ENTRANCE PREVIEWFormerly IIT-JEE, now known as JEE-Advanced, is the entrance examination and the only option to get into any of the IITs. I had appeared twice for the exam, securing All-India-Ranks 17249 and 9471 in both the attempts.
IITs offer the maximum and highest placements in India, and IIT Kharagpur ranks 2-4 among all, most of the times. Highest package offered varies from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crores per annum.
The faculty is highly qualified, and as its IIT, it has to be as per the selection procedures. However, their qualification is not of use to the students, except when taking projects under them. About 90% of them are not interested in teaching or don't have teaching skills.
Exams for theory subjects are conducted twice a semester, the mid-semester exam(about 30% weight-age) and the end-semester exam(about 50% weight-age) and the rest 20% are for class tests/assignments/attendance. The exams are scheduled for a fixed period of 9 days, 2 slots a day, so it may be hectic depending upon the number of subjects and the time-table for the particular exam.
Generally, the companies send advertisements regarding internships or entrance exams to acquire the internships. Great companies like Goldman Sachs, Google, etc offer higher stipends even more than Rs. 50,000.
Spring Fest is the annual cultural fest and Kshitij is the techno-management fest. Both are at weekends in January. Spring Fest fetches more participants and crowd, compared to Kshitij.
