Hostel facilities are decent. You get rooms depending on which Hostel you are in.For initial 1-2 year in b.tech you will have to share rooms.Once you are in 4th or final year there is option to get single room.Mess is totally privatised and food are good enough. We get food of different cusine .We get to decide our own menu in the meeting which are held in the common room in the hostel.
In IIT Kharagpur, hostels are generally known as "Halls of Residence"; and students residing in these halls are called as "Boarders". You will be allocated to one of the halls of residence. I am putting facilities in little organized, short manner. In Room of any hall: - High Speed LAN ports (at least 1 port per boarder) (Max. download speed 10 MB per second) - High Speed Common WiFi (Normal speed is around 1/5th of normal LAN speed) - An Iron Bed with wooden/iron base. - A chair (if not available in your room, you can ask hall manager/council member for the same) - A table with wooden base and iron supports. - Fans, lights and adequate electricity ports. (24 x 7 Electricity Supply...
Hostel facilities are very good here.We have 24 hours of water supply, internet supply as well as no power cut any time. This is the best condition to study and do research. Our hostel rooms are single-seated with well furnished items. The students who are staying in quarters are also having good facilities. Those who are living outside the campus, are getting homes at cheaper prices.
Our Hostel facilities are quite good compare to other collages. but if we compare to our fee it is quite be not good. As far as we talk about mess food quality standard is good but food is not like as we wanted. Hostels are sharing upto 3rd year after that single rooms are allotted.
Hall facilities are good though. and this depends on which hall you get. but, generally, one gets 3 bedded room in 1st year and second year. and single rooms in next years forever..mess!! mess is really messy. the food is not up to mark. u wont get good food in mess. though there are canteens and restaurants but they are a bit expensive. But, one can live.
Hostels rooms are not actually up to the mark they actually old buildings of 1950's but about the mess food I can say that it really delicious and good to have the average rents for the hostel is about 17000 for annual and the mess charges are also good it is about 24000 annually.
Hostel facilities are awesome. We are provided with single rooms, double bed rooms or rooms which accomodate three students. 24x7 supply of unlimited internet is a delight. The amount of information and contents available on LAN is great. However, the food quality is not at par with our expectations. Other than that describing our hostel life in one word- Awesome.
4.5 would not give a 5 for it is certainly not the most perfect thing I found. But certainly its better than any hostel I have been in since my childhood. Food is good. Hostels are even good certainly the figure is coherent with the standard of the college.
The hostels are two types. One are the old hostels and other being the new hostels. The culture at IIT KGP is the Hall culture where you complete with other halls throughout the year. Old hostels have a decent facility and new hostels are pretty good. The fun lies in Old hostels.
This is the only area i would say in which IITs lag is this, the mess food is way below par than what we expect and that is one major drawback but that is expected as they collect from us very less money for mess food and hostels( way less than other institutions) but it isn't way bad so that it isn't edible, when we consider the position of many others who are struggling to get food our position is far better, it a way teaches us the value of food and money, again for the hostels they aren't world class but they are manageable, again teaching us to be happy with what we have.
