VELS University B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. Admissions 2020: Eligibility, Courses, Application, Selection

VELS University, Chennai constitutes different schools that offer under-graduate, post-graduate and research courses in diverse streams.

VELS University offers the following programs in pharmaceutical sciences:

  • Bachelors of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)
  • Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm)
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)

For admission to the pharmacy programs, the candidate should have a pass in 10+2 with at least 50% aggregate in physics, chemistry, maths or biology. Selection will be based on his/her performance in VELS Entrance Exam (VEE) conducted by the institute.

Candidates can obtain the application forms through post by sending out a demand draft for INR. 850/- in favor of "The Registrar, Vels University". The application forms can also be downloaded directly from the university website. One can even apply online by submitting the processing fee of INR.800/-

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor of Pharmacy [B.Pharm]

B.Pharm.

Eligibility: Candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Biology/Botany & Zoology according to PCI norms.

B.Pharm. (Practice)

Eligibility: D.Pharmacy holders who are currently working as pharmacists Two Years part-time course.

Master of Pharmacy [M.Pharm] (Pharmaceutics)

Disciplines offered:

  2. M.Pharmacy (Pharmacology)
  3. M.Pharmacy (Pharmacognosy)
  4. M.Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Chemistry)

  7. M.Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Biotechnology)

Eligibility: Candidate must possess a degree in B.Pharmacy from recognized university and PCI. Those appearing for their final semester examination of the qualifying degree in the concerned year of admission are also eligible to apply.

Pharm.D

Eligibility: Candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Biology/Botany & Zoology in accordance with the norms of PCI. Those appearing for their final semester examination of the qualifying degree in the concerned year of admission are also eligible to apply.

Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)

Eligibility: Candidate must have degree in B.Pharmacy from a recognized university and PCI. Those appearing for their final semester examination of the qualifying degree in the concerned year of admission are also eligible to apply.


Application Process

Modes of Application

  • Apply Online through the official website and pay the processing fee via Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking payment modes
  • Download application form and prospectus from the university website and send the duly filled-in applications, along with the processing fee of INR. 1000/- through demand draft (DD), to the following address:

  • Candidate can also obtain the form by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with the DD of INR. 550/- to the above-mentioned address. DD should be drawn in favor of “Registrar, Vels University" payable at Chennai.  
  • A DD for INR.500/- favoring 'Registrar, Vels University" payable at Chennai should be enclosed along with the filled-in Entrance Examination Application Form.
  • In the case of acquiring the application form in person or through the post, the candidate must enclose a DD of INR. 1000/- along with the filled-in applications.

Online Application

The candidates can access the online application through the official website.

  • The candidates must register themselves.
  • Create their Login credentials.
  • Fill in the application form.
  • Mention the educational qualifications.
  • Upload the necessary documents.
  • Pay application fees.
  • Submit the application.

Enclosures:

At the time of admission, the candidate must bring the original and photocopies of the following documents:

  1. 3 Passport Size Photographs of the candidate
  2. Two self-addressed stamped (Rs.10/-) envelope
  3. Mark Sheet of the qualifying examination or equivalent.
  4. Provisional Pass Certificate / Degree Certificate of the qualifying examination.
  5. Transfer Certificate and Conduct Certificate from the Institute last studied.
  6. Community Certificate.
  7. Entrance examination mark sheet.

For Foreign candidates:

Foreign candidates must bring the following documents, original as well as photocopies, at the time of admission:

  1. No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, New Delhi. 
  2. Eligibility Certificate from the respective University
  3. Appropriate Student Visa

M.Phil/Ph.D in Pharmacy

Application form for Ph.D. will be issued by the University office on payment of NR.1200/- or through post by paying an additional amount of INR.100/- ie., a total of INR.1300/- in the form of DD drawn in favor of  “THE REGISTRAR” payable at Chennai.

The duly filled-in application along with all enclosures should be submitted to the University office either in person or through post.


Admission Process

The selection of candidates will be based on the performance of candidates in the VEE and their marks in the qualifying examination.

A rank list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidate’s in the entrance exam. Interviews will be conducted by the respective departments.

The selected candidates must report to the Directors of Schools/Heads of the Department on the specified date and time with all the original certificates.

For Ph.D. in Pharmacy

Candidates have to appear for the Common Entrance Examination (Admission to Ph.D. shall be twice in a year i.e. January and July) and on the basis of performance in the Common Entrance Examination and interview conducted by the school/department concerned, the candidates will be selected for admission.

Candidates have to pay the research and admission fee at the time of selection.


Reservation

  • 22.5% of seats in each program of study are reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.
  • 27.5% of seats are reserved for OBC candidates.
  • 3% of the seats are reserved for qualified differently-abled candidates in all the programs.

Note: Candidates should submit a “Certificate of Disability” issued by a medical authority stating that the candidate has at least a minimum extent of 40% disability. If any of the seats in the reserved category remained unfilled, these vacant seats shall be filled by other category candidates on the basis of merit.


Note

Scholarships offered:

Candidates will be provided with scholarship according to their rank in the Vels entrance examination (VEE).

Hostel Facilities:

For men and women, there are separate hostels within the campus.  

  1. A laundry facility is available on a chargeable basis.
  2. A medical attendant is available.
  3. Mess and canteen facility is available.
  4. Indoor and outdoor games are offered.

Hi Ankusha, admission process for this session has ended for 2019 session. In 2020, it is expected to start in the first week of May, 2019.
