M.Tech in Automobile Engineering (M.Tech AME)is apostgraduate course in designing, manufacturing and operating automobiles. The minimum eligibility for this course requires passing B.E/B.Tech in Automobile/IndustrialProduction/ Manufacturing/ Mechanical/Mechatronics from a recognized university.
M. Tech AME is a two year programand has a similar course name M.Tech Automotive Engineering. The mode of admission is mostly through an EngineeringEntrance Examinations including the different examinations conducted by University/ State or National Joint Entrance Exams.
The average tuition fee for entire course ranges between 1.5 Lakh INR to 3.5 Lakhs INR.
M. Tech AMEgraduates can choose from jobs in theAutomobile, Aeronautical and Automotive sectors.They can work asAutomotive Engineer, Service Maintenance Engineer, Product development manager, corporate sales manager etc. A fresh graduate of this course can expect an annual salary of between 1 Lakh INR – 3 Lakh INR which would only increase with experience in the field.
The duration ofM.Tech AME course is twoyears. Since the course follows a semester system over annual mode, the duration is four semesters.

The eligibility for this requires, passing the higher secondary school certificate (10+2)examination from a recognised school.
The candidate must have graduated with B.E/B.Tech in Automobile/ Industrial Production/ Manufacturing/ Mechanical/Mechatronics from a recognized university.
Minimum percentage of marks required in graduation is generally from 50% to 60%.
Since, most institutions have an Entrance Exam; the students who have appeared in qualifying examination and are awaiting results can apply too.
If the candidate is eligible, they can apply for the course either through Direct Entry (as mentioned in Eligibility) or through Entrance Examination.
Since the Joint Entrance Examinations for Engineering are conducted at University/ State/ National level, it is important to keep a check on the Entrance Exams for Engineering.

GATE: Graduate Aptitude Test Examination is the most common exam, the score of which is accepted by many colleges and universities. For M.Tech Automobile Engineering, there is no such category for GATE. However, students can apply for the same through Mechanical Engineering. The application forms are available in September and the examination is held in January.
VITMEE: Vellore Institute of Technology Masters Entrance Exam forms are available in the month of February and the exam is held in June. Application for the same are available both online and offline.
The entrance examinations have negative marking of 1/4th to 1 mark.
The number of questions ranges from 90 to 150. The time allottedfor the exam is 3 hours.
The selection process varies in two ways from college to college: either by accepting the candidate’s admission solely on the Entrance Examination Score and/or declaring a merit list based on candidate’s performance in Entrance Exam as well as their qualifying score.
This is often followed by a personal interview.
