Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, also known as Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) was established by the Government of the NCT of Delhi through an Act of the Delhi Legislature. The University started functioning in August 2008. It is a Unitary Non-affiliating one whose main focus is on undergraduate and postgraduate courses and on research in the Humanities and the Social Sciences. It is completely funded by the Government of the NCT of Delhi. The University has now been declared eligible to receive Central Government Assistance.

The university has been given the 'A'grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has a non-hierarchical, collegial, liberal university atmosphere. There are also number of fee-waivers, fellowships and bursaries available to students to ensure that financial difficulties never become impediment for meritorious students enrolling at AUD.

AUD invites Applications for admission to the Research Programmes which include Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Programme and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme for the academic year 2016-17. All M.Phil. And Ph.D. students will be entitled to a stipend. The M.Phil. Programmes will be for a duration of 2 years and the Ph.D. Programme for a duration of 3 years. The admission process for each programme begins on a separate date and the Application Forms can be filled either online through the University website, or offline from the AUD campus.

The University offers the following specializations under the Ph.D. Programme:-

Eligibility Criteria:

For all Programmes: Candidates should have secured a minimum of 55% marks for general category and 50% marks in case of SC / ST / PWD category, in a professional or a Master’s degree in the respective or related subject from a recognised University.

For Development Studies: Candidates must fulfil any of the following conditions:

  • Hold an M.Phil. degree in Development Studies / Sociology / Anthropology / Political Science / Economics / or allied subjects with strong Social Science training; and
  • Hold an M.A/M.Sc. in Development Studies or allied subjects / Economics / Political Science / Sociology or a relevant Masters’ degree with strong Social Science training, who have scholarly publications to their credit; or
  • Have displayed special aptitude for research, such as through the completion of a good quality research thesis (or a project of comparable scope)

For Ph.D. Human Ecology: Candidates must either have an M.Phil. Degree or those holding M.Sc./M.A must have displayed special aptitude such as completion of a research thesis (or project of comparable scope) or scholarly publication(s) from a recognised University.

For M.Phil. to Ph.D.: Students completing the prescribed 18 credits of M. Phil. course work may apply for admission to Ph.D. If they have completed the prescribed course work securing an overall grade average of A Minus.


How To Apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

There is only one Application Form common for both the programmes. You can either fill the form online on the University website, or offline (on-campus) at the AUD Campus at Kashmere Gate.

Step 1: You must click on “Admissions 2016” and choose the Research programme you are applying for in the drop down menu on the page.

Step 2: You should then select the programme of your choice and enter your email address and captcha image. Then click submit and register. The system will then send a password.

Step 3: You should then login with that password and start filling up the Application Form. There will be three pages in your application:

Page 1- Personal Information

Page 2-Qualifying Exam Information

Page 3-Other Information (After Preview Proceed for Payment Option through DD/Cash/Online

Page 4-Payment of Fees

Step 4: Fill in the required person and educational details, and upload your photograph. The photograph should be less than 50 kb in size and not greater than 200 x 200 pixels in dimensions.

Step 5: At the last step, you will be required to make the payment for Application fee of Rs.600 in case of general category and Rs. 300 in case of SC/ST/PWD category, for every M.Phil. / Ph.D. Programme you apply for. It can be done either in cash, via Demand Draft or online payment.

  • For Cash: You must go to the AUD campus and make the cash payment. You can then enter the cash receipt details in the Application Form.
  • For Demand Draft: The DD should be in favour of Ambedkar University, Delhi payable at New Delhi. You must enter the DD details in the Application Form.
  • For Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking: You will be redirected to a payment gateway where you can make the payment.

Step 6: Review the filled in Application Form and make the necessary changes, if any. You must then click on the “submit” button, and make the final submission of your Application Form.

Step 7: Take a print out of the filled in Application Form. You must submit the Research Proposal in hard copy along with completed online form to the following address either by post or by hand, on or before the last date of applying:

Admission Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

For all Programmes: The selection for all programmes will be based on the following distribution:-

For M.Phil. Development Practice:-

Candidates will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test followed by a Group Discussion and Interview.

The Entrance Exam will be for a total of 50 marks. The test will be for a duration of 1 hours and 45 minutes. The paper will have 3 sections:

  • Section A will comprise of Multiple Choice Questions. This has to be answered on a separate answer sheet. There shall be no negative marking for this.
  • Section B will have projective type questions and must be answered in the question paper itself.
  • Section C shall carry 30 marks and is reading based. The reading material for Section C is available on the University website. This has to be attempted on the answer sheet provided.

For Women and Gender Studies, Hindi and History:

Candidates will be selected on the basis of Research Proposal, Entrance Exam and Interview.

The written exam will carry 50 marks and shall have 3 questions of 15, 15, and 20 marks each. It will be held for a duration of two hours.

The Research Proposal will carry 25 marks. It will be checked for plagiarism in which case it may get rejected. The proposal should have around 1500-2000 words only. You must upload a soft copy (in pdf or word format only) of the proposal along with the online form. A hard copy of the research proposal must also be submitted along with the printed copy of the filled online application form at the University address.

The interview will also carry 25 marks.

For Ph.D. Human Ecology:-

It will have essay questions addressing contemporary issues at the interface of environment and human society. Candidate must have an ability to respond to the questions from a broad social sciences perspective. The expected reading material will be made available beforehand.

You must be able to score a minimum of 55% marks to have a Satisfactory Performance, in proposal assessment, entrance test and interview combined for General Category with an appropriate relaxation for SC/ST/PWD Categories.


Reservation

 Reservation of seats will be as per the rules of Government of NCT.


Notes

  • For Foreign Nationals: Foreign nationals who are not in India need to apply through their Consulate or Embassy. All foreign nationals must hold a student visa valid for the entire period of study endorsed by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The degrees of foreign nationals must be recognised by the Association of Indian Universities. s
  • Hostel Facility: The University has hostel facilities for Women at Kashmere Gate Campus. Students can apply for hostel facility after they have secured admission. The application form and brochure for hostel accommodation will be available at the University Offices and on the AUD website at the time of admission.
