Alagappa University, Kariakudi was instituted in 1985 with the aim to encourage research and development in various branch of learning. The university enjoys an ‘A’ grade by NAAC and has emerged as a center of advance learning in the state of Tamilnadu. In addition of regular degree programs, the university also offers distance programs in over 56 UG and PG programs.

The Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University was established in 1992 with an aim to provide innovative, job-oriented, and socially relevant programs in Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, Education, and IT fields. The University has a total of 218 study centers to provide an all-round guidance to its students enrolled in distance programs. The Distance Education programs are also offered in South-East Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia; and in Middle-East countries, viz., Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, and at Sri Lanka.

As part of its distance education courses, the university offers a distance program in Bachelor of Education. The eligibility for distance B.Ed. remains the same as regular B.Ed., that is, a graduate degree in any discipline and should have relevant teaching experience. Eligibility Criteria

B.Ed

  • Candidate must be a graduate and have completed their education in the  10+2+3 or 11+1+3 pattern of examination in any of the following streams from a recognized University:

Tamil (B.A/B.Litt.,) / English / Mathematics / Physics / Applied Physics / Chemistry / Applied Chemistry / Biochemistry / Zoology / Botany / Microbiology / Biotechnology / Environmental Science / History / Geography / Applied Geography / Computer Science / Computer Application and Information Technology.

  • Candidate, at the time of applying, must also be working as a teacher in a Government recognized school / Private School in Tamil Nadu
  • Candidates who are in-service Teachers in any Government recognized school within Tamil Nadu state and have completed NCTE recognized Teacher Education Programme through face-to-face mode / Trained in-service teacher with D.T.Ed, in any Government recognized school within Tamil Nadu state
  • In case of Economics, Commerce and Home science candidates must have studied the same subjects at UG & PG levels.


How to Apply?

B.Ed

The admission process for Distance B.Ed. program is offline. The admission form can be procured from the University office directly or from one of the 218 approved study centers through the following methods:

  • Prospectus and Application Form for B.Ed. Distance program is available at a cost of Rs.500/-
  • The Prospectus and Application Form can be obtained directly from the Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University, Karaikudi by submitting a crossed Demand Draft obtained from any Nationalized Bank for Rs.500/- drawn in favor of “The Director, DDE, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi.
  • The Prospectus and Application Form can also be obtained by post by sending a  requisition letter to the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University, Karaikudi-630 004 along with a crossed Demand Draft obtained from any Nationalized Bank for Rs.500/- drawn in favor of “The Director, DDE, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi.
  • The application form is also available for download on the official website. The candidate can download and send the filled in application form with a demand draft of 500 INR.
  • A candidate should mention their name, address, Mobile number and the name of the program on the reverse side of the crossed Demand Draft.
  • The filled-in Application form must reach the The Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University, Karaikudi - 630 004.

Direct Admission with the University

Candidates can submit the filled in application form in person from the Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Such candidates will be sent course material directly from the university and will have to attend contact classes and examination at the University campus in Karaikudi itself. Candidates are required to attach certain documents along with their application form. The list of documents is given below:

  • The original degree certificate and a copy of the same attested by a Gazetted officer. (The original certificates will be returned back after verification)
  • Student index card with stamp size photo and signature affixed.

The filled-in application form with the required documents should be sent via registered post before the last date to the following address:

Admission through Study Center

Candidates can also submit the filled-in application form from any of the approved study centers. For such candidates, the study material will be sent through the respective study center and they will have to appear for examination at the study center as well. The documents required for admission through Study centers is given below:

  • The original graduate degree and  a copy of the same attested by a Gazetted Officer. (The Original Certificates will be returned after verification).
  • Student Index Card with a stamp size photo and signature affixed.


Admission Process

B.Ed

Candidate can directly take admission to the B.Ed. program. There is no selection criteria to take admission in programs DDE, Alagappa University. Students who take admission directly through university have to contact the university at Karaikudi for classes and examination while students who take admission through study centres must attend classes arranged by them.
