Bachelor of Education or B. Ed. as it is usually referred to is an undergraduate bachelor degree program offered by many universities/colleges across the country. The course is taken up by students who are interested in teaching. The course is a professional course and their minimum eligibility criterion is that the student must have completed their undergraduate degree course is any discipline.

The duration for the course is for two years as per the new rules. The course is also offered by many open universities and the duration through distance learning is for minimum two years and maximum five years.

What is B. Ed. about?

The course is a skill training based program which is focused on providing all the necessary training to the students so that they are clear about all the aspects of classroom teaching. Eligibility Of the Bachelor of Education [B.Ed]

The minimum eligibility criterion for admission to B. Ed. is that the student must be a graduate in any discipline. The candidate must either have a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) or Bachelor in Commerce (B. Com.) from any recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Also, if the student has completed their postgraduate degree, then minimum 55% marks in aggregate is the criterion. 

How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Education [B.Ed]

The admission to B. Ed. is through the entrance exam conducted by the states and institutions for the intake of students. Generally, the admission test is conducted in the month of May or June and the forms for the admission test are available online.

The syllabus for the entrance test is as follows:

Selection Process:

The selection of the candidates is on the basis of the performance in the entrance exam. Each candidate, in order to take admission in the course, must appear for the entrance exam. For each category and stream, separate lists are issued and during the counseling process the students are granted admission.

Distance Mode Admission:

The minimum duration for B. Ed. through distance mode is for two years; however the maximum duration is of five years. The candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate in the undergraduate program in any discipline or 55% in postgraduate program. Along with this, the candidates should have trained in-service teachers in elementary education Or candidates should have completed a NCTE recognized teacher education program through face-to-face mode.

The selection process is through an entrance exam usually conducted in the month of September every year.
