Kannur University PG Admissions 2018

Kannur University, Kerala provide several Post-Graduate courses under Choice Based Credit Semester System (CBCSS). With respect to the university’s guidelines one seat in each PG programme has been reserved for students who belong to the sports category (outstanding performer). Aspirants who find themselves eligible to apply for the post graduate course offered by the University can apply online within the scheduled date.

University follows a single online application process to grant admission in its departments/centers & community colleges. Students are advised to check the stringent eligibility relaxation & reservation rules before looking for admission in aided & government affiliated colleges of the university. Maintaining position in the rank list is the only criteria to secure admission.

Eligibility

MCA

  • Students with Under-Graduate degree of B.Tech./B.Sc./B.Com. or BCA along with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the core subjects with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.
  • According to Government of Kerala guidelines, Students should have passed a degree course of at least duration of three year along with Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science/Compute Application/Engineering/Technology as core or elementary subjects with 50% marks in aggregate.

Note:

  • For SEBC & physically handicapped candidates 45% marks (for SC/ST students a pass in degree course is sufficient) in aggregate are required.
  • In terms of overall CGPA calculations, it should not be less than 1.6

Master of Arts [MA] (English)

Students who have passed B.A English/Functional English or B.A/B.Sc. along with English as one of the common subject with 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Note:

  • Weightage of 10% marks (5% weightage will be given to those who have studied English as functional subject) will be given to those students who have studied English as an optional subject.
  • Students who have passed BBM/BBA/B.Com & B.Sc. are not eligible to take admission in this programme under Kannur University.

Master of Arts [MA] (Malayalam)

Students who have passed B.A Malayalam or B.A/B.Sc. along with Malayalam as one of the common subject with 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Note:

  • Weightage of 10% marks will be given to those students who have studied Malayalam as core subject.
  • Students who have passed BBM/BBA/B.Com & B.Sc. are not eligible to take admission in this programme under Kannur University.

Master of Arts [MA] (Hindi)

Students who have passed B.A Hindi/Functional Hindiwith 45% marks or B.A/B.Sc. along with Hindi as one of the common subject with 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Note:

  • Weightage of 10% marks (5% weightage will be given to those who have studied functional Hindi as core course) will be given to those students who have studied Hindi as core course.
  • Students who have passed LRP programmes like BBM/BBA/B.Com & B.Sc. are not eligible to take admission in this programme under Kannur University.

Master of Arts [MA] (Applied Economics)

MA Economics/Applied Economics/Development Economics:

Students who have passed B.A Economics with 45% marks or B.Sc. along with Mathematics/Statistics with 70% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Note:

In case of B.Sc. qualified students, only 25% seats will be filled from the total sanctioned strength.

Master of Arts [MA] (Anthropology) & Master of Arts [MA] (Bharatanatyam)

Students who have passed any degree with 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Note:

Relaxation of 2% & 3% will be given to those students who have studied Anthropology at 10+2 & Bachelor level respectively.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics)

Students with B.Sc. Mathematics with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Statistics)

Students with B.Sc. Statistics with not less than 50% marks in aggregate or B.Sc. Mathematics along with Statistics with at least 55% marks are eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Physics)

Students with B.Sc Physics with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Chemistry)

Students with B.Sc. Chemistry with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

M.Sc. Botany:

Students with B.Sc. Botany/Life Science/Plant Science with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Zoology)

Students with B.Sc. Zoology/Life Science with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Microbiology)

Students with Bachelor’s Degree in any of the subjects namely, Biotechnology/ Chemistry/ Bio Chemistry/ Zoology/ Botany/ Plant Science/ Life Science/ Microbiology or any other subjects with microbiology/ biotechnology as one of the subjects of study at UG level with not less than 50% marks are eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Computer Science)

  • Students with B.Sc. Electronics/Computer Science/Statistics or Physics with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.
  • Students with any degree along with Mathematics & Physics at 10+2 level are also eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Environmental Science)

  • Students with B.Sc. Degree in any of the subjects namely, Botany/ Zoology/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Environmental Science/ Environmental Management/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Forestry or any branch of Life Science/ Geology/ Geography with not less than 50% marks are eligible to apply.
  • Students with engineering degree in Civil/ Mechanical/ Chemical/ Environmental branch with an aggregate of 55% marks are also eligible to apply.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Medical Microbiology)

Duration: 3 years

Students seeking admission should have passed UG degree in Chemistry or any other branch of Chemistry with any of the biological Science branch as one of the subjects of study at Degree/ 10+2 level or Biotechnology or any of the Biological Science branch like Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology, Botany with Chemistry/Biochemistry as one of the subjects of study at degree level with not less than 60% marks.

Note: Aggregate calculation will not include marks of language subject/open subject or common subject.

    Master of Science [M.Sc] (Medical Biochemistry)

    Duration: 2 years

    Students looking for admission must have passed B.Sc. degree (duration of 4 years) in biochemistry/Medical Microbiology respectively.

    Master of Science [M.Sc] (Medical Laboratory Technology)

    Students looking for admission must have passed B.Sc. MLT(4 years) or B.Sc. MLT(3 years) with 10 years of experience in relevant field are eligible to apply.

