Indian Institute of Science (IISc) B.Sc. Admissions 2019: Courses, Entrance Exam, Cut Off

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is widely regarded as India's finest institution in the field of sciences and has been ranked at number 11 and 18 worldwide (and ranked 3rd and 6th in Asia). IISc has made significant contribution to advanced computing, space, and nuclear technologies. 

The notification for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on the [Technology Day] (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year. Selection to the BS program at IISc is done on the basis of marks secured in Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) exam / IIT mains/ IIT advanced/ NEET. Check Out IISc Bangalore Fees

Depending on their performance in national examinations such as KVPY, IITJEE (Main and Advanced), and NEET, students will be able to avail themselves of the standard fellowships offered by agencies such as KVPY and DST-INSPIRE

Eligibility Criteria


BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (BS): The 4year Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme is organized into eight semesters. The final semester is devoted exclusively to a research project.

The following major disciplines are available in the Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth & Environmental Science
  • Materials
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

Eligibility criteria:

  • A pass in +2 level examination with minimum 60% aggregate marks with Physics, Maths and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
  • SC/ST candidates just need to pass (no minimum marks)

How to apply?


STEP 1: Apply online by visiting the official website of IISc.

STEP 2: Complete and submit the application form.

NOTE: The application fee is Rs.500/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs.250/- for SC/ST/PH categories.

Selection Process

  1. (IIT)JEE-Main: Appearing in 2019 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH).
  2. (IIT)JEE-Advanced: Appearing in 2019 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH).
  3. NEET: Appearing in 2019 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH).

The merit list is based on 75% weight-age for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weight-age for the interview marks in the streams SA, SB and SX.

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/Physically-Handicapped (PH) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) candidates: As per Government of India regulations, and following the National List.

KVPY Exam Pattern

  • Paper in 2 parts 1 & 2.
  • Attempt any 3 subjects in part 1.
  • Attempt any 2 subjects in part 2.
  • 3 hours duration.
