Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers a B.Ed program to students based on merits obtained by the students in the entrance exam conducted by the university at different centers established all over India. IGNOU B.Ed admissions are based on certain eligibility criteria whereby a student must hold a Graduate degree in any teaching discipline and also should have a teaching experience or must be an NCTE recognized teacher at an Institute. The course is provided to students in both Hindi and English language. Interested students are required to apply online at the official website by paying an amount of INR 600 as an application fee.

IGNOU B.Ed Course Eligibility

Following are the conditions which are to be fulfilled by the applicant to become eligible for IGNOU B.Ed admission:

  • 50% marks in Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Commerce/ Humanity.
  • If the applicants has a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, the course should be specialized in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks.
  • Trained in-service teachers in elementary education.
  • Candidates with complete NCTE recognized teacher Education program (face-to-face).

IGNOU B.Ed Course admission

Admission to the B.Ed program is entrance-based conducted by the university at different centers all over India. The applicants are required to submit a filled-in application form along with copies of mark sheets as prescribed in the application form. The original documents are to be presented at the time of admission, after the entrance exam. 

The final selection of the students for admission is done after the entrance exam is conducted and on the day of admission, the candidate has all the documents necessary for admission. 

  • The candidate should have scored a good score in the entrance test.
  • The candidate must be eligible for admission.
  • The candidate must have all the documents required.

IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam

IGNOU B.Ed entrance is an online exam based on multiple-choice questions. The exam duration is of 1 hour with no provision of negative marking. The consists of General English Comprehension, Logical & Analytical Reasoning, Educational & General Awareness, etc.

IGNOU B.Ed Admit Card

IGNOU releases the admit card for the entrance a few days before the exam date. The admit card is released on the official website itself. Students are provided with a 9-digit enrollment number to download the admit card. The admit cards are available only for those students who have successfully submitted their IGNOU B.Ed Application form for the entrance exam.

IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam Result

The university releases the B.Ed entrance exam results after 10-15 days of the exam date. The result is announced region-wise on the official website with both the score-cum-rank mark and the total marks obtained by the student. The final selection of the students depends on the successful completion of both eligibility criteria and entrance exam scores.

IGNOU B.Ed Course FAQs

Ques. Is there any relaxation for the reserved category students?

Ans. Students belonging to the SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD category are given a 5% marks relaxation as per the rules of the Central Government. Also, there is a reservation for Kashmiri Migrants and war-widow candidates as per the University Rules.

Ques. Is internship compulsory?

Ans. Yes, the internship part of the program is a compulsory component as it carries a total of 16 credits out of 72 credits of the whole program to pass.

Ques. What is the minimum duration of the experience required for an in-service teacher?

Ans. An in-service trained teacher is a teacher working presently in any recognized school after completion of the NCTE face-to-face teacher education program. There is no minimum duration of this service to be eligible for IGNOU B.Ed admission.

Ques. What is the last date of submitting IGNOU B.Ed assignments?

Ans. The last date of submitting IGNOU assignments for the B.Ed program is the 30th of September of each year.

Ques. Where should I submit the examination form after filling it?

Ans. The examination form is to be submitted online on the official website after filling it.

Hi Kavitha, entrance exam for M.Ed will be conducted on April 29, 2020 (expected). As it is an open university, classes are not conducted on regular basis. However, weekend classes may be scheduled by the university. You are advised to keep a check on official website for latest updates.
