VIT University M.Phil. and Ph.D. Admission 2019: Application Form, Placement, Fees

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) offers admission in research field under Science, Engineering, Technology, and Management & Humanities departments. Students can pursue M. Phil, M.S (By Research) & Ph. D. degree in VIT University schools by fulfilling the desired norms & regulations. Academic performance & marks secured in written test is the only criteria to obtain admission.

Every year notification regarding admission in research programmes has been published in the leading newspapers by the university. With respect to the number of applications received, students will be shortlisted & will be called for the written test followed by interview.

Students can opt for below mentioned categories in Ph. D. programme:

  • Internal Full Time: For those students who want to work on sponsored projects carried out in the institute.
  • Internal Part Time: It would be applicable to staff members of institute.

    Eligibility  Criteria for Ph.D. Programme:

    • Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Business Administration with 60% (CGPA 6.5 on 10 point scale) marks in aggregate.
    • Students must have passed M. Sc. in Relevant engineering stream.
    • Students with M. S by Research degree are also eligible to apply.

    Eligibility Criteria for MS by Research Programme:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology
    • Master’s degree in science/ Computer Applications (with Physics & Mathematics at graduate level) with 60% marks.
    • Students who have obtained degree through associate membership of below mentioned bodies with pass in both parts A & B.

    • Master’s degree in Science with minimum 60% marks.
    • Master’s degree in Humanities/ Social Sciences/Languages with 55% mark

    How to apply for M.Phil & Ph.D. Courses

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Management & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

    • Prescribed application form can be obtained from Admission Officer by sending a Demand Draft of INR 600 drawn in favor of ‘VIT University’ payable at Vellore.
    • All entries made in Application form should be in student’s own hand writing.
    • Name should be in the same way as mentioned in the degree certificates. Changes, made any should be supported by Gazette officer.
    • Latest passport size photograph must be affixed in the space provided in the application form.

    Documents required to be enclosed along with the application form:

    • SSC & HSC certificates & Marks sheet
    • Degree certificates
    • Migration certificate from the school last attended
    • Employment  certificate from present employer ( This document is very important for all categories of students under External Part Time category)
    • Complete application form super scribed with ‘Application to Ph. D./ M. S by research/ M. Phil.’ must be sent to:

    Note: 1. If any student is looking for admission in more than one school then he/she should apply through separate application form.

    2. In case of a student is already employed; his/her application must be confirmed from their employer.

    3. Application without required documents will not be entertained.

    Admission Procedure for M.Phil and Ph.D. Courses

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

    Students who will satisfy the eligibility requirements will receive a call from authorities regarding written test or Interview. Selection will be based strictly on academic performance & performance in written test/Interview. Weightage given to different test aspects is given below:

    • Performance in Bachelor’s degree:  20%
    • Performance in Master’s degree: 20%
    • Performance in Written/Interview: 60%

    Note: 1. Student who will qualify in GATE 2019/ CSIR-UGC NET (has been conducted for Junior & Senior Research Fellowships [JRF-SRF)) would be exempted from written test.

    Final seat will be confirmed only after payment of prescribed fee of INR 600 & verification of certificates. Selected students have to register for Ph. D. programme within one month from the date of admission.

    Hi Subba Reddy, No, There is no relaxation on the written exam on the behalf of clearance GATE Entrance. As per rules of university each n every test is compulsory and its own value, and remarks.
