Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Ancient History is a two-year postgraduate course for those who have a peculiar interest in Ancient History of India.It imparts theoretical knowledge of civilizations, archaeology, arts, literature from the pre-historic period until the thirteenth century A.D. and provides an integrated course incorporating the ideas and antiquities of the medieval period.

The basic eligibility is a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline preferably history or Arts with a minimum of 50% aggregate. The duration of the program is 2 years making up 4 semesters. The tuition fees is around 20,000 INR in government institutions and 50,000 INR in private colleges.

After completing this course, students can work in the field of tourism, law, Administration as Record Managers, Museum Curators, Information Officer etc. Average salaryfor a fresher is 96,000 INR - 1 Lakh INR and can go up to5 lakhs with some years of experience.

At the end of this course, fresher would be able to work in State Department, Archaeological Survey of India, NGOs, law, teaching and become Archivist, Museum Curator, Information Officer, Genealogist or can also apply for teaching posts by clearing NET exam by UGC to become a lecturer in Government institutions.

Eligibility for M.A. in Ancient History in colleges like Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, University of Calcutta, Kolkata,is a Bachelor’s degree in any disciple with minimum of 50% aggregate.However, students from Arts background or history as their main subject are preferred. Maximum age in most of the institutes is fixed as 25 or 26.
