Xavier University Ph.D. Admission 2019: Courses, Application Process, Eligibility

Xavier University is a Jesuit Catholic University located in Bhubaneswar, Orissa. Xavier University was established in 2013 and offers a number of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral courses to its students. 

Students are offered courses under six main areas, also known as the schools of the University. These are as follows: The Xavier Institute of Business Management (XIMB), the Xavier School of Sustainability (XSOS), the Xavier School of Commerce (XSC), the Xavier School of Human Resource Management (XaHR), the Xavier School of Rural Management (XSRM), and the Xavier School of Communications (XCOMM).

The University offers various Doctoral (Ph.D.) courses to its students with different specializations. The students seeking admission in such programs need to appear for X-RAT. X-RAT is a Research Aptitude Test conducted by the Xavier University itself. Check Xavier University Admission 2019

Students can also appear in UGC-NET for admissions. Though, UGC-NET qualified students will be exempted from taking X-RAT. The University also offers scholarships to the Doctoral students.

M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

The students seeking admission in any of the Doctoral courses offered by the University must hold a Master's Degree. The Master's degree must be in a related Management/ Communication discipline. Also, the student must hold the degree with not less than 55% marks* from a recognized University/ Institution.

Note: If marks are available on a letter-grade system, then, a minimum cumulative score of 5.5 on a ten-point scale is required to be eligible for admission.

How To Apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

The candidates wishing to appear for UGC NET must apply online at the official website of CBSE. Further, they are to fill all their personal details along with educational qualifications and valid contact details. Scanned images of their photograph and signature are also to be uploaded.

The application submission is completed with the payment of application fees.

Furthermore, the students have to apply for admission in XUB separately by filling an application form available at the official website of the University. Students who have not appeared for the UGC NET also need to fill the same application form. These students will need to appear in X-RAT later.

UGC-NET qualified students will be exempted from taking this test. The test will be followed by an Interview followed by the Selection/ Admission procedure.

Admission Process

Candidates once registered will have to wait for shortlisted students. Students are shortlisted on the basis of their past academic records as well as 'Statement of Purpose' (SOP).

The Statement of Purpose describes as to why a student wants to join the course in question, why does he/she considers himself/herself worthy for admission and what will (s)he does after the completion of the course.

The shortlisted students are further required to appear in Research Aptitude Test (X-RAT) conducted by Xavier University itself. In case, a student is UGC-NET qualified, then (s)he is exempted from appearing in X-RAT.

The students have to appear for an Interview also. Students are finally selected on the basis of their performance in X-RAT/ UGC-NET, Personal Interview, academic records, and SOP.

The selected students are informed about their selection through an e-mail, which is sent to their registered e-mail id. To confirm their admission, students need to pay the required fee. Hostel rooms are allotted to the students as per their need.

The coursework for the students then starts as per the University guidelines, which is generally from July.


  • Partially Sponsored Category: Candidates, if found eligible under this category, become partially sponsored candidates. They get a particular amount of fee waiver as decided by the University. 
  • Full Scholarship Category: Under this category, full scholarship candidates get a full academic fee waiver.
  • Scholarship (Xavier University): Academic fee of the deserving students will be waived and a monthly stipend of Rs.15,000/- will be given for a maximum period of 4 years.
