IIM Kozhikode PGDM Admissions 2017-19

Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) has announced the admission criteria for its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) for 2017-19 session. PGPM is a two year fully residential programme.

IIM follows a two stage admission process, first stage includes shortlisting for PI & second stage involves final confirmation of seat after evaluation of CAT 2017  score, academic performance, Quality of work experience followed by Personal Interview (PI).

There are two ways for admissions to the PGPM: one for Indian students and the other is for NRI & Foreign candidates.The admission proceedings and application processes for both are different. Final selection of a candidate will depend on CAT score, Academic weightage, Academic Diversity Factor/Gender Diversity Factor & Performance in WAT & PI. Foreign & NRI are required to apply through their latest GMATor TOEFL score.

Students looking for admission have to apply online through the official website of CAT test. Completely filled-in applications should be submitted online along with the prescribed processing fee within the stipulated time.

It is the minimum qualification or degree a candidate must possess in order to apply. The academic qualification required to appear for CAT 2016 is listed below:

  1. A Candidate should have completed their Bachelor’s degree program in any stream from a recognized university or should have an equivalent qualification which is recognized by the Ministry of HRD, India.
  2. The minimum percentage required in Bachelor’s degree is 50% for General and NC-OBC candidates. For other candidates who fall in the reserved categories, the minimum aggregate percentage required in Bachelor program is 45%.
  3. For candidates who are awarded grades or CGPA, the conversion of grades or CGPA will be according to the process certified by the University or Institute.
  4. Candidates in the final year of the program or awaiting their result can also apply. In such cases, a candidate will have to submit a certificate issued by Principal/Registrar of the College/Institution latest by June 30, 2017. The certificate should state that the candidate has successfully completed the requirements of the course.

Note 1: A recognized university is one which is constituted by an act of the Central or State Legislature. It also includes any university or institute which is established by an act of Parliament or is declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956.

Note 2: In case of Universities which award grades or CGPA, but do not have a procedure for conversion of grades to percentage, the equivalent percentage will be calculated by the given process:

(Candidate’s CGPA/Maximum CGPA)  X 100 = Equivalent Percentage

Post Graduate Programme in Management [PGPM]

Students seeking admission to MBA programmes at IIM-K should apply through official CAT website. The registration fee is INR 1700/- (For General and NC-OBC candidates) and INR 850/- (For SC/ST/ OBC candidates).

For admission to IIM Kozhikode, candidates will have to select the name of program offered at the institutes as per their preference. Along with the preference for program, candidates also have to enter their choice of city for interview.

Performance in CAT 2017 is the only criteria to get admission in IIMs. Each IIM follows a slightly different selection process although CAT score is the basic requirement. Go through the admission policy for the academic session 2017-19:

IIMK adopts a two stage selection process, first stage is applicable to those students who have appeared in CAT test & registered online for IIMK. Second stage proceedings will be performed to identify the suitable candidate for PI. All candidates meeting the requirement listed below, will only be eligible for first stage of shortlisting:

User Facts:

  1. Total number of students to be shortlisted will depend on the batch size.
  2. Percentage of marks obtained in Class X and Class XII would be the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear on the marks sheet or grade sheet, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage or not.
  3. Candidates will be short listed on the basis of performance in CAT test, marks in class Xth/XIIth& bachelor degree & other traits required for management education.
  4. Documents such as marks sheet, experience letter & certificates in support of reservation must be produced at the time of PI.

To understand the whole selection process of IIMK, students have to go through these basic terms used:

  • Index score in CAT:

CAT score is the basic input in order to score admission in IIM K. Students must ensure that they perform well in all sections individually. Marks obtained in all the three sections will be used in calculation of index score (it will carry the weightage of 75%).

  • Index Score in Graduation:

This score will be calculated for those students who have completed their graduation within stipulated time. Those students who have not completed their graduation, their marks will be estimated as certified by the principal/head of the department or director provided the institute certified that those are the latest marks avail by the student.

Those candidates who have cleared CA/ICWAI/CS without having Bachelor’s degree, their intermediate and final level marks (average of two) will be considered as Bachelor’s degree marks. For students with bachelor’s degree, the percentage of marks awarded by the respective Institute/University will be treated as final. If the Institute does not award the percentage of marks, it will be considered on the basis of the marks obtained in all subjects listed in the marks sheet.

