IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), offers Post Graduation Programme in M.Sc under 3 specializations which include an M.Sc in Counseling and Family Therapy, an M.Sc in Food and Nutrition and an M.Sc in Mathematics with Applications in Computer Science by means of “Open Learning and Distance Education”. The duration of the course is two years (minimum) and can extend up to five years (maximum). IGNOU admission to M.Sc program is merit-based. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized University may apply online on the official website with an application fee of INR 400. The application form for July Session will be available in Month of May.

IGNOU M.Sc Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must have a Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate Diploma in a relevant subject. Given below is the course-wise eligibility criteria for the M.Sc program:

IGNOU M.Sc Admission Process

IGNOU will take admission on merit basis.

  • University's admission committee will release the merit list on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination.
  • Shortlisted candidates have to visit the Regional Office/ Study Center with all required documents.
  • Document verification and payment of program fees will confirm admission.

IGNOU M.Sc Application Process

Application form can be filled online as well as offline at IGNOU. For the online application process, the candidates are required to visit the official website and register themselves on the official website along with all the required details. and application fee of INR 400 are required to complete the process.

Steps involved in the online process is as follows: 

  • Step 1: Visit the official website

  • Step 2: Go to the “Register Online” tab and choose “Fresh admission”.

  • Step 3: A new performa will appear on the screen.

Applicants need to register themselves first and the username and password generated will be sent to your mail address. 

  • Step 4: Enter the username and password sent to your mail address to proceed further in the process.

Click on the “Login” button from the homepage. Enter Personal Details, Programme Details, Qualification Details, and Course Details. Upload Scanned Documents. Documents need to be Self Attested.

Required scanned documents

  • Recent Photograph and Signature. (less than 100 KB in size) 
  • Document of Age Proof 
  • Relevant Educational Qualification mark sheet. (less than 400 KB)
  • Copy of Category Certificate, if SC/ ST/ OBC. (less than 400 KB)
  • BPL Certificate, if Below the Poverty Line. (less than 400 KB)

Offline Application Process

  • Visit the nearest regional office.
  • Buy application form along with the prospectus.
  • Fill all the required details.
  • Paste photograph 
  • Pay Application fee through Net Banking/ Credit/ Debit Card/ D.D/ E-Challan.
  • Visit the Official Website www.ignou.ac.in and click on “Pay Online” / Draw Demand Draft in favor of IGNOU Administration for the application fee.
  • Send filled Application form with all Documents and E-Receipt of paid Application Fee/D.D to the Regional Office of IGNOU.

IGNOU M.Sc Course FAQs

Ques. A student who has studied Mathematics as one of the subjects in B.Sc/ BCA/ MCA and has an engineering degree. Is he eligible for M.Sc in Mathematics with Applications in Computer Science (MACS)?

Ans. No, the student is not eligible for the MACS course as the mathematics taught in all the above cases is specialized in a particular purpose and does not include all the topics covered in a Mathematics honor courses. MACS requires honors-level knowledge of Mathematics.

Ques. When should I apply for the MACS?

Ans. M.Sc in Mathematics and Application with Computer Science is available only in the January session. The application process for the same starts by the end of September month of the previous year.

Ques. Do I need to submit the application fee with the form?

Ans. No, you need to pay an amount of INR 400 at the time of registration only. No money is to be paid along with the application form.

Ques. Can I appear for the term-end examination anywhere in India?

Ans. Yes, you may appear at any center across India for the theory exams. Whereas for the practical examinations you need to be present at your registered exam center.

Hi Mousumi, yes, you are eligible for this course. However, admission will be done on the basis of marks scored in intermediate. Total fees for this entire course is INR 33,600. You can check the complete Fee Structure in detail from here. All M.Sc courses being offered in the university are of 2-year duration.
