Mother Teresa Women's University Ph.D. Admissions 2019: Courses, Application Form, Result

Mother Teresa Women’s University (MTWU), is a UGC recognized women’s only university. It offers various undergraduate and post-graduate courses with a reasonable fee structures. MTWU, Kodaikanal offers Ph.D. Programmes in various disciplines.

Mother Teresa Women’s University invites applications for Ph.D. Programme in both part-time and full-time format. If you are interested, you should Pre-Register for the Qualifying Entrance Exam for PhD Programme. The Entrance Exam will consist of a written exam and an interview held on the same day, after which the marks of the two will be added to determine your final score. 

One must hold a master’s degree in the related discipline in order to apply for admission. For Ph.D in education one must have completed M.Ed while for Part-time Ph.D, one must have at least 2 years of teaching or laboratory experience.

Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

  • Only women candidates are eligible to apply
  • You should have passed through 10+2+3+2 / 11+1+3+2 / 10+3+2+2 educational qualification
  • You should have a post-graduate degree in the relevant field with minimum of 55% marks for general category, and 50% marks if you belong to SC/ST category or are physically or visually challenged
  • For Ph.D. in Education, you should have an M.Ed. degree
  • For part-time Ph.D., you should have 2 years of experience in teaching or laboratory (government or private)

How to apply?

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

You can download the application form from the official website of MTWU. You must send them in time to ensure they reach on or before the last date for receipt of filled in Application forms.

Step 1: Download the Application form by going to the University website and by clicking on the “Academic” tab and subsequently selecting “Downloads” from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Fill the form and affix a passport size photograph on the space provided.

Step 3: Attach a DD for Rs.550/- drawn in favour of The Registrar, Mother Teresa Women’s University, payable at Kodaikanal ONLY IN STATE BANK OF INDIA.

Step 4: Attach the other necessary documents along with the Application form:

  1. Attested Photo Copy of Cumulative Mark Statement of PG Degree
  2. Attested Photo Copy of Community Certificate
  3. Attested Photo Copy of Experience Certificate for Two years (continuous)

Admission Process

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

You will be selected on the basis of your performance in the entrance test and interview conducted by the institute. It will also depend on the number of notified vacancies in each discipline. The qualifying entrance examination for Ph.D. Programme consists of 2 steps – first the Written Examination, and then the Interview.

Written Examination:

The Written Examination will have 2 papers having multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 would be common to all candidates and contain 50 questions, whereas Paper 2 would be for Discipline Specialization (different for different disciplines of Ph.D.) containing 100 questions. There is no negative marking. You must take the Examination in both the Question Papers without fail.


After the written examinations, you have to take an interview in the respective departments or officiating departments which will assess you on the basis of your Subject Knowledge, Subject Knowledge and Communication Skills.

The marks from the two will subsequently be adjusted and added, and your selection will be based on that score.

Note: You are exempted from giving the entrance test if you have qualified NET or SET or GATE examinations.

Reservation Criteria

The reservation policy followed by the University is as per the Tamil Nadu Government Reservation Rules.
