It is known as the largest residential institute of Asia. Over 30,000 students from all over India and 65 foreign countries are enrolled in various faculties of the university. The university has 76 hostels which having nearly 15000 inmates along with all the modern amenities including the internet for the students of various disciplines. I am not happy with hostel facility. B.Tech people are provide in sharing basis of 3 in a room. The room are very small. Once you keep three bed and two table there is no place to stand in the room. M.Tech and PhD have to share two in a room. The mess quality is very poor. I will rate 4 out of 10. Hostel facility as not as per IITs standard. If you will go to other IITs like Kanpur and Bombay, you will amazed to see the facility provided in hostel, mess and canteens. You can get PG's in 500 meter distance in 4000 per person, but I will not suggest because there is so much powercut outside campus.
Hostel rooms are not up to the mark. In room of 2, 3 students are residing and the LAN (internet) conditions are severe. You will see "chuna" in the rooms. Mess food is nice and it is praised time to time by students of other IITs too during college festivals.
The hostel facility was the best it could be. It was Rs. 60/- component of fee for the hostel annually. Each hostel was maintained by at least 10 gardeners. The hostel rooms were shared by 2 students in the first year, but second year onwards every students had single room.
Hostels are good with two boys in one room and exceptional mess facilities good food and better sanitation and hygiene cost is very less 5000 or so but it needs to be admitted facilities of home are given further it is planned to have wifi on every building of hostel now every thing idms set for installing one wifi for each 8 student there would be no fees for that moreover new buildings re being created.
Hostel Facilities were good. Two badminton court inside hostel. Timing for entry and exit are flexible. Girls are also allowed inside boys hostel and vice - versa. Mess food was okay.
Facilities are improving yoy at my time, 2 students/room having sufficient furniture, Electrical ports, fan etc. In rooms and apart from that every hostel was having toilet density of 1 toilet/5 students and all 4 food mess were serving around 200 students easily.
We had one the biggest hostels in any colleges in India, imagine a hostel with 200-300 rooms. it was just like a family other than home. I lived in 3 different hostels in which for 1st 2 years i was living in a 2 sharing room and later on single occupancy. Mess food was pretty decent compared to other IITs and it also had provision for south indian food.
The hostel fee was included in semester fee and it was something like 200 or 300 rupees per semester. We had to share our room with one more guy which was never an issue because usually we all used to hangout together.
Hostels are good and toilets are also good in new hostels . and 3 students reside together in new hostels and in old ones only 2 studenta reside together. There are 12 boys hostels and 4 girls hostels in iitbhu. As girls are very less in iit. Yaa if we had to be in pg then obvioisly we cant offord that because titap expenditure of pg only comes 1 lakh in one year. And mess food in good as only 12000 is being paid by us so food that is provided is good.
Hostel and Mess facilities are not good but this is the part where students grow as Men/Women from a boy/girl. Atmosphere inside hostel teaches you to adjust and face difficulties. It is necessary to make friends to survive, you social skills will develop alot here. Initially students feel that these facilities sucks but soon they realize that this is great and after college those moments are the most nostalgic ones. I gives you great learnings for which you will appreciated for rest of your life.
