Bachelor of Technology in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (EIE) is a newly introduced branch of engineering, which is a great choice to opt for graduation after passing the higher secondary exam (12th).
In this course, you will get to learn about the designing, developing, installing and managing various equipment used in industries and in our day-to-day lives. Like all other engineering disciplines, it is a four-year undergraduate course, divided into eight semesters.
Today, imagining a world without instruments will be like traversing into a time that goes beyond the Stone Age. The fascination of Man towards instruments and the quest to invent new instruments has pushed mankind beyond barriers to an age where instruments have become the major part of our lives.
It is known to be a multi-disciplinary steam where subjects from various branches such as chemical, mechanical, electrical, electronics and computers are taught. The basic criterion to be eligible for the course is to complete 12th from any recognized board.
This respective course can be pursued in an average total fee of INR 3 Lac to 10 Lac which can vary from University to University. After its completion, a starting salary of INR 3 Lac to 7 Lac annually can be expected.

In order to get admission in most of the Institutes providing the course, eligible candidates are required to appear for a competitive exam. There are several state level and national level engineering entrance tests. Although there are Institutes that provide direct admission on merit based on qualifying examination.
Candidates have to clear the JEE Main to take admission in undergraduate engineering courses in NIT’s and local private and state government colleges whereas the JEE Advance is for admission to IIT’s.
However, there are some reputed Universities like SRM University, VIT University, BITS Pilani, etc. that prefer to conduct their separate entrance examination, such as SRMJEE, VITEEE, BITSAT respectively.

Universities and Institutes that provide direct admission have certain criteria for admission. These institutes either offer admission on the basis of merit in last qualifying exam i.e. 10+2 or there are some seats reserved under management quota, for which the fee structure is generally higher than the others.

There are various colleges in India that offer direct admission to diploma holders in the second year of the respective course. However, some entrance exams are carried out for diploma holders which are known as Lateral Entry Entrance Exams.

Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is a recently introduced branch in the engineering field, that is a combination of both electronics & instrumentations subjects. The course is about the designing, constructing and maintaining the entire instrumentation systems of any industry undertaking.
Apart from studying core subjects such as industrial instrumentation and process control, biomedical instrumentation and robotics, students also deal with software and hardware topics such as a microprocessor and microcontroller-based instrumentation, VLSI and embedded system designs, computer architecture, and organization and computer control of processes.
