geography) , Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Marathi) & Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Sanskrit)

You should apply online on the IDOL website. You should apply separately in case of MCA Entrance Exam.

You should pay the Application Fee of Rs. 500 through online mode i.e., Debit/ Credit Cards/ Internet Banking, or Bank Challan of Bank of Maharashtra only.

Fees for Eligibility case: You can obtain the Eligibility certificate from the website if required under the following cases:

  • Document Verification fees of Rs. 400/- will be charged if you have passed you Board/ University Examinations from other than Maharashtra State Higher Secondary Board / other than University of Mumbai
  • Eligibility fees of Rs. 220/- if you have passed your examination from Maharashtra State Universities and Diploma from MSBTE and Rs. 320/- for out of Maharashtra State Universities /Boards other than Maharashtra /Technical Boards of other State.

You should fill the Application Form with the required details.

Enclosures: You should attach the following enclosures along with the Application Form:

  • Two self-attested copies of proof of Date of Birth
  • Copy of Residence Proof
  • Three recent passport size photographs
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • Three self-Attested copies of Class 12th marksheet
  • Identity Card of previous course (For old IDOL students only)
  • Three copies of Bachelor Degree Certificate (For MA, M.Com., M.Sc.(Maths) only)
  • Two years work experience certificate (For PGDFM and PGDORM only)

You must then submit in person the dully filled and signed Application Form along with the original certificates and self-attested copies of the required documents to the staff at respective counters for verification. If you cannot go in person, you can send your application by registered post

You will be selected on the basis of fulfilment of eligibility criteria.
