Madras University Distance Admission 2019: Admit Card, Dates, Fees

Madras University invites students to join their Distance Learning Programs which are available throughout the year in the Academic Year session (June to May) as well as for Calendar Year session (January to December). Madras University’s UNOM-IDE was come in to existence in the year 1981. The prime motive was to provide value education to those scholars who were unable to secure admission in regular courses offered by the university. Distance education initiative majorly helps those students who were unable to pursue course in regular mode.

University of Madras, Institute of Distance Education (UNOM IDE) at present offers 97 Degree Programs namely; Undergraduate 27, Postgraduate 21, Professional 18, Diploma 21, and Certificate 10. Professional and job oriented programs are now offered in collaboration with the industries.University has 30 spot admission centres & 50 study centres under its IDE.

Bachelor of Library and Information Science [B.Lib.I.Sc]

Duration: 1 Year

Eligibility: Student passed with any Degree Examination are eligible to apply.

Master of Library and Information Science [M.Lib]

Duration: 1 Year

Eligibility:  Students with Bachelor of Library Science / Bachelor of Library and Information Science Degree are eligible to apply.

UG Certificate in Arts & UG Certificate in Computer Applications

Specialization:  Library and Information Science

Duration: 3 months

Application Process

PG Diploma in Management , PG Diploma in Medical & PG Diploma in Computer Applications

  • The students can collect the prospectus and application form from the Institute / Study Centers / Spot Admission Centers / Participatory Institutions / Twinning Program Centers for Rs. 100, or by post by sending a demand draft of Rs. 150 to The Director, IDE., University of Madras, or through the official website for by paying INR 200 through online payment.
  • Detach the Application Form, Computer Coding Sheet, and Address Slip from the prospectus.
  • The Application form must be accompanied by All the Original Certificates and the Registration Fee of Rs.100/- for UG, Rs.150/- for PG, Rs.400 for M.B.A. (Executive), and Rs. 1000 for Professional courses.
  • After filling the form carefully, students have to send the form along with the original certificates mentioned below:
  1. Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the applicant last studied
  2. Statement of Marks of the Qualifying examination
  3. Provisional Pass Certificate / Diploma Certificate
  4. Authenticated translation in English duly attested by a Gazetted Officer, if certificates are in a language other than ENGLISH / TAMIL
  5. Equivalence Certificate” issued by the Association of Indian Universities, for students who studied abroad
  6. One photograph each on  Application Form, Address Slip, and reverse side of the Coding Sheet

Submission of Application Form:

After filling of application form, you need to send it to the study centre/spot admission centre or twining programme centre along with application fee of INR 100 (via challan/Demand Draft). Demand draft should be in the favor of “The Director IDE, University of Madras, Chennai-600 005’

Admission Process

PG Diploma in Management , PG Diploma in Medical & PG Diploma in Computer Applications

  • After submission of application for particular Diploma or PG Diploma course, students will be informed about the admission proceedings with respect to order of their applications.
  • Selection will be performed on two factors namely, first cum first serve basis & merit list in certain cases.

Scholarships Available:

SC/ST students are eligible for reimbursement of fees and annual allowance of Rs. 500 for books.

Visually impaired or otherwise physically challenged candidates can avail themselves of the State Government Scholarship for the Disabled.


  • All the courses of the Institute are offered to the residents of India and also to foreign countries as per the discretion of the authorities
  • Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right and the Institute reserves the right of admission
  • The admission of the defaulters will automatically stand cancelled. They may, however, be readmitted to the same course on payment of  Rs. 500/- subject to approval by the authorities
  • Candidates are not permitted to remit the fees in installments.
