The Interview

Ques 1: Kindly tell us about your experience in the education industry and what makes it the best industry to work in?

Ans. Just the sheer joy of first formulating the syllabus, keeping it contemporary so that the students get out as ‘industry ready’ and the pleasure of teaching and interacting with a younger generation and passing on the experience one has gained over the last 30 years gives me immense satisfaction.

Ques 2: What are significant challenges that you are facing in bringing out the real vision of the Organization?

Ans. The rigid and sometimes draconian laws of the Education sector, e.g. a post-graduate degree has to be for 2 years…in the west and many other countries you could be a Post Graduate in one year, but in our country, that’s not possible! The Industry also reflects this mindset. So, let us not just blame our bureaucracy and governments, many companies offer better starting salaries to new recruits who have done a two-year course. It’s happened to one of our students, she was offered a lower salary just because ours is a one-year course.

Ques 3: Tell us about some of your experiences and how does your curriculum ensure the best practices of the industry?

Ans. Our courses are designed by industry professionals, taught by industry professionals and we have class assignments and projects on which students are guided by industry professionals. Real-life examples are shared in classes so that the students get a feel of what’s happening in India.

Ques 4: What goals do you have in your mind for CMI?

Ans. To make it the best Marketing, Media, and Communication college in the East and be amongst the top 5 nationally. We will always have limited seats for whichever course we run, to that extent we will always be a bit niche…more like a ‘designer education hub’ rather than a college-college.

Ques 5: There have been talks of CMI having very different plans of delivering educational expertise to every aspirant, kindly elaborate on it more.

Ans. 1. We run various courses meant for different set of students from confidence building courses for school children, to aspiring entrants (graduates) into marketing, media, and communication, to digital marketing and public speaking for working professionals

2. In addition to our flagship Media Management course which has 3 specializations, Integrated Marketing Communication, Broadcast Management, and Digital & Social Media Marketing, we run various courses starting from a six months course on Advertising, to a 3-month course on Anchoring, a 3-month course on digital video editing, a 3-month course on Cinematography, public speaking for working professionals, digital marketing for working professionals…we try and cater to most needs in our core areas-Marketing, Media & Communications.
