ENTRANCE PREVIEWI wrote the CAT 2009 the first computerized CAT exam. I scored 99.94 percentile. Post that I received calls from IIM A,C & L. For IIM A the admission process had two rounds, one an essay writing based on a topic provided on the spot and a personal interview.
FEE STRUCTURE AND FACILITIES
The fee structure is feasible Rs 15 lakhs for the two years. This covers the academic courses and the hostel. However the canteen and mess costs are not covered in this fee structure. All academic material required is provided by the institute case mats, textbooks.
Everyone on campus was placed details available on IIM A website). Close to a 100 companies could be higher had visited the campus with salaries ranging from Rs 10 lakhs to 25 lakhs rough estimates, leaving aside the outliers. The job opportunities are excellent however the academic rigour and preparation required to be placed is as demanding.
The hostel rooms are spartan in their nature. Everyone has a separate room a bed, closet, desk and a chair. The hostel fees are included in the academic fees and it is mandatory for everyone to stay in the hostels. There are roughly 30 dorms on the campus with roughly 20-30 rooms in each dorm.
The alumni network of IIM A is one of the strongest in India. The alumni have branched out into various roles in corporate, social, government and many other sectors of the economy. They contribute to the campus explicitly through funding, internships, guest lectures and also help the students with any help that they might require.
The faculty are amongst the best in India and are highly qualified to teach the particular courses. Due to the case study approach of IIM A the teachers are as much participants in the course. Their enthusiasm and approach towards learning rubs off quite a bit on the students.
The gender ratio is roughly 1 girl for about 10 guys. The diversity on campus was quite low and heavily skewed towards engineers 97 % of students on campus were engineers. In the history of IIM A, there has never been any case regarding gender, ethnicity, race, religion etc. That I have heard of.The extracurricular activities were quite low other than the usual music, dramatics, choreography clubs given the nature of the academic courses.
Exams were quite frequent in the first year as there could be a surprise quiz on any day. Given that there are three semesters in a year and each semester has mid terms and final exams the academic rigour was quite high. In addition the assignments for each course would also ensure that each day was quite hectic.
