Founded in 1929, Annamalai University is the first private university and one of Asia's largest public residential universities located in India. Annamalai University  is one of the first institutions in the country to offer courses of higher education in science, engineering, humanities, agriculture and arts. A pioneer in imparting quality education, it was taken over by the Tamil Nadu government in 2013 and has emerged as one of the largest public residential university with 10 faculties and 49 departments of study.The university also provides more than 500 courses through distance learning mode.

Faculty of Education offers the following UG & PG programmes to its students every year:

Only candidates with the relevant qualifying degree can register themselves for admission to courses offered by the Faculty of Education. Admission to the B.Ed and M.Ed programmes is done on the basis of candidate’s performance in the qualifying examination degree merit. Eligible candidates can apply for admission to the courses by downloading the application forms available at the university website. Completed applications should be submitted to the university office, along with the processing fee of Rs. 400/- (Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/SCA candidates).

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have undergone 10+2+3 or 11+1+3 pattern of study.
  • Must have cleared qualifying examinations.
  • Engineering and Technology candidates must have undergone 10+2+4 (16) pattern of education.
  • Candidates who have passed the UG or PG Degree in Open University System without qualifying in 11 years SSLC examination  (or) 10+2 pattern of School Education examination shall not be considered for admission.
  • Candidates who possess UG degree in the following courses can apply for admission in their respective field of study-
    • Applied Mathematics
    •  Physics 
    • Geophysics
    • Biophysics and Electronics
    • Biochemistry and Applied Chemistry
    • Biotechnology and Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology
    • Environmental Science and Microbiology
  • The applicants who qualified in PG degree and secured 50% of marks with the same subjects in UG Degree but not fulfilling the minimum percentage of marks required in UG degree as per community/category-wise will be eligible.
  • Engineering/Technology candidates must have specialized in Science and Mathematics with 55% of marks or another equivalent qualification.
    The candidates belonging to SC/SCA/ST categories candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% marks.
  • Applicants who have passed a PG degree in Economics and Commerce without undergoing 10+2+3 or 11+1+3 pattern of education shall not be granted admission.

Admission Process

Selection will be based on the marks secured by the candidates in the qualifying UG/PG degree examinations.

Qualified candidates will be called for counseling based on their rank in the merit list.

  • The percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in major and allied subjects (both in Theory and Practical) in all three years in the UG degree will be taken as the base mark for ranking.
  • Candidates who have qualified in PG degree (5 year Integrated Course) under 10+2+5 or 11+1+5 pattern of study shall be considered for admission.

In the above instance, the candidates should belong to the subject other than Commerce and Economics. Their marks obtained in the first three years of the course alone shall be taken into account for admission to the B.Ed. Degree Course.

Weightage for the highest qualification of the candidate will be ranked as follows:

  • Candidates with PG – 4 marks ( other than Commerce and Economics subject candidates)
  • Candidate with M.Phil. – 5 marks
  • Candidates with Ph.D. – 6 marks

In case, candidates have secured the same marks in the merit list, The following criteria shall be used to determine the order of priority:

  1. Marks scored by the candidates in the Major subjects
  2. Marks scored in Allied-I Subject  
  3. Marks scored in Allied–II Subject
  4. By random method

Counseling will be held at the Administrative Office, Annamalai University, Annamalainagar, Chidambaram. The schedule for the same will be made available on the website. Candidates will be called for counseling in the order of their merit.
Candidates have to pay a Counselling fee of INR 2000/- (1000/- for SC/SCA/ST Candidates) by cash or DD in favor of “The Registrar, Annamalai University” payable at Chennai at the time of counseling. The counseling fee is not refundable.

How to Apply

Candidates can register themselves for the above-mentioned courses by visiting-

  • Click on “Admissions on-campus”.
  • The Admission Portal will open.
  • Register by creating Log-in credentials.
  • Proceed with the application form.
  • Enter personal and academic details.
  • Mention the marks obtained in the qualifying exams.
  • Upload the photograph.
  • Click on “Click to verify the application.
  • Verify the details.
  • Submit the form.
  • Pay the fees either through the online payment mode or through the DD.

The Demand Draft of INR 1000/- (500/- for SC/ST) should be taken in favor of The Registrar, Annamalai University.

Print the application form along with all the annexures and the DD (if applicable), send it through a post to the following address:

Reservation Criteria

Seats will be reserved for candidates belonging to ST/SC/SCA/MBC/DNC//BC/ BCM/OC communities as per rules and regulations of the Government of Tamil Nadu
