Periyar University PG Admissions 2019: Courses, Application Form, Result

Periyar University, Salem came into existence on 17th September 1997, established by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. This UGC recognized university is accredited with B+ Grade by NAAC. It  imparts higher education at three levels, i.e., through its Departments of Study and Research, Periyar Institute of Distance Education (PRIDE) and the affiliated colleges. The established Departments, Centres, Institutes and Chair are contributing their best through academic, research and extension activities. At present, the University has 29 Departments and 5 Centers.

Periyar University invites applications for admission to post-graduate degree programs from candidates, who have completed their graduation in the related field of interest. Candidates appearing for their final term/semester examination may also apply.

Application forms can be downloaded from periyar university’s official website or can also be obtained from the university in person. The PG programs offered by the university have two modes of selection. There is an entrance test for some courses while for the rest the selection is based on marks scored by the candidate in the qualifying degree examination.

Eligibility Criteria

Master of Arts [MA] (Tamil) , Master of Arts [MA] (English) & Master of Arts [MA] (Economics)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must have passed bachelor’s degree examination from any recognized university in the same or related discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate
  • Students appearing for their final year examinations are also eligible to apply

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Applied Geology) , Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics) & Master of Science [M.Sc] (Biotechnology)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must have passed bachelor’s degree examination from any recognized university in the same or related discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
  • Students appearing for their final year examinations are also eligible to apply


Eligibility Criteria:

A pass in any recognized Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration in 10+2+3/4 pattern in any discipline with Mathematics as a course at 10 +2 level or any recognized Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration in 10+2+3 years pattern in any discipline with Mathematics or Statistics as a course.


Eligibility Criteria: -  

  • One must have passed B.Com or B.Com (CA) from any recognized university
  • Any Degree with Financial Accounting and Cost Accounting / Management Accounting as one of the subjects


Eligibility: - One must have passedB.Ed. / B.A., B.Ed. /B.Sc. B.Ed./B.EI.Ed./D.EI.Ed. With an undergraduate degree (with 50% of marks/ For SC/ST Communities 45% Marks).

Application Process

The application form along with the prospectus can be obtained in two different ways, here’s how:

  • It can be downloaded from the official website of the university (Copies of downloaded application form will be accepted, as well)
  • You may obtain it directly from the university

Candidates are advised to go through Periyar University PG Admission Prospectus prior to filling up their application forms. It is also advised to try filling up a Xerox copy of the application form, in order to eradicate any trace of error while filling up the Periyar University PG Application Form.

The form must be complete in all aspects, incomplete applications forms will be summarily rejected without any entertainment. You will need to fill up separate application form in case, applying for more than one course.

You will also need to attach self-attested copies of Mark Sheets of the qualifying degree examination along with the application form. If you completed you qualifying degree or bachelor’s degree from a different university (Other than Periyar University), then you will also need to submit their eligibility certificate, which can be obtained from Periyar University.

Following a list of documents that one needs to submit along with an application form:

  • Self-attested mark sheets of qualifying degree examinations (Bachelor’s degree)
  • Eligibility Certificate (If applicable)
  • Community Certificate (If applicable)
  • A self – addressed stamped envelope (28 x 13 cm) for Rs.10/-

Mode of Payment:

Application fee /Registration fee should be paid only by Demand Draft (DD) or by Challan  and should be dated for any date after the issue of advertisement in favor of The Registrar, Periyar University, Salem-11.

SC/ST candidates are exempted from the payment of the Application/Registration fee for any one of the program. For every additional program applied, the application fee should be paid separately along with a separate application form.

Completely filled-in application forms must be sent to the respective Head of Department, Periyar University, Periyar Palkai Nagar, Salem – 636011.

Selection Process

MA , M.Com & M.Sc

Admission to Master’s degree programs are based on the marks obtained in both the qualifying examinations and the entrance examination. Entrance examination will be conducted by the respective Departments  for each different course which would also intimate the result to the candidates.

Reservation Criteria

Periyar University complies with the reservation criteria laid down by the Governmant of Tamil Nadu and MHRD, Government of India. So, here are a few points to remember by candidates looking to take up admission to PG Programs offered by Periyar University:

  • A total of 15% seats has been on a supernumerary basis for foreign nationals (including NRIs) in all the PG programs
  • Foreign nationals including NRIs with valid Passports and Visas issued by the Government of India and refugees will be considered for admission subject to their eligibility in terms of schooling and qualifying examinations passed
  • Candidates from other states (except SC/ST) will be considered for selection under the General Turn only
  • Communal Roaster system would also taken into consideration, as the university follows reservation criteria laid by the Government of Tamil Nadu
