Periyar University MBA and MCA Admissions 2019: Courses, Application Form, Result

The Government of Tamil Nadu established the Periyar University at Salem on 17th September 1997 under the provisions of the Periyar University Act, 1997. The university is recognized by UGC and is accredited with B+ Grade by NAAC. It  imparts higher education at three levels, i.e., through its Departments of Study and Research, Periyar Institute of Distance Education (PRIDE) and the affiliated colleges. The established Departments, Centres, Institutes and Chair are contributing their best through academic, research and extension activities. At present, the University has 29 Departments and 5 Centers.

Periyar University invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to the MBA and MCA Program offered by the university. One must be graduate to apply for both the courses. Admission to both the programs is through TANCET.

Candidate may choose to apply online or may even apply offline. The application forms can be either be obtained directly from the university or can also be downloaded from the official website of the university.Check Periyar University Admission 2019

Eligibility Criteria


Any graduate with 50% of marks (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) is eligible for admission. The candidates can seek admission through MAT/CAT/TANCET scores, group discussion, personal interview and academic score in UG programme.


Candidates who have secured 50 % marks (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in any one of the following or equivalent degrees are eligible to apply: Bachelor’s degree in any subject with Mathematics at Higher secondary level or bachelor’s degree in any subject with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the allied courses  

Admission to MCA programme in Periyar University is carried out through TANCET.

MCA Lateral Entry

A pass in a recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration in BCA, B.Sc. (Computer Science/Information Technology) with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination.

TANCET Application Process

Candidates have to submit only one application for the Entrance Test for MBA & MCA PG Programmes.

The candidates have to pay a fee of Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for SC/SCA/ST Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu on production of a copy of Permanent Community Certificate) as entrance test fee for any one of the Programmes, either MBA or MCA.

If a candidate desires to appear for more than one programme, for every additional programme, he/she has to pay Rs.500/-(Rs.250/- for SC/ST Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) along with the filled-in application

Registration for Entrance test and Documents required

The candidates can register for the entrance test in any one of the modes given below

a) Registration in Person

Candidates can appear in person at the coordinating centres with the following documents:

  • Copy of X Std. or equivalent mark sheet
  • Copy of XII Std. mark sheet or 3 years Diploma certificate
  • Entrance Test Fee in the form of Cash (or) Demand Draft
  • SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu have to produce a copy of the permanent community certificate (card format) for availing the fee concession

b) Internet Registration

Candidates can register through internet by filling-up the application form, downloading it and send it to "The Secretary, TANCET, Centre for Entrance Examinations, Anna University", Chennai-600025 with the following enclosed:

  • Copy of X Std. or equivalent mark sheet
  • Copy of XII Std. mark sheet or 3 years Diploma certificate
  • Entrance Test Fee in the form of Demand Draft
  • An attested copy of the permanent community certificate (card format) issued by the competent authority of Government of Tamil Nadu (for SC / SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu).

Periyar University Application Process:

Once the candidate has appeared for TANCET, then they will need to apply to the university. The university application process is pretty simple. The application process for Periyar University is pretty much the same as for the TANCET.

The application form along with the prospectus can be obtained in two different ways, here’s how:

  • It can be downloaded from the official website of the university (Copies of downloaded application form will be accepted, as well)
  • You may obtain it directly from the university

Candidates are advised to go through Periyar University  Admission Prospectus prior to filling up their application forms. It is also advised to try filling up a Xerox copy of the application form, in order to eradicate any trace of error while filling up the Periyar University MBA/MCA Application Form.

The form must be complete in all aspects, incomplete applications forms will not accepted. You will need to fill out separate application form for each different course, that you wish to apply for. By saying separate forms, it implies that you will also need to pay application fee for every form separately, in case applying for more than one program.

You will also need to attach self-attested copies of Mark Sheets of the qualifying degree examination along with the application form. If you completed you qualifying degree or bachelor’s degree from a different university (Other than Periyar University), then you will also need to submit their eligibility certificate, which can be obtained from Periyar University.

Following a list of documents that one needs to submit along with an application form:

  • Self-attested mark sheets of qualifying degree examinations (Bachelor’s degree)
  • Eligibility Certificate (If applicable)
  • Community Certificate (If applicable)
  • A self – addressed stamped envelope (28 x 13 cm) for Rs.10/-

Mode of Payment:

Application fee /Registration fee should be paid only by Demand Draft (DD) or by Challan made  in favor of The Registrar, Periyar University, Salem-11.

SC/ST candidates are exempted from the payment of the Application/Registration fee for any one of the program. For every additional program applied, the application fee should be paid separately along with a separate application form.

Completely filled-in application forms must be sent to the respective Head of Department, Periyar University, Periyar Palkai Nagar, Salem – 636011.

Selection Process

Students are selected on the basis of TANCET/MAT/CAT score.

TANCET Exam Pattern

The TANCET Exam includes the questions from following topics for MCA programme:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Analytical Reasoning
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Computer Awareness

TANCET MBA Exam broadly covers the following areas:

  • Analysis of Business Situations
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Quantitative Ability
  • Data Sufficiency
  • English Usage

The exam has a total of 100 questions, each question carries 1 mark. The duration of the exam is 2 hours.

Reservation Criteria

Periyar University complies with the reservation criteria laid down by the Governmant of Tamil Nadu and MHRD, Government of India. So, here are a few points to remember by candidates looking to take up admission to PG Programs offered by Periyar University:

  • A total of 15% seats has been on a supernumerary basis for foreign nationals (including NRIs) in all the PG programs
  • Foreign nationals including NRIs with valid Passports and Visas issued by the Government of India and refugees will be considered for admission subject to their eligibility in terms of schooling and qualifying examinations passed
  • Candidates from other states (except SC/ST) will be considered for selection under the General Turn only
  • Communal Roaster system would also taken into consideration, as the university follows reservation criteria laid by the Government of Tamil Nadu
