Selection process for IIM Raipur 2016-2018

IIM Raipur was established in the year 2010 by government of India, Ministry of Human Resources Development at Raipur, capital of Chhattisgarh. The vision of IIM Raipur is to develop leaders who not only excel in the field of business, industry, banking, commerce but are also socially conscious and would make contribution in the development of our country. Detailed information for this year pattern of selection is given below.

There are 4 stages which IIM Raipur considers for selection of their candidates:

  1. Conducting CAT examination
  2. On the basis of their CAT score Shortlisted candidates would be considered for Personal Appearance process.
  3. The PA process will consist of two more stages:
  • Written Analysis Test (WAT)
  • Personal Interview (PI)
  1. Now the admission list will be prepared on the basis of CAT score, PI, WAT and profile score which is clearly mentioned in the table below.

 

Stage 1: Conducting CAT examination

IIM conducts CAT examination every year in the month of November. The exam pattern is divided into three section Verbal and reading comprehension, Data Interpretation & logical reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.A candidate needs to meet the cut-off of the institute to move to further stage

Stage 2: CAT Percentile

This would be the basis on which candidate would be selected for the Personal Appearance stage.

IIM Raipur comes under category of new IIM’s namely IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Rohtak, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur there is common process of WAT and PI for these IIMs so personal appearance (WAT and PI) for these institutes are held at IIM Kashipur. In case any of the older IIMs namely IIM Ahemdabad, IIM Banglore, IIM Calcuta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM LUcknow decides to share their WAT & PI scores with the new IIMs, the common candidateswho applied for new IIMs, don’t need to appear for WAT and PI process separately, but if old IIMs are not sharing their scores candidates have to apply separately. Candidates will be informed if they are to be considered for new IIMs in due course of time.

 

Stage 3: Personal Appearance

Personal appearance stage will be completed in two parts

1.Written Analyses Test (WAT)

2.Personal Interview

After your WAT is over you will be asked to appear for Personal interview (PI) as per your turn. Some common question you should prepare for are:

  1. Tell me about yourself

    2.  Why do you want to join IIM?

    3.  Are you interested good salary or good job

    4.  What are your hobbies (they might ask you many questions related to your hobby so when you do tell your hobby make sure you know everything about it).

    5.  They might ask you about some terms related to commerce like CSR, FDI, FII etc. or some terms being used in newspapers recently

    6.  They might offer you tea, coffee or a toffee

    7.  They might ask you about your high school marks, graduation marks, why is it fluctuating every semester etc. be ready with an answer.

    8.  After getting an idea of your caliber they might end the conversation. Then you can say thank you and leave politely.

 

Stage 4- CAT score + PI+ WAT + profile

The admission list prepared by the institute will consider CAT score, PI Score, WAT score and Profile score. Criteria is mentioned in first 3 stages the 4th stage will consider Profile score too process of that score is mentioned in this column. After PA process is over the institute prepares an admission list on the basis of CAT score, WAT & PI, Profile score. The profile score would include Academic Profile, Work experience, the weightage of Profile is 38% the distribution of this 38% is mentioned below.

Diversity

 Many IIMs wish to promote diversity and they are doing it by increasing number of girl candidates in their courses and give score to students from different background so that balance could be maintained and for this overall weightage is 12

  1. Female candidates would get 6

 

  1. Candidates belonging to different academic disciplines will get a score of 6 the disciplines are
  • Arts/ Humanities: Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Languages, Liberal arts, Law, Library and Information Science, Mass communication and Journalism, Music, Philosophy, Public administration, Sociology, Social Work, Statistics etc.

 

  • Commerce: Accountancy, Auditing, Banking, Charted Accountancy, Costs and Works Accountancy, etc.

 

  • Science: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Zoology, etc

 

  • Others: Medicine, Pharmacy and Management etc.

Now a merit list will be prepared considering all the factors with these proportion:

CAT percentile (30%)

Personal appearance (32%)

WAT 10%

PI-22%

Profile – 38%

Considering all the factors mentioned above and candidates who have managed to fill all the criteria will receive an offer letter and date of acceptance of letter, date of refund amount etc. will be mentioned in the letter.

To accept the offer candidate will have to send Offer acceptance letter and offer acceptance amount of 50,000/- Rupees. When the candidate registers for the course the amount submitted at the time of acceptance would be adjusted with fees of their 1st semester.

FAQ’s

Q- I got good score in PI and I don’t have work experience would I get selected?

Personal interview has more weightage than work experience so you don’t have to worry if you scored well in your PI or WAT. Maximum scores for work experience is 6 and PI can give you 20.

Q-2 when can we download admit card

Admit card would starts getting issued from 15th October from 1 pm onward. This admit card would be available till the exam date. Take a print out of this admit card as you will be required to show this admit card at the exam center at the time of admission.

Q-3 what if I don’t get enough score to get admission in IIM.

If you think you have scored good marks and still could not get into and IIM you can apply to over 100 good institutes in India which accept Cat score card for admission.

Q-4 I am in my final year of graduation which marks will be considered for my profile score

If you are in the last year of your graduation the marks you have filled at the time of registration would be considered for your profile score or marks from the latest mark sheet you have got.

Q-5 would I get selected if I scored 88 percentile with no reservation?

The percentile would depend upon the institute, if you have scored 88 percentile it is difficult that you get selected for IIM Raipur. But you may easily get to next stage for other IIMs which accept this score. To improve your scores you have to perform well in next stages of selection process.

Q-6 when will the course commence?

The course will get started in june 2016. Candidates who are weak in mathematics or communication or both will be provided with some orientation classes so that they also perform well in class.

Q-7 I want to cancel my admission would I get refund.

If you request for cancellation of your admission before the refund date mentioned in the offer letter than you can get the refund with a deduction of rupees 1000/-. But if you decide to cancel your admission after registering than your amount will be refunded only if another candidate fills your place by the last date of admission. But IIM Raipur will deduct some fees, and hostel rent if you applied for hostel.
