Tata Institute Of Social Sciences BA (Hons.) & Integrated BA - MA Admissions 2018

Tata Institute of Social Sciences has announced notification for TISS BAT 2017 (Bachelor Admission Test) for admission to B.A. (Hons) in Social Work (3 years) (2017-20) and Integrated BA-MA Programme in Social Sciences [B.A. 2017-20 (3 years) & M.A. 2020-22 (2 years)].

The integrated courses are offered from TISS campuses in Guwahati, Hyderabad & Tuljapur and BA (Hons) in Social Work with specialisation in Rural Development is offered at TISS Tuljapur Campus only.

The application form for both BA (Honors) and Integrated BA-MA program can be filled online on the official website. The University conducts entrance test for admission to these programs. Entrance test is conducted in April. The result for the entrance test is declared in May after which the university begins counselling process. 

TISS BACHELOR’S ADMISSION TEST ( TISS-BAT)

A computer based entrance test will be held on May 14, 2017 at designated Test Centres.

2.You cannot change this choice through a phone call or email or in person.

3.The Institute reserves the right to direct you to one of the Centres chosen or to another nearest Centre.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You should have passed 12th Class or Intermediate in any subject stream from a Recognised Board.
  • If you have studied International Baccalaureate Diploma and will be completing 12th class with clear results declared by June 2017 then too you are eligible to apply.
  • If you have appeared for 12th class or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting results, you are eligible to apply.
  • Final pass result should be produced at the time of joining the programme, if selected.

Age limit (as on April 22, 2017):23 years. If you are above this age then you are strictly prohibited from applying.

Bachelor of Arts [BA] + Master of Arts [MA] (Social Science)

Campuses offering the program:Hyderabad, Tuljapur and Guwahati.

Discipline offered:

Social Science.

No. of seats:  60 seats in Hyderabad, 60 seats in Tuljapur and 60 seats in Guwahati campus.

Duration of the program: 5 years(10 semesters)

Students enrolled in the Integrated BA-MA program, have the option to exit the course after BA degree or continue with the MA program offered at the same campus subject to fulfilment of certain criteria.

How To Apply

Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Rural Development) & Bachelor of Arts [BA] + Master of Arts [MA] (Social Science)

STEP 1 Visit the admission portal on the official website and click on the “Apply” button next to BA Programme.

STEP 2 A verification e-mail would be sent to your e-mail id. Check your ‘SPAM’ or ‘JUNK’ folder in case you do not get a mail in your inbox. If you fail to get any mail altogether then please try registering again.

STEP 3 Please follow the instructions and complete your registration process. You will have an option to fill the form and complete the processes entirely at one go or fill partially and save the form for completion before the due date.

Payment of application fees:

Application fee:General candidates – Rs.1025/-

 SC/ST candidates (parental income less than 2.75 lakhs) and OBC candidates (parental income less than 1 lakh) – Rs.275/-

You can choose between two modes of payment namely Cash and Payment gateway.

Payment Gateway (online payment)

Payment gateway pertains to payment made through credit/debit card or online transactions.

Cash (Offline payment)

  • If you choose to pay through cash then deposit the cash amount mentioned on the challan in any branch of State Bank of India.
  • The bank will return two copies of the challan copy (Student Copy and TISS Copy) with the bank’s seal, signature and journal number on it.
  • Candidates have to then scan the 'TISS Copy' of the challan, login back to the online application system and upload it.
  • Please note that in case of payment by cash deposit in an SBI branch, the SBI will charge Rs.50/- as their processing fee, which has to be paid separately, and is not a part of the application fees.]

NOTE:If you are eligible for the concessional fee of Rs.275/- then you would have to upload the caste and income certificate.  

Photograph for Admit Card

Photograph with the following specifications needs to be uploaded.

1.The photograph should be a recent color photograph taken against a plain background.

2.The photograph should show only your face and shoulders.

3.The photograph should not have any other object or person in part or full.

4.The photograph should be a good resolution; clear photograph in png, jpeg format and its size should not exceed 2MB.

Additional Information on application Process:

  • Candidates submitting E-application in multiple numbers will be disqualified.
  • Application fee paid by the candidates will not be refunded if they are found to be not eligible for the programme.
  • Incomplete application forms and forms with inconsistent information will be rejected.
  • Applications received after the due date will not be considered and the application fees paid will also not be refunded.
  • Application fee will not be refunded if the candidate does not appear for the written test or fails to join the programme if admitted.

Admission Process

Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Rural Development) & Bachelor of Arts [BA] + Master of Arts [MA] (Social Science)

Tata Institute of Social Sciences – Bachelor’s Admission Test (TISS – BAT) is the first stage of selection upon clearing which you are shortlisted.

There is an additional second stage of selection process only for Social Work with Specialisation in Rural Development, Tuljapur campus to test your motivation and orientation. The personal interview (PI) is worth 50marks.

For candidates with disabilities:Extra time of 20minutes each for computer based and written test with the arrangement of a scribe to support the appearance of the candidate.

Based upon merit obtained in TISS – BAT and PI selection is done. The details of the TISS - BAT exam are as given below.

Exam Pattern

Total duration:  90 minutes.

Maximum Marks:  100.

The exam would be divided in two parts namely A and B.

Part A – 60 minutes test with multiple choice questions on current affairs, logical and analytical reasoning, social awareness. Part A would be worth 60 marks.

Part B30 minutes test carrying 40 marks. You would be writing two short answers to descriptive questions in English.

NOTE:It is compulsory to attempt both the parts and qualify the same. Both Part A and Part B would have separate cut-off marks for evaluation.


Reservation

Reservation of seats is as per Govt. of India requirements.

  • 15% for Scheduled Castes
  • 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes
  • 27% for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer)
  • 1% for Kashmiri Migrants
  • The 3% for Persons with Disability as per Disability Act (which is 1% each reserved for persons with
  1. Low Vision/Blindness
  2. Hearing Impairment, and
  3. Learning Disability/Cerebral Palsy)
  • 5% for Arm Forces (Supernumerary Quota, respectively)

The TISS Guwahati Campus has been established with support from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER), Govt. of India

The campus is expected to benefit students from the eight States in the region. 66% of the seats will be proportionately distributed amongst the eight North-eastern States (seats allocated to each of the states will follow the reservation norms of that State); and 34% of the seats for students from rest of India (Government of India reservation norms applied to these seats).