    Master of Science [M.Sc] (Molecular Biology)

    Candidates with B.Sc. degree in any branch of Life Sciences (Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, and Laboratory Technology), Chemical, Medical, Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences from any recognized University, with not less than 50% marks are eligible to apply.

    Master of Science [M.Sc] (Wood Science & Technology)

    Students with B.Sc. in Chemistry/ Chemical Sciences/ Physics/ Botany/ Plant Science/ Forestry/ Micro Biology/ Biotechnology/ Mathematics with at least 50% marks in the concerned subjects are eligible to apply.

    Master of Science [M.Sc] (Geography)

    Students with B.Sc. or B.A degree with at least 50% marks in main and subsidiaries parts together. Blind/Deaf candidates are not eligible for admission to this course.

      Master of Arts [MA] (Arabic)

      • Students who have passed B.A Arabic as core subject with 45% marks or B.A/B.Sc. along with Arabic as one of the common subject with 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.
      • Student with BA (Afzal-ul-ulama) or Arabic [Oriental Title in Arabic] examination conducted by Kerala University/Calicut University /Kannur University with 50% marks are also eligible to apply.

      Note: Benefit of 10% marks will be given to those students who have studied Arabic & Islamic History (Double Main) with 50% marks in aggregate.

      Master of Arts [MA] (Kannada)

      Students who have passed B.A Kannada as core subject with 45% marks or B.A/B.Sc. along with Kannada as one of the common subject with 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Note:

      Students who have passed LRP programmes like BBM/BBA/B.Com & B.Sc. are not eligible to take admission in this programme.

      Master of Arts [MA] (History and Heritage Management)

      Students who have passed B.A History as core subject with 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Master of Arts [MA] (Philosophy)

      Students who have passed B.A Philosophy or any degree with Psychology as one of the subject with 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Master of Arts [MA] (Politics)

      Students who have passed B.A Politics as core subject or any degree with 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Master of Arts [MA] (Music)

      Students who have passed B.A Music or any degree with good aptitude & training towards Carnatic music with 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Master of Arts [MA] (Rural & Tribal Sociology)

      Note:

      Relaxation of 10% & 5 % will be given to those who have studied Sociology & Anthropology respectively.

      Master of Science [M.Sc] (Electronics)

      Students with B.Sc. Electronics/Computer Science or Physics with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Master of Social Work [MSW]

      Students who have passed any degree with 45% marks (50% marks for science subjects) for non-science subjects in are eligible to apply.

      Note:

      Weightage of 10% marks will be given to those students who have obtained degree in BSW with 45% marks in aggregate.

      M.Com

      Students with UG degree in B.Com/BBA/BBS or BBM with not less than 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.

      Master of Science [M.Sc] (Counselling Psychology)

      Students seeking for admission must have passed B.Sc. Psychology (3 years) from any university with at least 50% marks in optional main or core course. A student having a degree in any subject is also eligible for admission with 50% marks in aggregate.

      Eligibility Relaxation Criteria:

      • For SC/ST students, minimum passing marks in relevant or part subject are required to secure admission in PG courses.
      • For OBC & OEC students, there is the provision of relaxation of 5% marks in relevant or part subject are required to secure admission in PG courses.

      Master of Science [M.Sc] (Geology)

      Students with B.Sc. Geology with not less than 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.


      How To Apply

      MA , M.Sc & MCA

      • Eligible students can apply online for PG programmes by visiting the official website of Kannur University. (Click on ‘Online Registration’)
      • After clicking on the Registration link, an application form will be displayed on the screen. You need to fill that in appropriate manner with correct information. Submit the form after confirmation of all details.
      • Students have to pay INR 500 for M.Sc Microbiology/Computer Science & Biotechnology (INR 250 for other courses) as application fee.

      Note: Students belong to SC/ST category have to pay INR 100/- as part of application fee.

      Online filled application with desired documents should reach the Heads of Departments/Course Directors of concerned departments on or before May 31, 2016.


      Admission Process

      MA , M.Sc & MCA

      Admission will be granted on the basis of entrance test conducted by the Kannur University. Final admission will be given on the basis of rank in the entrance exam. Merit list will be prepared keeping in mind, the factors like reservation norms & eligibility relaxations.


      Reservation

      Students should check the reservation norms laid down by Kannur University before filling the application form. These regulations would be applicable to both Government & Aided Colleges as discussed below:

      Government Colleges:

      Apart from 3% of the total seats reserved for PWD category, remaining seats will be bifurcated as given below:

      *Note: This criterion is applicable to those applicants who are not enjoying any other communal reservation. To avail the benefits of this category they have to produce the certificate that they come under the Below Poverty Line (BPL).

      User facts:

      1. Thiyya and Billava communities will be considered as Ezhava Community for reservation.
      2. For SEBC Candidates, annual family income should be less than INR 4.5 Lakhs for getting the benefit of reservation.
      3.  The B.P.L. Certificate issued by the Village Officer only will be considered as the Certificate of Economic Backwardness.
