Central University of Orissa Ph.D. and M.Phil. Admissions 2018

Established in 2009, Central University of Orissa is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) which imparts professional and non-professional education, research and training.

The University offers admission to the following Research (Ph.D./M.Phil.) Programmes: 

  • Odia
  • Sociology
  • Anthropology
  • Journalism & Mass Communication
  • Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources

Only candidates with the relevant qualification are eligible to apply for the above mentioned programmes.

Candidates can register for admission by submitting completed applications along with the fee of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/ PwD candidates) through challan at any SBI branch. Admission to the above programmes is done on the basis of qualifying degree merit as well as marks secured by the candidate in the entrance test and interview, conducted by the university.

Eligibility

Master of Arts [M.A.] (Journalism & Mass Communication) & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation in J&MC from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).  

Ph.D. in Journalism & Mass Communication

Eligibility:

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation/M.Phil. In J&MC from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   

M.Phil. (Anthropology)

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation in Anthropology from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   

Ph.D. in Anthropology - 2 Seats

Eligibility:

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation/M.Phil. In Anthropology from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   

M.Phil. (Sociology)

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation in Sociology from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).    

Ph.D. (Sociology)

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation/M.Phil. In Sociology from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates). 

M.Phil. (Odia)

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation in Odia from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   

Ph.D. in Odia – 3 Seats

Eligibility:

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation/M.Phil. In Odia from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   

M.Phil. in BCNR- 10 Seats

Eligibility:

Candidate  must possess Post-Graduation in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biophysics, Forestry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   

Ph.D. in BCNR – 3 Seats

Eligibility:

Candidate must possess Post-Graduation/M.Phil. In Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biophysics, Forestry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics from a recognized University /any other Institution recognized as equivalent thereto with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).   


How To Apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

Candidates must apply for admission by filling and submitting completed applications before May 9, 2018 (May 5, 2018 in case of online application form).

Online application forms:-

  • Candidates can apply online by filling the concerned application form through the university website “www.cuo.ac.in”
  • Candidate must submit the processing fee amount Rs. 500/- (General/OBC candidates) and Rs. 250/- (for SC/ST/PwD candidates) through challan at any SBI branch (A/C No. 33105489656; IFSC Code: SBIN0000121, BRANCH: Koraput)
  • Upon completion of the online application process, candidates are required to send hard copy of the application form along with the university copy of challan through speed post at the following address:

Offline application forms:

  • Candidates can obtain the application form by sending challan of SBI of Rs. 500/- (for General/OBC candidates) and Rs. 250/- (for SC/ST/PwD candidates). The fee can be paid at any SBI branch (A/C No. 33105489656; IFSC Code: SBIN0000121, BRANCH: Koraput)

The candidate must send the photo affixed and duly signed application and copies of following documents:

  1. Transfer Certificate   
  2. Graduation marks  certificate
  3. HSC marks  certificate
  4. PG marks certificate
  5. Community Certificate (For OC candidates community certificate not required)   
  6. Certificates for Special categories, if required     
  7. Nativity Certificate if required   
  8. Date of Birth Certificate (SSC / ICSE / CBSE).
  9. Medical certificate
  10. Original Cash receipt of application fee, in case of purchased application form
  11. Challan of required application fee payable to SBI Branch as the cost of application form, in case of downloaded form.
  12. Qualification proof for above mentioned National level entrance tests, in case of candidates exempted from Ph.D. entrance test  


Admission Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

  • Admission to the above research programmes will be done on the basis of entrance examination (50%), qualifying degree (20%) marks and interview (30%).
  • However, candidates who have already qualified for CSIR/UGC-JRF/NET, SLET/SET, ICAR/ICMR, awardees of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF), Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF), National Fellowship for OBC, Basic Science Research Fellowship, Inspire Fellowship, National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) Fellowship or similar National Fellowships are exempted from entrance test and will be selected solely on the basis of interview.
  • Candidates with the M.Phil. Degree in the same programme are also not required to appear in the written test for the Ph.D. Programme.

UGC funded Non-NET fellowships  

  • M.Phil. students will be paid fellowship @ Rs.5000/- per month for a period of one year
  • Ph.D. scholars will be paid  fellowship @ Rs.8000/- per month for a period of three years
