National Institute of Technology Patna offers Ph.D. programmes in 10 different specializations. For NIT Patna Ph.D. admissions, the basic requirement is a GATE or NET score.
Application forms will be available online on the university’s official website (www.nitp.ac.in). The registrations will begin in mid of April 2020 (Tentative).
Applicants will be eligible for admission to Full-Time/part-time Ph. D. Programme of the Institute and Full-time Ph.D. program under the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme.
The selection process will be based upon criteria like Overall Academic Performance, Written Exam and Interview.

For admission to any of the above-mentioned Ph.D. programs, the candidates must possess the following qualifications:

Admission to the institute is made on the grounds of eligibility and the performance of the candidate in the written exam and the screening process. The admission committee of each department conducts its own screening/selection process.
The candidate has to appear for the admission test and interview separately for each of the disciplines that she/he has applied for.
The written test comprises of 100 questions, in which 6 marks will be awarded for every correct answer and 2 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
Candidates will be considered for the screening process even if the result of their qualifying exam hasn’t been released yet. Such candidates can join the program provisionally.
The candidates' name with application number, will be displayed on the Institute’s website as per admission schedule.
During the interview round, the candidate’s depth of knowledge in domain/research subjects and aptitude for research will be tested.
A merit list will be prepared by the admission committee based on the Selection Interview Marks and the availability of seats.
Cut off marks for admission can not be less than 50% of full marks for Selection Interview.
The candidates are required to bring an original Photo I-Card ( Aadhaar Card, PAN Card) with a photocopy at the time of the Screening Test, where they have to pay INR. 42,950/- as admission fees.

Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme is offered only to those candidates who wish to pursue Ph.D. in Electronics and IT (or related field)
This Scheme provides 25% more fellowship amount than the other PhD Schemes.
The full-time Ph.D aspirants are provided with a Fellowship of ? 31,500 - ? 35,000 per month along with an annual contingency grant.
Part-time Ph.D. candidates receive a one-time incentive of ? 2,50,000/- on successful completion of the Ph.D.