If the percentage of marks are not mentioned in the final marks sheet then marks of all years will be considered for further calculation provided it must be certified from the respective institute or university. If any university or board awards only grades not percentage of marks on grade sheet, the candidates should obtain a valid certificate issued by the respective university specifying the equivalent percentage of marks. The original equivalent certificate needs to be submitted at the time of GD/WAT-PI round, if shortlisted.

  • Score calculation for Class X & XII:

The percentage of marks listed in the marks sheet would be the aggregate of marks in all subjects. Authorities will consider all subjects for percentage calculation irrespective of whether the board includes them for calculation or not.

  • Work Experience Criterion:

Previous work experience will give the benefit of maximum 5% marks with respect to the duration of the service as on January 31, 2016. Note: Full time experience on managerial level will only be considered. Project work, training or academic experience will not be considered.

  • Diversity Score Calculation:

In order to satisfy diversity parameter, 5% relaxation for gender diversity & 5% for academic discipline will be granted from the IIM’s authorities. A candidate is entitled to take advantage of any one of the diversity factor. The benefit will be offered to those students who have obtained degree in any of the below listed categories:

User Fact: Students shortlisted for the first stage, have to register on IIMK website in order to fill the personal profile form. Only those students who will complete the form will be considered for subsequent stages of selection.

Second Stage of Selection in IIMK:

In the second stage of the selection process, students have to appear for GD or WAT followed by PI. The PI will last for half day i.e. morning or afternoon session where the aspirants will be writing a short note & participating in GD on a topic provided by admission authority. Note: The topic will be announced at the venue just before GD/WAT. Final admission will be granted on the basis of factors mentioned below:

Those students will receive the offer letter from IIM K, have to confirm their admission within given time along with acceptance amount of INR 50,000/-. The candidate will have to register on the registration day for the programme and pay the necessary fees to complete the admission process. In case of withdrawal of admission, fee will be refunded after deduction of fixed amount (as per Government norms).


Reservation Policy for IIM Kozhikode PGDM Admissions

As per government regulations, 15%, 7.5% & 27% seats are reserved for SC/ST & OBC-NC categories. 3% seats are reserved for students of DA category (including Low vision, Hearing Impairment & Cerebral Palsy/Loco motor disability).

Note: Extent of disability should be more than 40% to be under DA category.

Scholarship & Financial Assistance for IIM Kozhikode PGPM Admissions:

IIMK Merit scholarships are awarded by the Institute to first and second year students on the basis of their performance during course work.

Central sector scholarship & Merit cum means scholarship are awarded to SC/ST students & minority candidates respectively. In addition to above mentioned scholarships, awards are also offered by NTPC, Sir Ratan Tata Trust, SGGSC, Aditya Birla Group, OPJEMS &Rajarshee Sahu Maharaj Scholarship etc.


Admission to NRI & Foreign Candidates

Those students who are studying or working outside India may be treated under foreign or NRI category. Such candidates have to present a valid certificate stating that the candidate has been resident in that country for a period of not less than 18 months as on December 31, 2016.

Eligibility Criteria for Foreign & NRI Candidates:

The candidate must hold a bachelor degree with 50% marks in aggregate (45% for SC/ST & DA) from a recognized university. Marks obtained in graduation will be calculated on the basis regulations adopted by the university, from where the candidate has completed his degree. In case the candidates are awarded CGPA/Grades instead of marks, it will be converted to marks percentage through: Student’s CGPA/Maximum CGPA*100.

Application Process for Foreign & NRI Candidates:

Completed application should be sent along with the documents required and a bank draft for US$ 100 (as processing fee) drawn in favor of "Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode" so as to reach the Institute latest by February 10, 2016.

Admission Process for Foreign & NRI Candidates:

Candidates who are present in India at the time of CAT test are required to take the test. However the candidates who are not present in India at the time of CAT should produce GMAT score (validity one year). The score should be at least 700. Candidates can also apply through TOEFL score. Candidates need to have a valid passport or travel document. Foreign candidates also need to have a valid passport/travel document. Other admission criterion is same as that for domestic students. Shortlisted candidates have to appear at IIMK for PI round if shortlisted. Foreign/NRI candidates also have to produce three letters of reference the candidates should also produce three letters of recommendation.
