IARI Ph.D. Admissions 2018

The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), more commonly known as Pusa Institute, is located in Delhi, India. The Institute was established in 1905 and is administrated by the ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research).

The University Doctoral Degrees in 26 varied disciplines of Agricultural field. The application for the Doctoral Degrees begins February followed by an Entrance Examination in April.

The students should make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria before applying for the admission. The students are selected on the basis of their academic records, and performance in Entrance Examination and Interview.

University also offers Scholarships to its students. Research Work is mandatory for students pursuing Doctoral courses offered by IARI. Hostel accommodations are also provided to the IARI students.

Eligibility

M.Phil/Ph.D in Agriculture

A student in order to take admission in any of the Doctoral courses offered by the University need to fulfill the following conditions:

  • Candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree under 10+2+4 or 10+2+3 or 10+1+4 system.
  • Candidate must hold a Degree in M.Sc./ M.Sc. (Ag.)/ M.Tech/ M.E. with at least 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ ST/ PC candidates) or an OGPA (Overall Grade Point average) of 7.5 out of 10.0, or 3.75 out of 5.0, or 3.0 out of 4.0, or 2.25 out of 3.0.
  • Candidate should be 21 years old at least at the time of admission.

A student seeking admission under Open Scheme must meet the above eligibility criteria. However, an in-service candidate of Agricultural Universities seeking admission under Faculty Up-gradation Scheme (FUS), in addition to the above requirements, need to be a regular employee of the University. Candidate must also be willing to continue in service after obtaining the Degree. They also need to be sponsored on deputation terms. The status "Sponsored for Admission Under FUS" should be clearly mentioned on the student's application form and the forwarding letter.

Further, a student seeking admission under ICAR in-service Nominee scheme, in addition to the requirements listed above, should be an ICAR employee. Candidate must also have qualified the ICAR Senior Fellowship Examination with or without any Fellowship. The status "Sponsored for Admission Under Reserved Seats for ICAR Employees" should be mentioned on the student's Application form and the forwarding letter.

Furthermore, a student seeking admission under the Departmental Quota should be working in the IARI/ IASRI/ NBPGR/ MRCPB's Scientific or Technical Staff.

Note: Students appearing in their Master's Degree final year examination can also apply for admission. However, they must prove their eligibility before appearing for the Interview.


How to Apply:

M.Phil/Ph.D in Agriculture

Students seeking admission to any of the Doctoral courses offered by the Institute need to fill an application form available online only. The students can apply for admission in only one discipline.

Along with the application form, students need to submit the self-attested copy of the following documents:

  • Class 10th and 12th Mark sheet as a proof of Date of Birth.
  • Master's Degree Certificate along with the Mark sheets.
  • Category certificate, if applicable.
  • Students who are appearing in their Master's Degree final year Examination, need to submit a certificate as at Annexure - VI.
  • Bachelor's Degree certificate along with the Mark sheets.

Once, the application is submitted successfully along with the fee payment, students are expected to appear in the Entrance Examination. Admit Cards for the same could be downloaded as per the schedule.


Selection Procedure:

M.Phil/Ph.D in Agriculture

Students are selected on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR, the Interview, and past academic records. Following is the marks distribution for the same.

  • Academic Records - 10%.
  • Entrance Examination - 80%.
  • Interview - 10%.

The entrance test will comprise of three papers. Paper I will cater to questions from General Agriculture, while Paper II & III will have subject-specific questions.

The students need at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST/ PC students) in order to qualify the Entrance Examination. The ones who qualify the Entrance Examination are called for an Interview.

A merit list is prepared after judging the students in all the three areas. The admission depends on the availability of seats and the student's choice.

A list of selected students is published on the official website of IARI as well as the P.G. School of IARI. The selected students can then download their Selection letter from the website itself. Selected students will be allowed to join IARI, but only after the students are declared medically fit and submit the required documents as well as fees.
