Established in September 1887, University of Allahabad is a public university and the fourth oldest in India located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The University provides admission to various professional and non-professional courses, research and training programs.

University of Allahabad has a dynamic Law Department which offers Undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) as well as doctoral courses to students every year. It offers BA.LLB, LL.B, LL.M, D.Phil. and LL.D degrees under the department of Law.

Students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Law (LL.B) or Integrated BA.LLB programme must have a graduation degree, along with scores in LAT. For BA+LLB admission, students must have passed 10+2 with scores in LFAT.

Law courses are offered at only two constituent colleges of Allahabad University, namely, Chaudhary Mahadeo Prasad Degree College (CMP Degree College) & at Allahabad Degree College. 

Candidates can register for admission by filling and submitting the online application form, starting from the first week of April to the first week of May every year.

Allahabad University LLB Eligibility Criteria

B.A. LL.B (Hons.)

  • Students who have passed an examination in 10+2 or 11+1 course of schooling recognized by the Academic Council of the University or possess academic qualifications which are considered equivalent to 10+2 or 11+1 courses by the Bar Council of India.
  • Candidates who have secured 45% marks (42% for OBC and 40% for ST/SC) in the qualifying examinations.


  • Any applicant who has graduated in a discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State legislature or an equivalent.
  • The applicant who has obtained 10+2 or graduation or post graduation through the open university system directly without having any prior qualification for prosecuting such studies is not eligible for admission in the law courses.

Foreign Nationals: Non-Resident Indians (citizen of India domiciled abroad) who have graduated from a foreign University, shall not be required to appear in the Admission Test.

Allahabad University LLB Admission Process

Admission to the B.A.LL.B course will be done through an Entrance Test held at All India Level by the University as per the norms and guidelines set by the Bar Council of India by its rules and regulations.

  • The test shall be of a duration of Two hours and will comprise of three sections of 100 marks each.
  • Admissions will be granted strictly in order of merit determined on the basis of the computed Test Score of the applicant. 
  • All the Law aspirants belonging to General Category are required to attain a minimum of 30% (27% for OBC category) marks to qualify and to get admission. 
  • However, there is no qualifying mark for SC/ST, PH, and EW/TW category students.

Allahabad University LLB Entrance Syllabus

For the Three year-long LL.B course, the candidates must appear for the Law Admission Test.

(LAT) comprising 150 questions of 300 marks. Each correct answer carries 2 marks.

The paper is divided into three sections each carrying 100 marks:

  • Part I: Language Comprehension
    • Hindi: 25 questions
    • English: 25 questions 
  • Part II: General Awareness & Current Affairs consisting of 50 questions 
  • Part III: Reasoning, Mental Ability and Legal Aptitude 
    • Reasoning and Mental Ability: 25 questions 
    • Legal Aptitude: 25 questions

Allahabad University LLB Selection Process

The minimum score required by the candidates to qualify the admission test is as follows.

  • General Category - 30% & OBC category – 27%
  • However, there is no qualifying mark for SC/ST, PH, and EW/TW category students.
  • Admission to Allahabad University or a constituent college thereof shall be made by the process of counseling.
  • The candidates shortlisted in LAT will be intimated for the counseling process where they will be submitting the required supporting documents along with the required fee.
  • Students who have passed the eligibility examination for the year 2019-20 a deduction of 5% marks for every gap year from the total marks would be made. The maximum deduction would be 15%.

Allahabad University LLB Admit Card 2020

The candidates must download their Admit Cards one week before the Entrance Test.

Note: The foreign/ NRI candidates/ candidates exempted from appearing in the Law Admission Test should fill the application form through a separate procedure.

Allahabad University LLB Application Process

Candidates can apply for admission in the UG LAW course by registering at

Candidates must log on to the university website and follow the given steps:

  • Candidates should fill the application form online with all the relevant information.
  • Upload the academic documents.
  • Next, the student should submit the application fee through the online payment modes available on the portal.(e-banking/credit card/debit card).
  • Candidates must save the generated registration number and keep a print out of the complete application form.
  • The registered candidates can appear in LAT only after downloading the admit card

All applications for the Test shall be provisional. If the candidate has filled in any wrong information, his admission may be canceled at any stage. 

Documents Required

Candidates whose name is in the Merit or Waiting list must bring the following documents-

  • Admit Card
  • Requisite Fee
  • Required Photographs
  • The original and Self-attested photocopies of marksheets/certificates mentioned in the application form.

Admission shall not be given to the candidates in the absence of any of the required documents.

Allahabad University LLB Reservation Criteria

The University offers 373 seats for LLB & BA.LLB programs. Allahabad University follows the rules and regulations as per the Government of India, UGC and BCI for the reservation of seats. The seats reserved for different categories are tabulated below:

Ques. What are various research activities the Law Department is currently involved in?

Ans. The Department is engaged in various research areas including law relating to Human Rights, Intellectual Property, Environment Law and Cyber Law in addition to the traditional fields of constitution Law and Personal Law.

Ques. Can foreign students appear for the LAT admission test?

Ans. Foreign students are not required to appear for the entrance rather a separate procedure will be notified later on by faculty of Law. There shall be a special process of application and admission for such candidates.

Ques. Does the 5% gap year rule follow for BA.LLB admissions also?

Ans. Yes, in order to benefit students who have passed the eligibility examination in the current year 2019-20 a deduction of 5% marks would be made for every gap year from the obtained marks. The maximum deduction would be 15% depending upon the year of passing out.

Ques. Is there any way to view answer sheets of LLB entrance exams?

Ans. Since LAT & LFAT accept descriptive type answers in a certain section, the candidates can view his/her Answer Sheet within one month of declaration of Results by paying INR 100 at Pravesh Bhawan for the same.

Ques. Is the syllabus the same for LAT & LFAT?

Ans. Yes, the syllabus is more or less on the same lines. Only a few subject additions can be seen in the third section of the paper.

  • Any applicant who has graduated in a discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State legislature or an equivalent.
  • The applicant who has obtained 10+2 or graduation or post graduation through open university system directly without having any prior qualification for prosecuting such studies is not eligible for admission in the law courses.

Thus, if you fulfill the percentage criteria, then, you are eligible for the course.
