Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Admission 2017-18

Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) ia an agricultural university which offers UG, PG and Research courses in its educational module to candidates who satisfy the required eligibility criteria. TNAU offers admission to B.Tech., B.Sc., M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA and Ph.D. programme in at its different campuses situated at Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Mettupalayam and Periyakulam.

Registration to the courses commence in the month of May and ends in June every year. The University conducts an entrance test for admission to PG Courses while admission to UG courses is based on marks scored in 10+2 in the relevant subjects.

After the declaration of results of entrance exam, the university conducts a counseling procedure and the shortlisted candidates are intimated for allotment of seats. The counseling procedure for UG programs will be held at TNAU, Coimbatore campus only. Counseling for NRI candidates is conducted separately by the university. Deserving candidates are awarded scholarships in some of the specializations under Ph.D. programme offered by the university.

TNAU B.Tech. and B.Sc. Admission 2017

TNAU offers admission to B.Tech. (4 years) and B.Sc. (3 years) programme in various specializations for which the registration will begin from May every year. The classification of courses as per the university in different campuses along with subject requirements in 10+2 is as follows:

Admission to B.Sc. and B.Tech. courses is entirely based on merit, no entrance test is conducted. Students with highest scores are shortlisted for admission to TNAU.  Students can apply for these courses by logging on to the official university website. A stipulated application fee of Rs.1000/- must be submitted by the candidates which can be paid online as well as offline. TNAU M.Sc. and M.Tech. Admission 2017

Along with UG coourses, the university offers M.Sc. and M.Tech. programme of 2 years duration in several specializations. Application form for these courses can be obtained from the official website of the university.The table below defines the eligibility required for admission to these courses:

Admission to M.Sc., MBA and M.Tech. programs is done on the basis of entrance test conducted by the university in which General Agriculture (15 marks), Aptitude (10 marks) and Specific subject (75 marks) are the prime sections. The students who are shortlisted are further called for the group discussion round. Last date for submitting applications is July 13, 2017. TNAU Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D Programme 2017

Integrated Ph.D is a four year research degree which incorporates a three year Ph.D thesis with one year of course work. This course work comprising of General research along with the discipline specific research. Scholars have to complete the first three trimesters with CGPA of 8.5 at least. Students, not meeting the minimum CGPA requirement after 5th trimester, will not be permitted to continue their Ph.D priogramme but may be offered a choice of transferring into a Masters programme by maintaining the required credits in the subsequent trimesters. After that, they will be awarded with the M.S degree.


  • Students who have passed a four-year degree program of any state agricultural university are eligible to apply. Students of affiliated colleges of state agricultural Universities alone are only eligible to apply.
  • For Masters & Ph.D programmes, only those students are eligible to apply who have scored 70% marks in aggregate (3 out of 4 & 7 out of 10 in a CGPA system). For SC/ST students, a pass in the qualifying degree is sufficient.

TNAU MBA. M.Sc & M.Tech registration process for Trimester Exam: All newly admitted students have to register themselves for trimester exam. Students of Post Graduate courses should report to the concerned head of the department on the date of registration.

TNAU Ph.D Admission 2017

The university offers admission to research programs as well, in which Ph.D. courses have many specializations. Candidates with required eligibility can apply for Ph.D course by filling up the application form available online upon submitting the stipulated fee of Rs. 1000/- through online mode. The table below shows the minimum eligibility and selection process for Ph.D. programs:

University Entrance Test

Registration for Ph.D. programs will start from July 20, 2017 and end on August 18, 2017 (tentative). SC/ST candidates must pass the qualifying exam to get admission in TNAU Ph.D. programs.

25% seats are reserved for candidates who belong to other states under ICAR quota. Candidates who have 2 years’ experience in Govt. or Private sector can get admission in Ph.D.

Following scholarships are offered to the meritorious students applying for Ph.D. courses:

  • Scholarship offered by Central Government
  • Free education to those students who belongs to non-graduate family under State government scholarship.
  • Scholarships offered by Indian council for Agriculture Research, New Delhi.
  • Adi Dravida Welfare Education
  • Periyar Endowment Scholarship

The University follows the reservation criteria set by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu where some percentage of seats are reserved for the candidates falling under the following categories:

  • The students who will be intimated for counseling need to pay Rs.2000/- to generate the call letter. (Rs.1000 for SC/ST/SCA).
  • Counseling for NRI and Industry Sponsorship quota will take place in the month of July 2017. Admissions for UG courses will close on August 31, 2017 (tentative)
  • The final round of selection to courses offered by TNAU is personal interview, conducted for PG as well as Ph.D. programs in which the candidates are judged on Communication Skills as well as Experience and Subject Related knowledge
  • All the necessary documents like ID proof, address proof, graduation certificate or passing certificate should be carried by the students at the time of counseling as well as interview.

TNAU Distance Courses Admission 2017

TNAU offers B.F.Tech & M.F.Tech, MBA & M.Sc courses under the Directorate of Distance & Open Learning (DDOL), TNAU. This department offers distance programmes through correspondence mode. In order to interact with the students, DODL conducts the Personal Contact programmes (PCPs). Minimum 60% attendance is required in PCPs to take the final examination of DODL. Self-instructional manual is provided by distance centre after receipt of the fees.
