Bachelor of Arts (BA) is an undergraduate degree offered in India.The course is generally offered in Liberal Arts and Humanities Sciences. Course duration is generally three years in most of the colleges, however it depends on college/university. Students who have passed in Intermediate or 10+2 from a recognized board or university are eligible for this course.

Duration of the program

Bachelor of Arts degree is of 3 years duration. Some educational institutes like Symbiosis International University, however, offer BA degree with 4 years duration. Many institutes offer the course in semester system while some still follow the annual system of education. 

Academic Options after Bachelor of Arts

Eligibility Of the Bachelor of Arts [BA]

(10+2) or High School Senior Secondary exam by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any equivalent exam conducted by any State Board or Equivalent. He/She should have secured a minimum 50% Aggregate with English as a subject. All SC/ST candidates have a relaxation of 5% in the minimum aggregate.

How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Arts [BA]

The admission process for Bachelor of Arts program, ideally, starts after the results of the 10+2 examinations are declared. After the results are declared, universities offering BA course invite application from eligible candidates. Soon after the application process, universities release list of cut offs or selected candidates for admission.

Certain universities, like Banaras Hindu University (BHU), also conduct entrance test for admission to Bachelor of Arts Course.

Admission through Sports and ECA quota

Certain colleges and universities also intake students with exceptional performance in extra-curricular activities under the ECA and Sports Quota. Usually 5% seats are reserved under the ECA and Sports quota.

Students applying under the Sports and ECA quota have to go through a 2 step selection process. First you have to fill an application form wherein you need to mark clearly that you are applying under the ECA and Sports quota.

After the application forms are evaluated, such students are called for field and ECA trials. Students are offered admission based on their performance in the field and ECA trials and their prior performance in state and national level competitions. Correspondence Mode of Study

Many universities in India offer Bachelor of Arts course in the distance mode. For admission to Bachelor of Arts course in correspondence mode, a student needs to have cleared all paper sin the higher secondary examination with a minimum of 45% marks. Although Indira Gandhi National University (IGNOU) is the most renowned university for study through distance mode, there are other universities which offer this program in the correspondence mode.
