Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai offers admission to B.Sc., B.Tech. and MBA Programs.

In B.Tech. Program the university offers the following programs for a duration of four years.

  • Naval and Ocean Engineering
  • Marine Engineering

The university offers in Nautical Science and Ship Building & Repair for a duration of 3 years.

Under the discipline of MBA, the institute offers a two-year-long course in the following specializations:

  • MBA (Port & Shipping Management)
  • MBA (International Transportation & Logistics Management)

The admissions will be conducted through the All-India Online Common Entrance Test at its 36 affiliated Institutes.

The application form is available on the university’s website. The applicants must pay INR. 1000/- (INR. 700/- for SC/ST) as registration fees.

Eligibility Criteria

IMU offers B.Sc. in the following courses:

  • Nautical Science
  • Ship Building

Duration: 3 Years


  • The applicant must have cleared 10+2 examinations with 60% Marks in PCM and 50% Marks in English at HSC.
  • In the case of SC/ST candidates, there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.

Selection Process

You will be selected on the basis of the All-India Online Common Entrance Test followed by a round of counseling or GD or PI as per the course applied.

Exam Pattern

?Common Online CET for all UG Programmes (B.Tech and B.Sc.)

  • Number of Questions: 200
  • Type of Questions: MCQs
  • Syllabus: English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

Common Online CET for the MBA

  • Number of Questions: 200
  • Syllabus: Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning

Note: There will no negative marking.


The Entrance Exam will be followed by Online Counseling which will take place in two phases.

Phase 1: IMU-CET qualified Candidates will be provided a portal through which they can select their choice of Program and their preferred Campus. You will have to register on this portal by making Online payment of INR. 10,000/- as Counselling Fee.

Phase 2: Based on the Rank, Social Category and Availability of seats, You will be allotted a seat provisionally based on your preferred options. You must confirm the seat by paying the Programme Fee of INR. 25,000/-

Candidates who confirm their seat will be issued with the Provisional Allotment Letter which has to be produced at the time of verification of original mark sheets and certificates, physical fitness certificate, etc. on the date mentioned in the Letter.

How to apply?

One has to apply online at the University’s website.

Step 1: To access the application form, you must register yourself after carefully reading the instructions.

Step 2: Fill the Application form and upload a Passport size color photograph of size 156cm × 156cm and your scanned signature of size 200×60.

Step 3: After applying, you will get a Unique Reference number.

Step 4: Fill the application form with personal details like mobile number and email id for periodical intimidation. 

Step 5: Fill the academic details and select your choice of exam center.

Step 6: Review all the details.

Step 7: Upload the following documents:

  • Reserved category certificate.
  • Proof of date of birth.
  • 12th class passing certificate. Pursuing candidates needs to provide it during counseling.
  • Provisional degree in case you have passed graduation
  • Other documents, if needed.

Step 8: Pay the fees (INR. 1000/- for General category, INR. 700/- for reserved category) online via the payment gateway.
