Avinashilingam University M.Phil. Admissions 2020: Dates, Eligibility, Admission Process

Avinashlingam University (AVINUTY) offers a full time, one year degree program in Master of Philosophy and a part time M.Phil. Sequential program. The Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) is conferred upon a candidate who succeeds in submitting a thesis on the basis of original and independent research in any particular discipline that makes a contribution to the advancement of knowledge. The field of research offered in M.Phil. Program comprises of five faculties namely, Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education and Business Administration.

Candidates seeking admission should submit their applications on or before 10th of July. Admission to M.Phil. Program is conducted in the month of July every year by Avinashlingam University.

How to apply?

Candidates should submit their applications on or before 10th of July. Admission to M.Phil. Program shall be completed in the month of July every year.

The application form, complete in all respects, should be submitted to the Registrar, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore – 641043, on or before the last date of submission.

Documents to be submitted

The application should be submitted along with the attested Xerox copies of the following certificates:

  • Mark/Grade certificate of the qualifying PG courses
  • Provisional/Degree certificates of the UG and PG courses 11
  • Transfer certificate and conduct certificate (issued by the Institution in which last studied)
  • Community certificate (if BC / MBC / OBC / SC / ST)
  • Service certificate issued by the employer (in case of candidates applying for part-time program, specifying the total duration of the service put in by the candidate)
  • No-objection certificate issued by the Head of the Institution in which the candidate is employed (in case of candidates applying for part-time program)

      Eligibility Criteria

      M.Phil. Program (Regular)

      • Candidates should have completed 10+2+3+2 year’s pattern or 11+1+3+2 year’s pattern of study or any other equivalent stream of study in from a recognized University before being admitted for the respective program.
      • Candidates must have scored minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree program.
      • Candidates with 5.51 in a 10.00 grade point scale under CBCS, are eligible to register for the M.Phil. Degree Program in accordance with area of specialization at Master’s Degree level.
      • Candidates who are qualified for the Master’s Degree prior to 19.09.1991 must have minimum 50% marks. SC/ST candidates are given 5 per cent relaxation from the prescribed minimum marks.

      M.Phil. Sequential Program:

      • A teacher working in this Institute or in any other school / college / University / research and other institutes or recognized office shall be eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and undergo the prescribed course of study in the Institute, provided he/she has passed the Master’s Degree with not less than 55 per cent marks or B+ grade in the same or related subject of this institute or that of any other University / Institute recognized by the Board of Management of this Institute as equivalent thereto.
      • They must have at least two years of continuous experience in teaching / research level at present.

      Selection Process

      An entrance and oral examination is conducted for all the applicants and the performance in these will be taken into account along with the marks scored in the PG program. The written test will comprise of objective questions for 75 marks and oral test will be for 25 marks. The marks secured in written test and oral examination are added to the marks obtained in the PG degree examinations and the rank list is prepared accordingly.

      Note: Candidates who possess UGC/ CSIR/ JRF will be given priority.

      M.Phil. Regulations

       The course shall cover two consecutive summers starting from April of every academic year to June of the next academic year.

      Attendance is mandatory for 45 days during the 1st summer (April-June) and further 15 days between July to December of the same year.

      Part I Examinations will be held during the following January. Part II Dissertation shall be submitted by the end of next July. An extension of time for submission of dissertation will be granted for a period of 12 months on payment of a penalty of Rs. 450/- per month for the first six months and Rs. 750/- per month for the next six months.

      The regulations governing the full-time M.Phil. Course regarding the courses of study, passing minimum and qualifications of the guide, conducting the M.Phil. Course shall apply also to the part-time course.
