North Bengal University is a UGC Recognized, AICTE Approved public university which was established in 1962. The university has 23 departments imparting professional / non-professional education, research and training to many students every year.

The university offers admission to the following degree programme: 

  • B.L.I.S (Bachelor of Library and Information Science)

Only candidates with the relevant qualification can register for the above mentioned programmes. Admission to the above programmes is done on the basis of the merit of the candidates in the Entrance Examination/qualifying degree. Candidates can register for admission by filling-in and submitting the application form along with the required processing fee, on or before the last date.

  • Candidate should have passed a Postgraduate/ Undergraduate/ honours degree of this university or any other recognized university
  • Candidates from other universities must appear and qualify entrance examination conducted by the university


How To Apply

Bachelor of Library and Information Science [B.Lib.I.Sc]

Candidates can apply for admission by filling-in and submitting completed applications along with the supporting documents. Application forms may be collected from the office of the university upon payment of Rs.100/- (Rs.35/- for SC/ST/OBC of the State of West Bengal on production of Certificate in the name of the candidate) at the university cash counter.

Candidates can also download the application form available at the official university website.  All fields in the application form should be correctly and completely filled-in with the relevant information.

In case of downloaded application forms, candidate must enclose supporting documents and DD of Rs.100/- drawn in favour of "University of North Bengal", payable at SBI, NBU Campus Branch (Code 2096)

Duly filled-in applications, along with supporting documents (and DD in case of downloaded application) must reach the following address:

Candidate must keep the photo copies of the completed applications for subsequent use.

The candidate must send the photo affixed and duly signed application along with the copies of following documents:

  1. Transfer Certificate   
  2. Admit Card and Mark Sheet of 10th
  3. Qualifying degree examination
  4. HSC/CBSE/other equivalent mark sheet
  5. Community Certificate (For OC candidates community certificate not required)   
  6. Certificates for Special categories, if required     
  7. Nativity Certificate if required   
  8.  Date of Birth Certificate (SSC / ICSE / CBSE).
  9. Medical certificate
  10. Other relevant certificates

Note: Candidate who wants to join this University on migration from another University shall have to submit a Migration Certificate and Registration Fee of Rs. 250/- within one month from the date of admission.


Admission Process

Bachelor of Library and Information Science [B.Lib.I.Sc]

Candidates from other universities are selected for B.L.I.S programme on the basis of entrance examination conducted by the university. However, candidates possessing NBU degree are selected directly on the basis of qualifying degree merit.


Reservation

  • 60% of seats are reserved for NBU candidates
  • 40% are reserved for the candidates of other universities.
  • Reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B according to the specified rules of GOI/UGC etc.

Scholarships:

The University endows the following scholarships to its deserving candidates:

  1. SC/ST Welfare and Backward Class Scholarships
  2. Scholarships given by Govt. of India

Hostel facility:

The university provides separate hostel facility for boys and girls.There are 4 hostel blocks for boys and 5 for girls
