Jadavpur University B.L.I.Sc and M.L.I.Sc Admissions 2018

Jadavpur University offers Library Science courses of B.L.I.Sc., M.L.I.Sc. and M.L.I.Sc. Digital Library. The bachelor’s course and M.L.I.Sc. will be for a duration of 1 year and the M.L.I.Sc. DL course will be for a duration of 2 year. The Application forms will be made available by the University to be filled online on its website from April 4, 2017.

The last date for the submission of all the Application Forms is April 20, 2017 with another day allowed for submission of Application fees.

The courses are offered by the Department of Library and Information Sciences, Faculty of Arts of Jadavpur University. The seat availability is 60, 16 and 15 respectively for the courses.

The admission to B.L.I.Sc. Course is based on academic merit as well as work experience and certificate courses, if applicable. Whereas, the admission to both M.L.I.Sc. and M.L.I.Sc. DL is based equally on marks scored on qualifying exam and the Admission Test. The eligibility criteria involves a minimum of Bachelor’s degree with additional criteria depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

Eligibility

Bachelor of Library and Information Science [B.Lib.I.Sc]

There is a different criteria for candidates with different background:

  • For Deputed Candidates: You should have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with at least one year of experience, as on the last date for submission of your application, as a whole-time salaried employee in a recognized library or information centre.
  • For Candidates with Certificate in Library & Information Science: You should have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with also a Certificate in Library and Information Science with minimum 60% marks (45% for SC/ST and 55% for PD candidates) from any recognized institution.
  • For Other Candidates: You should have an Honours and/or Master's Degree in any subject or equivalent degree with a minimum of 50% marks in any level (no marks barrier for SC/ST/PD candidates) from any recognized institution, with a minimum of 45% marks in the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination.

For all Candidates: All applicants must have completed results of Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree course or equivalent degree from any University/Institute recognized by the UGC and completed result in Certificate in Library & Information Science at the time of application.

Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc] & Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc] (Digital Library)

Eligibility:

  • For Deputed Candidates: You should have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with BLIS degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum of 3 years of experience (as on the date for submission of application) after passing BLIS as a whole-time salaried staff member in a recognized library or information centre.
  • For Other Candidates: You should have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with BLIS degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum of 55% marks in BLIS (41% for SC/ST and 50% for PD).

All applicants must have completed results of Bachelor's and BLIS Degree course or equivalent degree from any University/Institute recognized by the UGC at the time of application.


How To Apply

Bachelor of Library and Information Science [B.Lib.I.Sc] , Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc] & Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc] (Digital Library)

The application process is online beginning from April 4, 2017. The form can be accessed on the University website.

The entire Application process comprises primarily of two steps.

First, you must login and enter your personal and educational information here. If you are not sure about the meaning of any box, place the cursor over that box, and a Tool Tip box will appear. Now to confirm that you have entered your data correctly, click the “Preview” button on the bottom left position of the window. Then click on the "Save" button. If you do not want to register right away, then click on the "Cancel" button to return to the HOME page.

Once you have saved your Application, you will get a unique number (Application No.) and your score on the basis of your academic result. Please note down the Application No, you will need this No. to login to this system in future.

The Second step will involve the Acknowledgement page where you can print your bank challan in either pdf or html version. Now you need to go to any branch of the State Bank of India and pay the Application fee of INR 125 using the challan. Now you have to login to the system using your Application No. and in the Acknowledgement page upload your fees deposition details by clicking Insert Fess Details. You should then submit your Application. Your application process is now complete.


Admission Process

Bachelor of Library and Information Science [B.Lib.I.Sc]

For B.L.I.Sc.: You will be selected on the basis of academic merit, including certificate course and work experience, if applicable. Following score will be given depending on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination:

Experience: You will get 1 mark for every two years of service completed subject to a maximum 5 marks.

Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc] & Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib.I.Sc] (Digital Library)

Selection of candidates in the respective categories will be made in order of merit ascertained on the basis of 50% weightage on the marks secured in the BLIS examination and 50% weightage on the marks secured in the Written Admission Test.


Reservation

The reservation criteria will apply only to those candidates domiciled in the state of West Bengal. It will be based on the policy followed by the state government rules.

Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under PWD. Applicants under PD category will have to appear before an expert committee to be constituted by the University.
