Utkal University is a UGC Recognized, AICTE Approved and one of the oldest universities in India established in 1943.This is the largest affiliating university with 267 affiliated general colleges, 15 law colleges and 6 medical and pharmacy colleges. The university imparts professional /nonprofessional education, research and training.

 Only candidates with the relevant qualification can register for the above mentioned programmes. As per the rules of GOI, seats are reserved for people belonging to different categories such as SC/ST/BC etc. as well as special categories viz. Differently-abled etc. Candidates can register for admission by filling-in the application form and submitting the required processing fee, on or before June 07, 2017 (tentative). Admission to the above programmes is done on the basis of Entrance examination/ qualifying degree/both.

Eligibility Criteria

M.Sc

  • Candidate must have hold of Hons. / Spl. Hons. / Graduation degree under 10+2+3 pattern the relevant /concerned subject from a recognized university.
  • Candidate must have passed the qualifying degree with minimum 50%marks (45 % for SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled etc)
  • For admission to  Anthropology only  candidates with second class Honours in Anthropology /least second class Honours in the following subjects: Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, History, and Geography with Anthropology as one of the subject with at least 50% marks/ Second Class Honours in Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, Micro-biology and Geology are eligible
  •  For admission to Geography only  candidates with Second Class Honours in Geography /Second Class Honours in any  subject with Geography as one of the  Subject at graduation level (Arts/Science) Level are eligible
  • For admission to Biotechnology Candidates having +3 degree in Physical / Biological Sciences with at least 55% marks in B.Sc. and Biology / Biotechnology as one of the subjects in +2 level are eligible

MA

  • Candidate must have hold of Hons. / Spl. Hons. / Graduation degree under 10+2+3 pattern the relevant /concerned subject from a recognized university.
  • Candidate must have passed the qualifying degree with minimum 50%marks (45 % for SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled etc)
  • For admission to Ancient. IndianHistory, Culture & Archaeology candidates with at least Second class Honours In History/ second class Honours in other subjects with 50% marks in Archaeology and Museology as a pass subject at the + 3 Degree level are eligible. 
  • For admission to PublicAdministration candidates must have obtained at least Second class honours in Public Administration/ at least 50% marks in aggregate at +3 Degree level. However an advantage of addition of 5 or 10 marks to the career marks for candidates passing B.A. with Political Science as pass or Honours subject respectively.
  • For admission to Sociology candidates with Second class Honours in Sociology or at least 50% of marks in aggregate with Honours in Anthropology, Political Science, Economics or Psychology are eligible
  • For admission to Psychology candidates Graduate with Psychology as a subject having at least 2nd class Honours or at least 50% aggregate marks at +3 Degree level are eligible.

Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc]

  • Candidate must have hold of Hons. / Spl. Hons. / Graduation degree under 10+2+3 pattern the relevant /concerned subject from a recognized university.
  • Candidate must have passed the qualifying degree with minimum 50%marks (45 % for SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled etc)
  • An advantage of addition of 10 marks to the candidates passing B.A. with Library Science as a Pass / Honours subject & for candidates who have qualified one year B.Lib. Inf. Sc.

LLM

  • Candidate must have passed the qualifying degree i.e.  LL.B or equivalent law degree   with minimum 50%marks (45 % for SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled etc)
  • Candidates whose final year result is awaited are also eligible to apply

Master of Journalism and Mass Communication [MJMC]

  • Candidate must have hold Graduation degree under 10+2+3 pattern in any stream from a recognized university.
  • Candidate must have passed the qualifying degree with minimum 50%marks (45 % for SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled etc)


Application Process

M.Sc , MA & M.Com

Candidates must apply for admission by filling and submitting completed application form before 7 June 2017 (tentative). The   application form may be collected from the Office the Chairman, PG Council or from the Office of the Heads of the Department on payment of Rs. 600/- at the university cash counter.

The candidates can also obtain the application form from university website. All fields in the application form should be correctly and completely filled-in with the relevant information.

Important steps for filling in the application form:

  • Fill the application form with the necessary information.
  • Enclose the application form with the important documents (e-reciept/DD / BC of Rs. 600 in favour of Administrative Office, P. G. Teaching Departments, Utkal University payable at any nationalized bank of Bhubaneswar in case of downloaded application)
  • Duly filled in application forms must be sent to the respective

  • Candidate must keep the Xerox copy of the completed applications for subsequent use

The candidate must submit the photo affixed and duly signed application and the following copies of following documents.

  1. Mark sheets and Certificates of all examinations.
  2. C.L.C. and Conduct Certificate from the institution last attended.
  3. SC/ST Certificate from the competent authority (MP / MLA / Collector / ADM / SDO / Local Gazetted Revenue Officer not below the rank of Deputy Collector or Tahasildar) by candidates of those categories.
  4. PH certificate physically challenged students and ID card issued by District Welfare Officer / Community Development Officer / Social Welfare Department of State Government) by the physically challenged candidates.
  5. Sports and Games Certificate of participation are required for quota and special weightage consideration, from the competent Authority (Director of Sports / Sports Council of the Utkal University) countersigned by the Principal / HOD of the college / department by the candidates interested to apply under the said category.
  6. Certificate shall be produced from the Rajya / Zilla Sainik Board by the applicants interested to apply under Ex/In-service quota.
  7. Original application fee e-receipt.
  8. Three passport size photographs (one to be fixed in the application form and two more copies to be attached with the form).
  9. Migration Certificate, if the candidate is not from Utkal University.


Admission Process

M.Sc , MA & M.Com

Admission to the above courses is based on the entrance examination/qualifying degree/or both.

Hostel facility:

The university provides separate hostel facility for boys and girls with various recreational facilities like broadband, sports etc.


Admission Reservation

As per the Government of Odisha Notification and university guidelines:

  • 22.5% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Tribe students.
  • 16.25% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste students.
  • For anthropology Out of 32 seats-
  1. 24 seats are reserved for candidates with Honours degree in Anthropology or candidates with Honours in Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, History and Geography with Anthropology as a pass or Elective subject
  2.  8 seats are reserved for candidates with at least 2nd Class Honours Degree in Zoology Botany, Biotechnology, Micro-biology and Geology.
  •  For biotechnology Out of total 14 seats,
  1. 10 (ten) students will be selected through JNU common entrance test, New Delhi
  2. 4 (four) students will be selected through Utkal University Entrance Test.
