The University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, established on 24 January 1857. It was the first institution in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university. Within India it is recognized as a "Five-Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC and the NAAC.
There are seven Nobel laureates associated with this university including Ronald Ross, Rabindranath Tagore, C. V. Raman and Amartya Sen. It has the highest number of students who have cleared the doctoral entrance eligibility exam in Natural Science & Arts. The university is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It was also ranked 2nd by the India Today Top India Universities of 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Rashbehari Shiksha Prangan, Calcutta University, offers the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) Programme and Master of Technology (M.Tech.) Programme in various specializations, for the academic year 2016-17. The applications for B.Tech. Programme will be based on WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) 2016 and for M.Tech. Programme will be based on Entrance Exam followed by an Interview. The application process for both the Programmes is entirely online and must be completed by February 29th, 2016 for B.Tech. Programme and May 10th, 2016 for M.Tech. Programme.

The University offers the following specializations under the B.Tech. Programme:-
You must have passed Class XII Examinations in the system of 10+2 under West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, securing an average of at least 60% marks (or equivalent grade) in these subjects and cleared West Bengal JEE. The minimum requirement of marks will however not be applicable for admission to Jute and Fibre
For Lateral Entry to 2nd Year:
You must have passed B.Sc. Honours with the subjects specified for different courses as given belowME/M.Tech

You should have passed the B.Tech. Degree examination in the relevant field of specialization from Calcutta University or any other University recognised by UGC.
If you are from a University other than Calcutta University, you should have secured at least 60% marks or its equivalent grade in B.Tech level. You should also have
a valid GATE qualified score in relevant subject.
You should submit the Application Form online on the official WBJEEwebsite.
WBJEE Application Form will be broadly categorized into three steps-

Document Uploading: You will then be directed to Document Uploading. You must upload all the images/documents in jpg/jpeg format. The page size of document should be in A4 format. You must upload the following documents and images:
Application Fee: Once the documents are successfully uploaded, the system will enter into the Fee Payment. You should pay the Application Fee of Rs. 500 + Bank Service Charges either by Debit Card/Credit Card or by Allahabad Bank challan.
This completes your registration process. You can take a print out of the Confirmation Page after final submission of the Application for future references. There is no need to send any document by post.ME/M.Tech
You must apply for the programme online only on the University website.
You should open the page to M.Tech. Admission to Apply Online and click on the ‘Click here to register’ link at the bottom of the Login form.
If you are a new user of this online system, you will have to register yourself on the website by creating Account with Unique Username and password. This Username / password is very important for all further transactions.
You must then proceed filling in the form from ‘Personal’ page to Payment info’ page, one after another. You cannot jump to a particular page of the form without filling in the previous page. You also need not fill the Form in one go, you can save the filled up Form and complete it later.

Once you fill all the details, click on the “Submit” button. You should then take a print out of the Application Form.
Your registration process is now complete.

You will be selected on the basis of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2016.
The exam would be based on class XI, XII Syllabus. There will be two papers. Paper I will be of Mathematics for a duration of 2 hours. Paper II will be of Physics and Chemistry, also for a duration of 2 hours. Questions in the exam will be of multiple choice/ objective type. In both the papers, questions will be classified in three categories – category 1, category 2 and category3.
The category-wise marking scheme is as follows:-
Category 1- For each correct answer, one mark will be awarded. There shall also be negative marking with 0.25 marks being deducted for every incorrect answer. For marking more than 1 answer, marks will be deducted.
Category 2- For each correct answer, 2 marks will be allotted and negative marking of 0.50 marks will be implemented for wrong answers. For marking more than 1 answer, marks will be deducted.
Category 3- In this section more than 1 answer can be correct. Negative making will not be done in this section. You might have to mark all the correct answers, for which 2 marks will be awarded. However, if you mark one correct and one incorrect answer then no marks will be awarded.
For Lateral Entry:-
You will be selected on the basis of merit.ME/M.Tech
For Full Time:-
You will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test conducted by the respective Departments of the University, followed by an Interview should you qualify the Entrance Test. 70% weightage to be given on the GATE marks obtained (out of 100) and 20 % weightage to be given on marks obtained in the Entrance Test & rest 10% weightage on Interview.
For Part Time:-
Your selection will be based on weightage in Entrance Test marks (50%) + Interview (50%) [ including additional weightage of in service candidate (in service candidate may get maximum 20 marks out of 50 of total interview marks, without service candidate will get 0 marks out of 20 allotted for in service criteria].
The Entrance Test will be of MCQ type for a duration of one and a half hours. The Exam will carry a maximum of 100 marks. Number of questions in each test will be of 50 (marking as 1 to 50) and each question should have four options of answers (marking as A, B, C, and D) of which one will be correct answer. For each correct answer 2 marks will be awarded. There shall be negative marking with 0.5 marks being deducted for each wrong answer.
The reservation criteria will be as per the norms prescribed by the Government of West Bengal.
