I took GATE 2016 examination in mechanical engineering as entrance test and scored AIR 1400. I opted for IIT KGP because of its excellence in research field.
Lot of recruiters have been coming over the years and this number is increasing rapidly. So student who maintains his CGPA above 8 easily gets a job. Placement percentage is about 60 - 65 % with average package of 6.5 lakhs per year. Top recruiters are Mercedes benz, General motors, Tata motors and many more.
Mostly faculties are available in the class hours i.e, 8 am - 6 pm and Students can access them in their cabins. All the faculties in my department are highly qualified and holds Phd and some of them studied in top universities of UK and Europe. Couple of teachers are guest lecturer in MIT.
Semester includes a mid term exam and end term exam along with some class test in a very flexible manner. Program follows comparative marking scheme. If you are attending classes regularly and devoting some time on studies on daily basis, exam is your cup of tea.
COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Course curriculum gives more emphasis on research. It is a two year program in which students go through intensive project work in the second year. There are many electives to choose such as Machine fault diagnostics, Finite element methods, modeling and simulation, continuum mechanics, rotor dynamics etc.
