Anna University is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. It was accredited with a five-star status by the UGC in 2012. The main university campus is located in Guindy, Chennai. Anna University offers 29 undergraduate, 90 postgraduate courses in various disciplines.

Anna University conducts the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) exam for the admissions to the PG programmes including M.E/M. Tech. in the various colleges of Tamil Nadu. The entrance test will be conducted in February, 2020 . The application process will be conducted online for the year 2020.

Candidates who have cleared the GATE exam in the same year will be exempted from appearing in the TANCET exam. 

Merit list for admission will be prepared based on the marks obtained and rank secured in the TANCET exam or the GATE score.

Anna University M.E/ M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must have a recognised Bachelor’s degree B.E. / B. Tech. with minimum 50% marks (45 % in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidate must have appeared for TANCET exam conducted by Anna University.
  • GATE qualified candidates in Engineering / Technology are exempted from TANCET exam though candidates who have a valid GATE score in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers should appear for TANCET also.

Anna University M.E/ M.Tech Selection Process

Admission to M.E and program of Anna University is conducted on the basis of TANCET Counselling.

  • Candidates having a valid TANCET Score are selected for admission to M. Tech/M.E.
  • Candidates who are GATE qualified can participate directly in the counseling session.
  • The University will prepare a merit list based on the marks secured by the candidate in the entrance exam.
  • Candidates will be called for counseling based on their rank in the merit list.
  • The entrance test will consist of three parts and it will be conducted offline.
  • The test will consist of 100 MCQs. The duration of the test will be 2 hours.
  • For every incorrect answer, 1/3rd marks will be deducted. 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer.

Anna University M.E/ M.Tech Admissions: How to Apply?

To apply for admission in M.Tech/M.E programme at Anna University, the candidates must register for the TANCET exam.

Ques. What is the eligibility criteria to apply for M.Tech?

Ans. The candidate must have secured atleast 50 percent marks (for open category) and 45 percent marks ( for reserved category) and must have either appeared for TANCET or GATE examination.

Ques. How long is the TANCET examination?

Ans. The exam will be for 2 hours and will consist of 100 questions and will be divided into 5 categories. Each correct answer will be given 1 mark and for every wrong answer ⅓ will be deducted.

Ques. Where is the exam conducted?

Ans. The exam is conducted by Anna University on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government and this exam will be held in any of the 15 centers in Tamil Nadu.

Ques. What is the fee of online application registration?

Ans. The fee for online registration is INR 600 for open category and INR 300 for reserved category.

Ques. How to apply for M.Tech/M.E. in Anna University?

Ans. The candidates have to appear for TANCET examination and the admission registration will begin after TANCET result. Candidates who have appeared for GATE examination can also apply directly.

Hi Gunasekar, No it is not mandatory. Candidates who have cleared the GATE exam in the same year will be exempted from appearing in the TANCET exam.

Hi Sheema,  In the M.Tech program, Selection is done on the basis of any one of the following:

  • Candidates having a valid TANCET Score are selected for admission to M. Tech/M.E.
  • If candidates have the required GATE score with qualifying marks for Assistant-ship in the appropriate discipline of engineering, they are admitted to M. Tech./M.E programmes.
  • A limited number of seats are available for the candidates (Sponsored candidates) working in government organizations, government aided learning institutes.
  • The selection of candidates will be through counseling, following the rules of reservation of Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • If two or more candidates achieve same marks in the qualifying examination, preference will be given to those candidates who have passed the all the subjects in pre-final /Semester/ Year and have the higher average percentage of marks up to pre-final/Semester/Year of the qualifying exam.
