SASTRA University B.Tech. Admissions 2020: Application Form, Placement, Fees

Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy, known as SASTRA University, is a deemed university which offers undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in various streams such as Engineering, Science, Education, Management and Arts.

SASTRA University has several schools which offer admission to Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.)/ 5-year integrated M.Tech. programme in over 14 disciplines. Students are admitted to B.Tech. programmes/ 5-year integrated M.Tech. programme through the following two ways:

  • First, is through JEE (Mains) score and 10+2 normalized marks (70% of the total seats) and,
  • Second, is through direct entry selection by normalized marks of 10+2 examinations. (30% of the total seats)

Eligible candidates can fill the prescribed application form of the university, make the required payment and appear for the Joint Entrance Examination Mains (JEE Mains) to be conducted in the first week of April. Application form for students who wish to apply through direct entry criterion as well as entrance examination criterion will be the same.

How To Apply

  • Candidates can download the online application form, prospectus etc. from the university website or can obtain it in person from the Office of Admission in the SASTRA University campus in Thanjavur
  • Application forms are also available at selected branches of Indian Overseas Bank and City Union Bank, the details for the same can be looked upon at the official website
  • Candidates should duly fill-in the application form with the relevant details, upload a recent passport size image and digital signature with the size limits as permitted by the university
  • Candidates should also pay the registration fee of INR 650 through online credit/ debit card payment modes. The fee can also be submitted through demand draft (DD) favouring SASTRA at the Office of Admission in Thanjavur

After the candidate has been selected, he/she must bring the following documents at the counselling session:

  • 10+2 Marksheet
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Conduct Certificate from the head of institution where last studied
  • Migration Certificate ( if applicable )
  • Score Card of Entrance Examination
  • Recent coloured passport sized photographs

Also, the following original documents must be submitted at the time of admission:

  • 10+2 Certificate of examination
  • 10+2 Marksheet
  • Migration Certificate
  • Provisional Certificate
  • Score card of Entrance Examination

Eligibility Criteria

For admissions to the B.Tech./ Integrated M.Tech. programmes, one should qualify the following criteria:

  • The candidates should have passed 10+2 or its equivalent from a recognized state or central board of education with mathematics and physics as mandatory subjects along with either Chemistry, Bio-Tehcnology, Biology, computer science with a minimum of 60% aggregate in these subjects  
  • The candidate should not be more than 18 years of age as on July 1

For lateral entry in the B.Tech. programmes, one should qualify the following criteria:

  • Student who have completed one year diploma in engineering / technology conducted by a recognized board of management are eligible for Lateral admissions considering he/she is satisfying the conditions of aggregate percentage and age limits as prescribed by the university
  • Under Lateral Entry scheme, candidate should be more than 20 years as on 1 July 2019

Reservation Criteria

To make a level field by offering admissions to students of different states and districts, following is the reservation pattern followed by the university:

  • Of the total seats, 20% (10%+10% from both the admission processes) are reserved for students who have completed their 10 and 10+2 education from Trichy and Thanjavur districts
  • 50% of the seats will be given to the students who completed their 10 and 10+2 within Tamil Nadu
  • Remaining 30% seats will be offered to students who completed their 10+2 from outside of Tamil Nadu

Admission Process

Of the total available seats in the B.Tech. programme, 70% will be filled by the students who appear for JEE (Mains). Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of entrance examination marks and the performance of the candidate in 10+2 qualifying examination as per the following weightage:

Admission to remaining 30% seats will be done through direct entry scheme on the basis of 10+2 normalized marks. A list will be generated by the university by normalizing the +2 marks of the candidates and will be invited for counselling session.

Note: A student if admitted through first criterion of selection by entrance can also sit for counselling session of the students who got selected through direct entry scheme if he/she wishes to change the branch of study

The admissions for SASTRA University are already accomplished. The rank list has been declared as well for 2020 admissions.
